What feature do you want? - Printable Version

What feature do you want? by Patchou on September 29th, 2003 at 09:17 pm

Hello,

these days, I have some time to put in a Messenger Plus! update, that's why I'm asking you this question: what feature do you want? if I add somethign new, it's because it will be useful to the average user on a day to day basis (so it excludes things like scripting). I want to improve the software and I'm simply asking you how I should do that .

If you want something, do a reply to this post with a short description of the feature you want. If the same feature is requested several times, I'll create a poll to make it more easy for everyone. Please send the link to this post to all your friends, the future of Messenger Plus! is in sake here . Maybe mess.be could do a poll on its site about this too... anything you want to help me improve Messenger Plus!. I'm at your service .

Thank you for your participation!
Patchou

RE: What feature do you want? by BooGhost on September 29th, 2003 at 09:21 pm

With this 3 features, Plus! would become even MORE PERFECT

-Alphabetical order for custom names (I heard somewhere you could do it, i think)
-POP3 pop-ups (pop-ups for pop mail accounts)
-customizable pop-ups for the "Event Log Window"'s events

RE: What feature do you want? by Mnjul on September 29th, 2003 at 09:39 pm

1. Multi-Format and custom emoticon supported Log and a log viewer (yeah, because Plus!'s log has more than MSN Messenger 6's and it's more read-able.)

2. Group-compatible contact manager: Contact manager can group contacts (using Messenger's group settings of course).

3. Most needed Exporting and Importing Preferences -Added

4. Sorting feature in Event Log Window. Also, divide the user nickname and his/her email address into two columns, instead of single "User" column.

5. Built-in permanent color chooser you have the msn messenger id thing code now, it's not hard to complete it -Added

6. As booghost said, when a popup window of POP3 mail's arrival shows and is clicked by the user, plus! can show a window having a list of the subjects of unread mails and ask if the user wants to open his/her email program or not... And patchou, you don't really have to make a "real" popup toast...simply simulate one Ask ginge how he did it

if u can add a feature that can save the settings without going through regedit, dat would be nice (cuz i think average users are not familier with importing and exporting reg files and all those stuff)

thanx, patchou

RE: What feature do you want? by martin on September 29th, 2003 at 10:05 pm

the use of commands like /nick in the personalized status thing

RE: What feature do you want? by Sk3tch on September 29th, 2003 at 10:05 pm

I think POP3 customizable Pop ups would be exclelent.
If possible the Alphabetic Custom names feature that BooGhost mentioned would be just wonderful.
using /block in auto-away messages lol..
And i think that Exporting and Importing Preferences would be greatly appreciated.
but other then that, Plus is just super

Actually, it was Shmill who discovered how to do that thingie.

Anyway, I vote for POP3 notification pop-ups as well!

And the importer/exporter thingie sounds good, too.....

i forgot this one

I'd like to see POP3 notification pop-ups also.

RE: What feature do you want? by Chrono on September 29th, 2003 at 10:44 pm

u definitely have to fix that problem that doesnt allow plus to save our preferences (as an example, when i use custom names, after i reboot the "real" names are back again )

RE: What feature do you want? by thedarktempler on September 29th, 2003 at 10:56 pm

A feture ive been wanting from any program and it would be great if plus could do it would be docking msn to the side of your screen so you couldnt see it then when you moved your curser to the side of the screen and touched the edge of the screen your contact list would pop out.
this is usfull because you dont have to keep opening you contact list and it dosnt add a window on the task bar like msn does

RE: What feature do you want? by volkl on September 29th, 2003 at 10:57 pm

im not sure if it happens in boss protection mode, but when in instant lock mode, if sum1 adds you the little window saying they have added u still shows up, and is not hidden by the instant lock. perhaps this could be hidden

RE: What feature do you want? by martin on September 29th, 2003 at 11:44 pm

o and also add the timed thing thats in the quick text to the personalized status thing
ex.
leave me alone
#u will be blocked in 5 sec
#5#/block

RE: What feature do you want? by AzNiNsEcT on September 29th, 2003 at 11:46 pm

hmm...perhaps in the contact manager...if the contact manager displayed who you have on ur list that doesnt have you on theirs? or something to do with the "These people have added you to their contact list" list.
and...umm...i still dont know if this has been fixed or mentioned already but how about automessages/personalised status for instant lock?
and how about initialising personal status when status is set to busy/out to lunch etc...instead of just being able to set it when you move ur status to away...hows that?
if any of these requests are implimented, i, and possibly a few hundred more, will be very happy
peace

RE: What feature do you want? by Segosa on September 30th, 2003 at 01:47 am

How about, when you press [TAB] in contact window, it will fill it in with the other persons CUSTOM nickname, exactly like in mIRC, it would be useful, for multiperson convos and other stuff, for example im talking to

TWDman | Winamp v5.0prealphasuperleetness

and his custom nick is "TWDman", and i type "t" in the convo, then press [TAB] and it fills it in with TWDman, but not if you press TAB without anything in of course...

---

How about a status for other people on your contact list, "(Idle)" when someone becomes idle instead of saying (Away) it will say (idle), so i dont have to check event logs all the time to check if someones idle or not

RE: What feature do you want? by dannyres on September 30th, 2003 at 03:23 am

yeah i like Segosa's idea... but maybe make it work with their email and their normal name...

Dan

EDIT: does anyone know how to get that popup thing working with msn messenger 6?

RE: What feature do you want? by Choli on September 30th, 2003 at 03:34 am

I like the features BooGhost and Mnjul suggested, specially: POP3 popups, and a redesign of the event log window. I don't like how it looks like.

- Also if I want to use a comand like /nick or /brb I have to open an IM window and sometimes I have nobody connected, so it would be great to add a text box somewhere where that kind of commands are accepted.

