Hello!

for once, I'm not releasing the new version after the promized date but BEFORE... I know I said friday but wednesday sounds more fun . So here it is, the public beta version of Messenger Plus! 2.20... it is entirely compatible with Messenger 6, it has new features, new fun stuff, and now, the only thing that is missing is your approval. This beta version needs you and your friends to test it in all the environements possible (Windows, Messenger, ...). The more you test, the better it is. I plan to do the final release in ten days from now and I won't make it if you don't help me.

What's new? just go in the preferences and check by yourself! new personalised status options (like name tags), logging encryption, custom contact names, ... there's a lot so you won't be disapointed. Note however that features like the Custom Name have not been designed to be perfect, only helpful.

Every feature, old andnew, must be tested under Messenger 4, 5 and 6. If you find a bug, please follow this exact procedure:

• Indicate your version of Windows
  
• Indicate your version of Messenger
  
• Indicate the exact time when the error occured
  
• Try to write as much details as possible. about the problem. Also, the best thing to do it to provide a way to reproduce the bug. For example: "open a chat, send two emoticons, send a link, ...".
  
• Zip and join the special debug file that can be found at "C:\MessengerPlus Dump.txt" (very important)
  
• Send the information by email to mplus@patchou.com . Any bug report that is done properly is guaranteed to be read and considered. If you help to solve a bug, your name will be added in the about box of the program.
  
• Please, DO NOT email any suggestion. Don't worry, I have enough ideas to do another 10 years of updates

my auto away message is sending a lot faster than i told it to... i set the repeat to 30 secs and it seems to resend after about 5 secs

You know i never realy thought about thanking you before i tought it was normal, you programming and we ussing it.
But now i catched myself on an addict called plus!.
And for a long time i'm passing it to all my contacts in my list... they all say thank's to me. But they have to do it to you because you were the person who made this happen.
I'm not the kind of person who going to call you a god because you are just a normal person with a great hobby *lifestyle*.
and i really want to say thank ... not just for making it msn6.0 compat.. but for the entire hirstory of plus ... I know the moment people here in holland just said it was a dodgy addon as it was yesterday. and now it has growen to one of the biggest of not the biggest addon for msn.

Patchou, I've only got as far as installing it and I like it already! The best feature Plus has for me is the contact sign-in sounds, they mean I don't have to actually be at my PC to know who's signing in.

Plus is without a doubt the best Messenger addon that's ever been made

oh, never mind, it works, (didn't know it only sends to open convos..) and patchou, why not add a msn plus display pic to peoples msn after installing and an mp2 icon

Think I found a bug:
I turned on the Custom Names Feature,
Renamed 1 of my contacts (that worked fine)
All the other contacts stayed with there own name(fine so far),

But my OWN nickname (I have MYSELF listed as a contact) Turned into the name I had, like, 'a long time' ago.

PS. When was the first msn6beta released? Wasn't that 'a long time' ago?

PPS In the options (of MSN, to change my nick), it reads my CURRENT nick

Just regged @ forum, because I want to be a usefull beta Tester.

Got 3 pc's @ home which have MSN6 installed.... So I could ben a nice tester....

I just discovered a little bug...

The dutch languagepack contains several strings, which are to big to be showed....

So they are cut of.

Where can i complain about the translations?

Several stuff still is in english? Not that i use dutch all the time, but think U should fix that...


Where can i alter the files?

Using MSN6 (english) @ win98SE

(if the language file is easy to change i can do it for U)

When choosing an alternate text for your away status it will apear in the Messenger Main sCreen (with your contacts), thats nice

It wil appear in the blue titlebar of the chat window (nice to)

But it wil not show in the To: banner of the chat window?

Think it is kinda weird, but don't know if this was what u wanted\...

I think that has to do with the M$ servers

Those are pretty fuckedup and sometimes old user names will apear in the contact list...

Well, all seems to work so far..  what you've reported on this thread are limitations, not bugs (and please, report problems in the other forum sections. ).

You're not supposed to have yourself in your contact list... I guess Messenger doesn't send to Messenger Plus! a notification when you change your own name for the item in the list.

That's not even a Messenger problem... that's something you'Re not supposed to do

My only complaint so far:

When I change my status in one MSN exe it changes in both.

Basically, I run MSN 6.0 and Windows Messenger, at the same time, because I am not allowed to use my normal account at work(I can only keep work related contacts on that list, or I get in trouble). Thus I keep that on Windows Messenger on my home computer, and MSN has my normal, non-work list. I can't change my status seperately on the two anymore

Probably not a bug, but more of an annoyance: I only custom name some of my contacts that choose silly names (not all of them), but when its applied the whole contact list gets sorted alphabetically by email address instead of Real Name and Custom Name. It's a little harder to find who you're looking for when I have a large contact list.

I've managed to move the comp out of the kids way, plus they now have their own one to play bobthebuilder.com on, so the sponser thing is installed as well.  Apart from the huge selection of folders it has crested it hasn't changed anything, including my default homepage.

The next obvious thing to ask is, do you want us to update our mirrors with this file or wait until the next release in 10 days?

EDIT:
What plans are there (if any) for adding support for music progs other then Winamp.  I usually use Musicmatch Jukebox for playing, but use Winamp by default if I am on MSN.

Also, is there a way to autochange the users name when they use the [!WAP] tag in their display name?

If you have a custom away message, like instead of (Away) you have something like: (Eating) ... then you signout then sign back in, then your name will be <normal name> then it will still have the {Eating} in the name spot.

It's Great!!!

Especially the Custom Names function. But it would be better if the function organizes contacts by custom names.

I & my friend got some common problem:
1. many action in msn6 will cause hardisk running, I found a solution: close msn6, set MessengerPlus Dump.txt readonly and reopen msn6, then it's all ok.
2. Chinese input method window usually cannot be shown, but it work.
My computer: Win2000SP3 CHT/MSN6.0268 CHT, my friend: Win98/MSN6.0268 CHT
I have another problem is the first login will fail, the second login will success.(3rd/5th... is fail too), and when open OE, msn6 cannot be closed.

Great new functions. I like the Custom Names but it is sometimes confusing because i have more people with the same names So it is right clicking to see if it is the person i mean.

And in conversation windows you see the original nickname (and in the 'nick is typing') I don't know if you can override that one. I hope so..

Now my contactlist is very clean, no people with irritating smilies in their nick or colors, no just plain names

Custom names dont appear in the 'Send An Instant Message' dialog, can this be changed, i really like the custom name feature, i hate it when i have 4 'Chris' inmy list and i dont know which is which, but also i dont remember all there email address.

It would be really good if custom name appear in the Send Instant message box.

Another BIG bug:
I used the Customized Away with a text like 'fixing problem' and i shutdown my pc, rebooted and used a NORMAL away (Just lunchbreak) and he still says 'fixing problem'

Ow and, multi away: You cant press enter in the textbox for the replies, when you do it he closes the window (with other words Enter acts like the OK button)

I hope you can fix this, Patchou!

I had a problem trying to get the WinAMP song title to work but after disabling the MRsoft TitleScroll Plugin for WinAMP it appears to work in a conversation but not in my name! It just appears as (!WAT) in my name... is this meant to happen?

Also, is there going to be any support for Windows Media Player 9 for the song title as I prefer to use this as it has better media library support (and seems to run better on this machine)?

Apart from that it runs great! Cheers for making such a super program!

I have a suggestion for the logging options. I have different contact groups, and it would be handy if those groups could have their own directory?

Patchou, plus is the best! I have 2 computers, 1 with 98se and msn 5, and the other with xp sp1 with msn 6 and windows messenger 4.7 and plus is compatible with them all. I found one bug and posted it in the bug reports section about plus and msn 6. One suggestion though, can you have it so the share button is next to the emoticons on that bar thingiemabob.

Fantastic stuff, I'd been on MSN 6 for a bit and really did miss the plus options.