- Have the timed thing (#5#text...) in automessages so you can set differents delays for each part of the automsg.

- Once you said you won't do... but I'd like that the events log windows shows when somebody opens and clo

Thanks Patchou

....Yes!!! thats a great idea

Heres some more requests

  • Add block/unblock group the the context menu of groups.
  • Inproved logging... maybe xml or html or even just a viewer that makes it look nice
  • Different log folders for different users.
  • Add some more functions to the contact manager... like block/unblock etc etc.

And heres my favourite idea:

How about you have something where you can select things to happen when certain actions take place like when John Doe signs in play a sound and send a message saying "hi", or when Jack signs in say "get lost" and block him or when Rachel signs in send her a file. You get the picture .... hope this is possible!

RE: What feature do you want? by scott_5214 on September 30th, 2003 at 05:51 am

I couldn't really think of any, but after reading some other ideas i agree with these ones:

BooGhost - customizable pop-ups for the "Event Log Window"'s events

Mnjul - 3. Exporting and Importing Preferences (very handy if using more than one computer)

thedarktempler - A feture ive been wanting from any program and it would be great if plus could do it would be docking msn to the side of your screen so you couldnt see it then when you moved your curser to the side of the screen and touched the edge of the screen your contact list would pop out.
(this would be really really good, i dont no if it is possible, but i really really like it)

Sorry these arn't proper quotes, but i didn't no how to do more than one quote.

Thankyou Patchou your doing a great job!

RE: What feature do you want? by SteventB on September 30th, 2003 at 08:21 am

Add the Custom emoticons to the Quick icons pannel.

RE: What feature do you want? by riley on September 30th, 2003 at 09:04 am

all great idea's till now but i like Booghost's (customizable pop-ups for the "Event Log Window"'s events) most, great idea

well here are mine:

  1. option to "right click on display picture from your contact and 'Save picture' or 'Save picture as'.. or something that i can easily save displaypictures or/and custom emoticons (now it's only possible with CE.DP.Stealer )

  2. an option to change your display picture in personalised status window when going away (in this way i can choose with my personalised status a fitting display picture)(think of tv, toilet, etc etc)

  3. a plus! school edition like suggested over here

  4. a file organizer like suggested over here

hope to see nice new features in the new plus!, keep up the great work
RE: What feature do you want? by itior on September 30th, 2003 at 09:07 am

In the plugin development pass the e-mail of the contact not their friendlyname as the argument.

RE: What feature do you want? by qune on September 30th, 2003 at 09:10 am

1) POP3 popups when new email is recieved...
2) that long-ago suggestion I made (for plugin though) concerning the possibility to pause and resume file transfers (especially when transferring large files)...

RE: What feature do you want? by |Rolando| on September 30th, 2003 at 09:21 am

WHAT WE NEED IS A /timer COMMAND JUST LIKE IRC!
Imagine the possibilities...

RE: What feature do you want? by TWDman on September 30th, 2003 at 09:27 am

OK

1) Plus without Registry keys, but saving the information in a .ini or .xml file, so we can use Plus! at school, where we are not allowed to add/edit reg-keys

2) POP3 toast for receiving new email

3) Custom names alphabetic displayed

4) That [TAB] -thingie what Segosa said. (Segosa, you took that name a few weeks ago didnt you. ITS OLD!!!)

5) A timer command for IM-window and for Plugins

6) File transfer resume

7) All the other sugestions

RE: What feature do you want? by Bull on September 30th, 2003 at 09:35 am

Hello patchou and all others,

Here is a feature I would find useful…

In MSN6, there is an option to become automatically “busy” when you launch a full-screen application. What could be very useful in msgplus is to:

I select an application (for instance “Counter-strike” --> "hl.exe" for those who know ). Then I select a status (for instance busy). And finally, I can add an auto-message “I am playing at CS…”

Like this, automatically, when I launch counter-strike, my msn will go busy and will send the auto-message.

So in fact, it is adding to msgplus specialised status referring to the full-screen application launched…

Finally, it could be good to have an option to see, even if you are “busy” the popup window when somebody sends you a message.

I am not sure if I am very clear and also if it is technically feasible but please, give me some feedback about these ideas.

Thx
Bull.

POP3 Pop-up notification on new email

Ability to set an auto-away message for each user, rather than one message for everyone

RE: What feature do you want? by eye on September 30th, 2003 at 09:39 am

1-) POP3 pop-ups
2-) sign in as 'appear offline'
3-) Load many MSN Messenger accounts (MSN Polygamy)

RE: What feature do you want? by EvIsU on September 30th, 2003 at 09:39 am

how about adding more colours to the selection wen u press ctrl + k and is there somethin that u can put ur own emotion on ur nickname??

um that's kinda what custom away messages and their shortcuts are for, any more boxes would be likely to fill up the screen

I like the idea of the pop3 email check thing where it shows u the subjects/maybe who it's from? and a button like "go to outlook" or something along those lines.

maybe also the use of tag's in names if it's possible, like:
"wipey // (!WAT)"
would show as something like:
"wipey // nofx - bob"
depending on what song was playing

would kill alot of waiting for winamp nick things
RE: What feature do you want? by kangie on September 30th, 2003 at 09:50 am

i know you can get seperate things (apparently! never found one that WORKS yet!!!!) that do this
but i thought maybe *flutters her eyelids at patchou* you could do like a font colour changer in Plus aswell.... i dunno if thats doable, but it would be a lot better....
wah!
we love you patchu youre the GREATEST lol!

The idea's already noticed, but who have my vote are:

POP3 pop-ups

Ability to set an auto-away message for each user, rather than one message for everyone

Some of my own ideas

- The use of RGB-codes in the Color Manager (so that you can use an original color!)

- A quick-command for the Custom Name (!cn) for instance

- Color-remover from nicknames.

- Nickname 'normaliser' (no text like 'HoW aRe YoU?' but 'How are you?')

- Customname ín conversations (optional)

- Function to disable the users' font and display just 'plain' arial text

- Smilie remover in nicknames

- L33t-language removal in nicknames

- Automatic File 'ignore' function

RE: What feature do you want? by musicalmidget on September 30th, 2003 at 09:58 am

There are a few features I would quite like to see in a future release of Messenger Plus!

One of them is a /log command, which opens up the log file for the conversation taking place in the window the command is typed in.  I think I may have suggested this once before, but last time I checked it wasn't possible.

I also quite like these two ideas aswell:

RE: What feature do you want? by legi on September 30th, 2003 at 10:06 am

[font=Arial][size=2][color=blue]you have to put more sounds at msn plus cause it's really cool

RE: What feature do you want? by wrxguy on September 30th, 2003 at 10:12 am

Another idea that i would like to see is a Plus! icon in the line where it shows if the person has a webcam to let you know if they have plus installed. Is this possible? I think it would be a nice feature!

RE: What feature do you want? by axemaster on September 30th, 2003 at 10:24 am

msn plus is already the best out there... we can only HOPE for more

-Alphabetical order for custom names (I heard somewhere you could do it, i think)
-POP3 pop-ups (pop-ups for pop mail accounts)
-customizable pop-ups for the "Event Log Window"'s events
[booghost]

A feture ive been wanting from any program and it would be great if plus could do it would be docking msn to the side of your screen so you couldnt see it then when you moved your curser to the side of the screen and touched the edge of the screen your contact list would pop out.
this is usfull because you dont have to keep opening you contact list and it dosnt add a window on the task bar like msn does
[thedarktempler]

duno if its possible, but custom emoticons in ur name
[volkl]

Once you said you won't do... but I'd like that the events log windows shows when somebody opens and closes a conversation
(i think an old addon used to do this...)
[choli]

Another idea that i would like to see is a Plus! icon in the line where it shows if the person has a webcam to let you know if they have plus installed. Is this possible? I think it would be a nice feature!
[wrxguy]

well, i couldnt think of anything else myself these are all great suggestions... any ONE would be fantastic!

---------

@eye:
["2-) sign in as 'appear offline'
3-) Load many MSN Messenger accounts (MSN Polygamy)"]

there are already msn plus compatible addons to do this

RE: What feature do you want? by Kings on September 30th, 2003 at 10:27 am

Couldn't be bothered reading through other replies, so excuse me if it's been said already, but my suggestion;

Group all conversations together in one window, by using tabs

RE: What feature do you want? by asephx on September 30th, 2003 at 10:38 am

- Logs saved into different locations using diff versions of MSN and logins

(I use MSN messenger 6.1 for 1 account and Windows Messenger 5 for another, in old MsgPlus versions i was able to set different settings for each MSN i used. eg. able to save logs into different folders depending on what account i used. But recently i have to save the logs into the same folder)

RE: What feature do you want? by Pure_BY on September 30th, 2003 at 11:26 am

1)Set a custom name for yourself, that can be used in /me command, etc..

2) Set display pic for each status

3) Custom emoticons in pop-up window when type (

4) Display custom name for OFFLINE contacts ONLY

5) Block Group command on right mouse-click... I know there is a /command for it, but thats not comfortable

6) Custom Name displayed in stead of nickname in chatlogs (display the full contact name only once at the chat session title and shit...), event log window, etc

7) MUST have: a NEW Contact Manager
- Sometimes it just shows BULLSHIT as i know i have talked to someone yesterday and contact manager says he was last seen online 15 days ago
- Buttons like "block" should be added
- Maximize to full screen
- Sort everyone by custom name
- Set the custom names for contacts ALSO through contact manager

And, please, please, please -- SOMETHING TO REMOVE THOSE STUPID SPAM TABS, and maybe add your own

RE: What feature do you want? by dom_cram on September 30th, 2003 at 11:35 am

hey

just a quick suggestion. i have no idea about programming so this might be impossible

the quick icons panel is really cool

but is it possible to make one for custom emoticons, either adding them to the   "(" box  or make a new oone, maybe with ")" instead

because custom emoticons are insanely popular (check out mess.be), and eventually u lose track of them all and nobody wants to memorise 100 shortcuts

thanks

RE: What feature do you want? by PT_KiD on September 30th, 2003 at 11:37 am

Add more sounds..

  1. I dont know if it is possible trough msgplus! but if possible id like a feature to send more than 5 custom emoticons
  2. A feature do add many emoticons at one time (not like CE/DP manager something like MyEmo instaler)

.

And nothing more for now.. ill think about this.

RE: What feature do you want? by God of the Devil on September 30th, 2003 at 11:45 am

a notifcation when you do / commands wrong.. esp when you do typos eg /beb instead of /brb etc...

RE: What feature do you want? by TheDude on September 30th, 2003 at 12:00 pm

1.) POP3 email popups
2.) Add the time thing:
#i will go in five seconds
#5#/signout
   thing to personalized status.
3.) An auto-message for instant lock mode, and also different types of instant lock (e.g 1 key combo changes you to "away", another to "on the phone).
4.)Also if possible, more that 5 custom emoticons in one message + if possible more than one row of custom emoticons on drop down menu.

Thanks!

RE: What feature do you want? by Asheron on September 30th, 2003 at 12:17 pm

Hello Everyone!

I'm agree with all the futures that are suggested, it will be the best addon for MSN Messenger.

I will just suggest one thing, maybe its stupid but all my ideas have been already stolen , lol .