When using the boss mode (which is what i first downloaded this for [i then got used to the addons and was suddenly hooked]) i find hat it doesn't restore the windows back to where they were before i hit the ctrl-space. Is that just my pc or does that happen to others too?

ALso is there any way past the 5 custom emoticons rule in MSN 6? I spent an age nice getting an image to 9 square (3 X 3) only to see i ca only send 5 at once.

Hi Patchou,

First of all, I do want to say I love MSN Plus!, I always have (actually I waited with downloading MSN 6.0 until it was compatible with MSN Plus!...).

I enjoy the older features and really like the Custom Name's feature, although there is one thing I'd like to see changed.

You know, sometimes, people actually do have something important to say in their names, e.g. 'It's my birthday', or 'my just had a new car' or whatever... But now it is quite hard to get to know someone's real nickname, because you have to specifically look it up.

Perhaps you could adapt your software in such a way, you can see the REAL nickname of someone in the chat window itself (you know, at the top, with the e-mail adres in (brackets) behind it.

I feel that this would greatly improve the new feature.

uninstalling... SLOW SLOW SLOW! 1.3ghz 256ram and still f=cking slows me comp down like hell! it takes around 3 secs to send messages with the new version! and loads the hell out of my hard drive! if u fix i will install. other wise.. no way!

sorry all i was pissed. i love plus! but its died in my   it loads my hard drive up like heck! im running windows xp HOME. IE 6.0. All updates installed. an di have a 1.3ghz Amd duron. 256mb ram. 40gb hard drive. and a 64mb grathics card... i hope the final version does not have this loadup error (when sending messages it takes around 2 seconds to send due to hard drive loadup) its annoying! daz

hi everyone, i think the new messenger plus is great but there is 1 thing missing..... THE SOUNDS. sounds such as "Hello You!" from the last msg plus made it great, is this just me who hasent got them or have you just left them out?

because i use msn for my website contacts etc. i need it to be fast... wonder what the bug is? i wish it didnt have that bug!

when I input korean and then input "." or space or enter...

I have to enter it 2 times to make it work...


for example...when I input a sentence and want to send it to the other person

I should have to press enter only once to send it...

But after I installed messenger plus 2.20...

I have to press enter 2 times to send it to the other person..

(this happens only when I use Korean...it's ok when using english)

Plus seems to work fine on my comp, except when I set my status as AWAY. I tired all the new ones, then went to multiple away, the AWAY box came up twice, i thought it would be normal for "mulitiple away" but then even when i jsut go to AWAY it still comes up twice..ist htis normal?

it used to say 'sign in'

Found a bug (I think) : when you use the multi-away message, you can't put more than 9 messages.. I've tested, put 11 messages, and only 9 messages are sent.

Fine except for the menu 'preferences/personalised status\configuration'. In the top half of the 'personalised status configuration' window the spelling of the word status is 'satus'. Otherwise everything else is fine. This is using Windows XP Home and Windows Messenger 6.0.

But it's a pity that the user preferences are stored in the registry. So when you have to reinstall Windows, all your settings are gone.. it would be easier to store these settings in a file, so it can easily be backed up, i think Or an import/export function in the software itself.

I think that would be very useful, especially if you use multiple msn accounts...

Found a Bug:

After installing this version of Plus I couldn't signin to MSN Messenger 6. I even tried v5 and it didn't work. After I uninstalled plus it worked fine again.

I Have Windows 98 SE with IE 6 and MSN Explorer 8.5 installed. I have noticed that MSN Explorer and Plus will fight over control over messenger in past versions, perhaps that might be causing the problem?

    I'l keep this quick. I am running windows XP home edition and when I installed Messenger plus 2.20 it mucked up my computer. I had to do a system restore for a week ago. After I reinstalled it I got the same error message. The message goes as follows:
I'm sorry. I have lost the bit of paper I wrote the error message on. When it dose it again I will write it down. What happens is that my computer just restarts and says a vital error has occured. Over and over again. Can you please fix this problem.