  • When the user type "/" in the conversation windows, it will be nice if a box appears showing the commands avaible....
  • I dont know if it was already suggested, but it will be also nice to add a color box in the Custom Nick box, or when we type "CTRL + K" it appears a box..

I hope those ideas are good, else forget them, hehehe.

Asheron

RE: What feature do you want? by fluffy_lobster on September 30th, 2003 at 12:20 pm

Don't forget to save the default nickname (before {} suffixes are added) to the registry so that it doesn't kill suffixes not created by Plus! upon sign-in (either that or have the option not to kill them at all)

I said I'd remind you

RE: What feature do you want? by VoyagerFan on September 30th, 2003 at 12:24 pm

maybe you can add a feature like if you are transferring a file to someone
it could tell you an estimate of how long is left for the trasnfer

????

RE: What feature do you want? by gijs_liegbeest on September 30th, 2003 at 12:28 pm

i fully agree with wipey bout the winamp2/3 status in your nick (!WAT)
also i think it would be nice to open your convo logs with a command(eg. /log)
that would be it for me

RE: What feature do you want? by jasonsn on September 30th, 2003 at 12:31 pm

Hi Everyone!  Here are some new features that I would like to see in the next upgrade/update for MSN Plus?.

1. Add something to MSN Plus to allow you sign on to one or more e-mail accounts such as hotmail and MSN accounts.

2. Add dMSN Messenger smilies if you get approval from the creator of the program:  If you get approval then add them to MSN Plus

3. Tabbed chat windows so that we don't have to keep looking at a different window all the time.  Tabbed windows is one window that has a tab at the top with the users, you click on them and you can chat to them then when you get a beep you can click on the other user.

RE: What feature do you want? by pykmi on September 30th, 2003 at 12:31 pm

What I would like to have in Plus, would be definately editing tabs, and or deleting the whole tabs bar.

RE: What feature do you want? by vivo on September 30th, 2003 at 12:36 pm

a /amsg feature that sends to everyone on your list, not just the IM windows you have open

What feature do you want? by Qith on September 30th, 2003 at 12:47 pm

Alrite, this is my first post, but who cares... after all,  it's still a contribution, right?

I'd like a feature that changes the main screen in the way that the attachment shows. So check the attach and you'll know what I mean ^_^.

BTW, that same thing, but not in the main screen, but in those popup thingies that come up out of the system tray when someone comes online, that would be cool as well .

RE: What feature do you want? by j.g.allen on September 30th, 2003 at 12:53 pm

Hi
1. Export and Import Reg Preferences, although I would prefer to have the info in a .ini file for each email address so that every time your registry gets reset you don't have to do it all over again. AND its easier to backup

2. POP3 popups. HOW HARD CAN IT BE.

3. Event popups. Like Xersis' Status Notifier........but integrated.

4. What about adding Custom Names in the conversations. I would prefer that. Also have it in the chat logs.

Aye..........that's about it
J

RE: What feature do you want? by deRusett on September 30th, 2003 at 01:00 pm

I would like to see the following,  some of which have already been mentioned

MSN docking,  Much Like ICQ,   BUT,  I would like to be able to Dock Horizontally or vertically,  if I push it to the top of my screen it should look like my start menu,  with contacts listed down to up instead of left to right.

Custom Emoticon/Image Grabber,  when I have an Emoticon or a Friend has one that we want to swap we have to hunt it down.  it would be nice to just grab it.

Random Display Picture Picker,   set a DIR to select from and your Display pictures will randomly rotate.

The Ability to Load Multiple Display Pictures and Emoticons at the same time.

Patchou:

The sound feature is lots of fun, but there are too few sounds!  I would love to see a feature similar to the add your own emoticon feature added by MSN but with sounds.  That way I could put whatever sound I want and play it to a friend's Messenger as long as they have the same file.  Can you do this??  Is your King Fu that strong?

Thanks,

Block/Unblock an entire group.

Some way of seeing if another user has Plus!

If someone becomes Idle, it'd be nice if MSN Messenger could show this, instead of the (Away tag).

Allow longer shortcuts for custom emoticons.

Also, would it be possible to make the MSN Messenger main windows snap to the right side of the screen (and fill the height), and force all other applications to stay the left of it, the same way ICQ does?

RE: What feature do you want? by pedro_gb on September 30th, 2003 at 03:14 pm

Greetings.

The suggestion I'm about to make may sound rather unusual, especially as most people seem to prefer the Plus! logs to the ones offered by MSN...

After you install Plus! not all the MSN XML logs are written... some are, but others aren't. I think it's got something to do with how long you keep the window open...

But anyway, I must say that I like the way the XML logs are much cleaner, and when you've got to actually *read over* your logs it's much easier as they're colour-coded.

Plus I believe new users will find it convenient since they'll be able to use the same logs as before... and they are much more flexible.

Of course it'll be just as good if Plus offers the option of creating it's own XML logs!!! I suppose it would be as simple as using a different template. That would be really cool, actually!!!

Other than that I must say I consider Plus! some excellent software.

Thanks in advance.

Pedro

RE: What feature do you want? by BooGhost on September 30th, 2003 at 03:14 pm

The best ones so far :

1- Allow using commands beginning with / (like: /block) and timed things (like #5#) in auto-away messages
2- Alphabetical order for custom names (I heard somewhere you could do it, i think)
3- POP3 pop-ups (pop-ups for pop mail accounts)
4- Customizable pop-ups for the "Event Log Window"'s events
5- Change (Away) tag to (Idle) tag in the normal contact list
6- Set display pic for each status
7- Formatted nick on the nick place in the contact list(Check here)

some of them might be TOO Hard though

RE: What feature do you want? by DABURA on September 30th, 2003 at 03:49 pm

Well i've still have got some suggestions:

1
Save all settings (messengers and plus, including custom backgrounds and smilies etc.)

2
more accounts (names not the password ofcourse) in memory so i could select one of them ( i do not use XP) maybe include an option for others so it doesn't store their accountnames

3
a better organized chatlog like the Messenger 6 creates

RE: What feature do you want? by Chonqi on September 30th, 2003 at 04:02 pm

RE: What feature do you want? by KingDodo on September 30th, 2003 at 04:10 pm

Like some peoples, i would like to see some new features for pop3 function on Messenger Plus.

1) The thing i would like to see is a link on messenger who let you know how many new emails you have on the pop3 account and when you click on it, your default mail client open.

If it is not so hard to do, why not add the possibility to see a preview of the new emails that let you delete the new emails you dont want to see in your mail client.

2) Is it possible to add the possibility to resume a transfer when it fail?

Thanks

RE: What feature do you want? by Kagerou on September 30th, 2003 at 04:14 pm

<- Also if I want to use a comand like /nick or /brb I have to open an IM window and sometimes I have nobody connected, so it would be great to add a text box somewhere where that kind of commands are accepted.>(Not sure who said this)

I like that Idea, and I like the idea of having window/menu docked to the side of the screen. Maybe that could be all in the same menu on the side of the screen or something. . .By the way, I have no idea what I'm talking about, so if that doesn't make sense I'm sorrie ^^;;

RE: What feature do you want? by bl1nkr0x on September 30th, 2003 at 04:16 pm

2 main things

1. i hear ppl sayin all the time about having (!WAP) in ur nick but i havent seen it in this post - itd be gr8 so i cud get rid of this other addon 4 it...

2.  realy a hing about the ads that u can install on ur desktop atm 2 help support Pacthou.  how about tryin to fit them in2 messenger? like replacing the MSN ads with ur ads? i think more ppl wud use it thsi way...

and also as ppl have sed
- POP3 toast popups
- icon 2 say if person has Plus! - itd b gd if wen u hover in it it sed wat version...
- /block etc being alowed in auto-messages
- File transfer resume
- MORE SOUNDS!!! lol

RE: What feature do you want? by noroom on September 30th, 2003 at 04:34 pm

hey all

i saw some pretty cool suggestions... hope patchou pays the right attention to them

here are my suggestions:

1) Make your own special tags, to be able to make my own version of (!WAT) that is something like:
: (!WAT)

and assign that to (!W) so i dont have to type it everytime.

I know this can be added with the quicktexts, but this way its easier to include it in the middle of a phrase, and in another "/" commands.
Besides, it would be very useful for some combination of custom emoticons, or emoticons that are made up of many 19x19 icons.

2) A font color changer

3) Typing a "/" and waiting a few secs pops up a list of all available "/" commands

hope you can manage to add these. not very hard to code, but very useful!

RE: What feature do you want? by CookieRevised on September 30th, 2003 at 04:36 pm

Two more suggestions...
(Both easy to implement -IMHO... with my experience in programming-)

suggestion 1:

I would like to use tags (like (!N) and (!M)) in custom contactnames, so I can make a custom name but without losing the 'real name' which people use:

Say John Seaghers 'real name' is:
"blah am I"
In the contact list I will see:
"blah am I (online)"
With a custom name edited I could see:
"John S (online)"
But I would like to see this for example:
"John S: blah am I (online)"
The custom name in Plus! would then be:
"John S: (!N)"

(Mind the recursive problem for (!CN), but then again, this will be easly overcome by preventing it's use or the loop only once to convert the tag)

see also this thread: The use of tags in custom names

suggestion 2:

I would like to change the font-size in the 'Event Log'-Window. (without changing the font size of Plus! tru the registry)
(cause it's too small on my 19" monitor, and not easy to read on my TV)

Changed through:
1) only through the registery, that would be fine
2) a right-click on the event-window, would be nicer
3) changed through the preferences, would be great

see also this thread: Event-log window font-size

--------
Patchou
after reading all the suggestions:
* CookieRevised gives Patchou gallons of coffee.....

RE: What feature do you want? by Alamarco2 on September 30th, 2003 at 04:43 pm

i want an actual window for the event logs, so that way i can actually use it instead of it gettin lost in my other windows, it would be very useful

RE: What feature do you want? by Punk_Out on September 30th, 2003 at 04:45 pm

Alot of my ideas are taken except for i think 2!

1st)
I've always wanted  (since 6.0 came out) that u could put your own personal emoticons in your name.

That would be awesome and .............

2nd)
Wooo! I forgot my last 1!

RE: What feature do you want? by Haefalas on September 30th, 2003 at 05:22 pm

I don't know if someone has already mentioned it, but it's the little useless things i think makes a program really interesting.

Like for example a winamp script.

i don't know if it's been suggested beforehand (or even if it's there, i just play with MSN plus, don't read the manuals ) but i think a winamp script would be fun.

there is one that could be easily adapted from various other programs, such as ICQ. I'de be happy to send you the code or whatever for that, and i'de imagine it would just be a case of adding it in somewhere, but i'm not sure.

Thanks, and nice work on the MSN plus. Remove all the crap from MSN messenger

RE: What feature do you want? by Chi-Imouto on September 30th, 2003 at 06:02 pm

1. Optional Removal of the tabs on the side (They're so annoying!)
2. Optional Hiding of the Custom Experience thingy
3.  Expandibility of the Emoticon Box thingy in Conversation windows, make it hold more custom emoticons and stuff
4. Ability to put sound commands in autoMessages and Nicks.
5. Make your own Sounds  (Just like the custom emoticons thing in MSN 6, but sounds)
6. More Sounds >_<;
7. You know the feature that detects your music playing on Winamp? Well, it would be really cool if it could detect music from Windows Media Player too.

RE: What feature do you want? by Bridgey on September 30th, 2003 at 06:04 pm

I really like the idea of the main msn window folding away into a side of your screen. I'd love it if this was incorperated into plus.

Also, something i havent seen suggested yet... A small window at the top of your screen (narrow bar, like the address box for example) which scrolls your incoming messages. Exactly like an html marquee, that can show your incoming messages from different contacts (including smilies). Heres an example...

_____________________________________________________________________
*Fred Says: yo scott!      *Bob says: hey!     *Mary says: woot!
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
(Ok.. you'll just have to use your imaginations and visualise... The text in that bar is moving... it looks 10 times better when its on the top of your screen )

Is this possible?  I saw it done in an addon for Messenger 5. I used to use it all the time and it saved me time clicking on the taskbar to see what people said, just to notice that they wernt worth clicking on.

Oooh, just thought of another thing: Customised alert boxes. Or just a new "MSN Plus" style box.

THIS IS A GOOD IDEA, and even if you couldn't hav this particular feature, could the same idea be used, except showing the events log instead?
If this, and the idea of anchoring sum sort of menu, event log window, or messenger itself to the side of the screen is impossible it would also be good, if the event log window could be invisible (example, you can click on it) and have an anchor point. So that when it is always on top, you can click on stuff that is behind it if you have that option on, but still have a section that brings up the menu, or enables you to move it.

I've only read the first 3 pages so i dont know all thats been said but i think this would be great...

MAXAMIZABLE CONTACT MANAGER
Block & unblock buttons in contact manager
and have it show that contacts are blocked in the contact manager , it only shows them as offline instead of blocked.

RE: RE: RE: What feature do you want? by Bridgey on September 30th, 2003 at 08:10 pm

Right. Here's the Plus! Bar (heh) I designed to give you a little view into what I mean...

(My graphics are crap, i'm sure Patchou could make it look a lot better )

The picture of the green msn guy can be used to show your contact list, or whatever, and remember that the messages are the ones people are sending you (could be combined with the event viewer to show events aswell) and will scroll accross the bar at a slow(ish) speed.

If you'd like to see what the alert and bar look like on a desktop, heres one I made earlier. Head on over to http://skateupdate.com/plusbar.jpg

RE: What feature do you want? by Patchou on September 30th, 2003 at 08:15 pm

actually, this idea is far from bad.. I'll have to keep that in mind. Btw, as you seem more excited than I first thought about new features, I already started to work on Messenger Plus! 2.30. The first thing I'm doing is a request I received  since the first version of Messenger Plus!... adding stuff in the contact popup menu. If you have ideas of what would be useful there, let me know!

How about a feature where u can drag ur custom emoticons into ur chat window. Or a feature which allows u to see all ur custom emoticons and drag them to ur chat window!!

RE: What feature do you want? by Sk3tch on September 30th, 2003 at 08:25 pm

You wouldnt be able to drag anything into the window or Message box without sending them the emoticon as a file.

RE: What feature do you want? by sunnyboymark on September 30th, 2003 at 09:59 pm

I bet this feature was already mentioned somewhere in these 16 pages of posts. But I'd love to see the ability to sign in as "appear offline".......which is very similar to the Yahoo "invisible" feature which makes people believe you are offline when you're really not. The ability to send IM's when in offline mode would be great, just as U can still IM back and forth even when in invisible mode with Yahoo.

Thats the main thing I would like to have. What MSN Messenger also needs is an autohide menubar feature. Just as U can autohide the menu in the IM box, why not hide the menu in the main MSN Messenger Window. And change its colors as well, or even better....give it themes: Shades of brown for Autum.....White, Silver or Grey for Winter, Shades of Yellow and green for the spring, and red or orange for the summer

Just some ideas.

RE: What feature do you want? by itior on September 30th, 2003 at 10:37 pm

I think someone suggested this before but I'm not quite sure so I'll say it again anyway.

It's sort of like a 'Run' box for Plus!. Ie. a small window that opens with msn where you can type commands, much like the run box. I think it would be a neat little feature (also handy to overcome textbox being greyed out etc).

RE: What feature do you want? by jordanspringer on September 30th, 2003 at 11:27 pm

HERE ARE A FEW GOOD FEATURES THAT WOULD MAKE MSG PLUS GO FROM GREAT TO EXCELLENT:

1. Pop-Email Toasts

2. Display Emoticons in contacts names in the main MSN Window (the window that lists all of your contacts) This would be a good feature although there should be an option to toggle it off/on.

3. Be able to right click on a contacts name and instantly be able to check wheter or not you've been blocked from them. You could use this by creating a link to the MSN Blocker Status Checker from www.mess.be, and have the contacts email pre filled in and checked to see whether or not you have been blocked.

4. Be able to tell whether or not the contact has closed the message window on the other end of the conversation. A note where the "user is writing a message" note is displayed could say "the user has closed the window", or something similar. The reason i mention this is because on Linux, i have AMSN, which can identify wheter or not the window has been closed.

5. A "link" that easily allows a user to send his display picture to the user, similar to how MSN 6 has an option to share backgrounds.

6. CUSTOMIZED SOUNDS! -- be able to send your own sounds to a user...this i believe would be more easily possible as it is now possible to send customized emoticons and display pictures to a user.

THATS ALL I CAN THINK OF AT THE MOMENT! MESSENGER PLUS ALREADY KICKS ASS AND IS #1!!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK PATCHOU!!!!!!!!

RE: What feature do you want? by Sk3tch on September 30th, 2003 at 11:35 pm

2. Cant be done because of limitation. Although it would be nice.
3. Wouldnt be possible since i doubt mess be would want there Status cheaker flooded again. And i think Patchou wouldnt alow it on Plus. If you want a block checker on msn get Wouters Real Status Cheak Plugin.
4. is also been done already in a plugin and also wouldnt be added on to plus.

RE: What feature do you want? by jordanspringer on September 30th, 2003 at 11:41 pm

what do u mean #2 cannot be done? i have used a version of messenger for linux that has emoticons in peoples names in the main msn window...do u mean that inorder to allow this, modifications to MSN Messenger would have to be made, and an extention such as Plus is not sufficent enough?? If this is true, does anyone know of a place or patch in which u can make this possible? thanks,

Jordan Springer

RE: What feature do you want? by BooGhost on September 30th, 2003 at 11:44 pm

the verion for linux is a re-build messenger it's not the messenger MS has done, the only way of doing this would be by modifiing the .exe (illegal)

RE: What feature do you want? by jordanspringer on September 30th, 2003 at 11:58 pm

Customized Display Pics for different status's would be awesome too!

RE: What feature do you want? by AustinM1983 on October 1st, 2003 at 12:44 am

The feature i would love to see included with messenger+ is a custom emotions scrol bar. Just another tab in the chat box consisting of all your custom emotions in a scrol bar for quick adding into conversations.

Making the emotions list easier to edit would also be another usefull feature. ie being able to edit the custom emotions lists by draging emotions would be a usefull feature.

Docking the messesnger screen to the side of the screen coul also be an option for messenger +

an easy scrol bar for display pics is another feature that i would like to see.

and an emotion and display pic stealer / adder could also be a good feature to add to the messenger + software.

Thanks

RE: What feature do you want? by ChrisTorng on October 1st, 2003 at 12:54 am

  1. XML style message and event log, I would very very happy because my messagelog can be better!
  2. Email and other event notify popup window (with mail title).
  3. Each message receive times in chat window like "01:02:03 ChrisTorng says:".
  4. An always shown emoticons/colors selection window for quick click, option to show their shortcut for keyin reference.
  5. Send more chars in one message (unlimited is the best!).
  6. Integrate plus! function in contact list's right click context menu.
  7. Offline contact management, like send message, see log, email, custom name... And it will be done when go online.
  8. Help file like normal chm file for each menu/setting item.
  9. Event log filter to view specially event, like only someone's on/off line, or it can be done in external xsl-xml style log.
  10. Automatically detect others if thay had installed mp2, then enable those specially function in mp2.
  11. Automatically change shortcut to icon when input message. Quick icon panel insert icon not shortcut too.

I would more happy if I can share my messagelog work to all mp2 lover within mp2
RE: What feature do you want? by AustinM1983 on October 1st, 2003 at 01:07 am

one last feature I would like to see in messenger is the option of having a defult display pic. but when u change your display pic in a particular convo it changes only that display pic in that convo so you could hav differnet display pics for each person your chatin to if you want...

RE: What feature do you want? by penguin4 on October 1st, 2003 at 01:10 am

I tried to read through the previous posts but my eyes got sore by the time I got to the 9th page and I gave up!  So I am sorry if my suggestion has already been mention.

You know what would be great?  If you could make those silly pop-up messages actually useful to people who are not sitting in infront of the computer all day!  Couldn't you add a text-to-speech option to have the contents of certain Toasts read outloud?  Like, when a contact comes online it could speek outloud "Silly Girl has just signed in."  This could also be useful with email notifications too.  This way you don't have to get up and go over to the computer all the time to read the little message. (I realize this isn't too useful for people who are not in the same room as their computer, but I am a student so my entire life is contained within one room.)

I really like the idea of being able to determine if the person I am in a conversation with actually has Plus! installed.  I can't count how many tiems I have "sent" a sounds to people who then ask me why I sent an incoherent message to them!

I also like the idea of having Personalized status messages for status' other than just "Away"

Aside from these things, I think that Plus! is already great!

1) In the personalized menu for each contact, add:

Copy nickname to clipboard

2) In Contact Manager... a button to Block & Delete the contact !!!

RE: What feature do you want? by Freaky on October 1st, 2003 at 02:36 am

this is something very usefull that I have seen on a 3 th party messenger.

When a conversation window is opened I'd like to see the last 20-30 lines of the conversation log (grayed out). so u can easly pick up the subject if u closed the window (without opening the logfile and scrolling all the way down).

hey i was wondering if you would be able to make it so you could lock messenger in appear offline mode?

that'd b great

that way i can have messenger locked and be away from my computer, and appear offline to everyone

RE: What feature do you want? by Pedster on October 1st, 2003 at 03:54 am

I keep my MSN on 24/7, when im out, in bed, etc.....

When MSN boots/logs you off and if you had a 'personalised status' activated, when it logs you back in (automatically), change to that 'personalised status' automatically. .......

RE: What feature do you want? by AustinM1983 on October 1st, 2003 at 04:01 am

ok i have one more suggestion lol yet again.
this one is that after u have finished sending someone a file your computer will automatically shut down. this feature would mean you could leave your puter to finish sending or uploading a file then leave.

probably not as good as having a scrol bar for custom emotions but another handy ltl feature.

you could have this in your stats kinda thing i.e. away. log of after transfer completion. orlog off and shut down on file transfer completion. (something like that).

RE: What feature do you want? by Choli on October 1st, 2003 at 05:12 am

I also want to suggest this:
When you type a command (ie: /all or /text) it would be great if for some commands, Plus! parses the next word to see if it's a command too. I mean that I want to write things like

/all /me is going to bed and that sends to everybody Choli is going to bed

/text /noicon To mix (!FC5)colors(!FR) with emoticons, type things like this :[i][/i]) and that sends... blah! what you can imagine

(also /all /text /noicon should be supported (ie, more than 2 (3, 4...) commands))

Other things I like are that Plus! adds items to (contextual or not) menus -Keep working on that Patchou - and knowing when your contact has Plus! installed (although you said it would be an invasion to privacy and you wouldn't do that)

The contact manager should show when a contact has deleted you. I hate going to the allow list and compare with the list of people how have added me.

About plugins, can you exted Plus! API? Include new events, if you think that won't be a security risck.

Finally, I want to say newbies that a lof ot the features they've requested are currently posible with Plus! I encourage you to see the tutorials and faq in www.msgplus.net to learn more about the possibilities that Plus! offers.

BTW, I've read the entire thread, but after 150 read posts I want to excuse myself if I've suggested something repeated. Thanks

RE: What feature do you want? by CoReDooM on October 1st, 2003 at 06:34 am

Hey guys, thanks patchou for letting us say the features we want. Much appreciated...

Well here our some:

*You know when someone keeps signing in and those msn notifications keep coming up, it would be good to make a feature that if the person signs in another time before this time out you set in Plus!, that the notification dosn't appear because it can be very annoying if you understand what I mean.

*Another Feature would be great to make Plus! auto detect when you go to busy, away, out to lunch ect status and change your display pic, to whateva you choose for that status.

*Also I have lots of accounts, on my MSN Messenger and it would be great if you could make a feature, to block ads for all accounts.

*Maybe you could put an Auto Update system into Plus!, that you could just click update and Plus! would update to the latest version out.

Thats it for now, i'll have to think about more features indeed!

Anyway hope you like some of them above.

Cheers

-CoReDooM

RE: What feature do you want? by Dempsey on October 1st, 2003 at 07:16 am

More events in the Plugin API would be good, maybe things like ontextrecieved etc.  And a way to have a plugin continually run in the background once it's been started, rather than returning a value to the chat then finishing.  And a way to call plugin commands without having a convo open, maybe add a text field in the plus preferences that plugin commands can be typed into.

RE: What feature do you want? by Tpgn007 on October 1st, 2003 at 07:34 am

Here's my wish list , incl. my favorites from previous posts:

-Add block/unblock group the the context menu of groups. <dannyres a.o.>

-Have the contact manager display which contacts have you also added to their contact list. <AzNiNsEcT a.o.>

-Option to "right click" on display picture or custom emoticons from your contact and 'Save picture' or 'Save picture as'. <riley a.o.>

-Expanding the quick icons panel to include (many) more custom emoticons. <dom_cram a.o.>

-When the contact list is sorted by Online/Offline contacts i.s.o. Groups: Display a (custom) emoticon on the contact list after/before a contact's nick or status, indicating which particular group the person belongs to. BTW this would then also require another good thing: displaying emoticons in a name on the contact list

-Add an option to change your display picture in the personalised status window when going away. <riley a.o.>

Thanks, Tpgn007

hmmm. its prob. been said, but how bout
/talkall
sends a message to all the contacts that you have a convo box open with,
and /all for everyone whom is online

RE: What feature do you want? by Dempsey on October 1st, 2003 at 07:54 am

something which would be really cool, especially in the contact right click menu would be a profile viewer.  Like the plugin im making, but in the main msn window contact list context menu thing.  So you dont have to open up a new web browser and stuff and see all the msn adverts etc.

See attached picture for example of what i mean.

RE: What feature do you want? by Ponty on October 1st, 2003 at 08:46 am

1. I'd like a display picture 'slideshow', which let's you choose e.g. 3 different pictures as display picture and then plus! will automagically change the picture to a new one every e.g. 5 mins.

2. Would also be nice to be able to have a different display picture for each of your buddies

Are you actually making that program? If you are then wouldn't Patchou just b able to incorporate it into plus? or couldnt u make it an extra program? I think ive seen it before in another program, before i found msg plus! it downloaded the profile information. It was like a contact manager sort of thing. Unfourtunately i cannot remember the name, but i dont think that it is still in development.
RE: What feature do you want? by Dempsey on October 1st, 2003 at 10:51 am

well even if messenger helper has it it would be nice to add it to Plus!, as Plus! is just so cool.  And my code cant just be incorperated into plus, because i code in vb and im sure that plus is coded in C or C++.

RE: What feature do you want? by DarkDan on October 1st, 2003 at 11:54 am

Man, I love MsgPlus!!!

Here's my feature request:

Timed away messages.

For example, I can set a schedule that says:
Each night at 10pm, set the away message as: Sleeping
Monday at 6:30pm-9:30pm set the away message as: In class

Dan

RE: What feature do you want? by Dempsey on October 1st, 2003 at 11:59 am

another thing that would be really cool is to actually read your hotmail messages within messenger, or at least find out the sender and the subject, so you know what ones you want to read.

RE: What feature do you want? by Hekx on October 1st, 2003 at 12:14 pm

I wouldn't mind some more POP3 account features.
Possibly a notification, either sound or toast pop-up would help.
Maybe add a option in the preferences UI to change the default POP3 mail client for people who don't like modifying the registry manually.

RE: What feature do you want? by kemisa on October 1st, 2003 at 12:51 pm

Yay go Patchou :yay:

btw scripting for Plus old talked about bt never done oo go one we all want it

Also a / icon to send the Inbuilt Webcam Convo on 6.0 and one for the XP one

RE: What feature do you want? by CookieRevised on October 1st, 2003 at 01:13 pm

An 'annoying' thingie in Plus! I just came across:

When you're in 'personal away status' with a auto-msg on and someone contacts you, you want to change to away status, without the auto-msg. But this can only be done by changing your status to something else and then change it back to away without an auto-msg...
Maybe to change this like so: when in 'personal away status' with auto-msg, and you click again on 'status: away', the 'personal away status'-screen appears again. (Now it doesn't do that)

RE: What feature do you want? by -Murua- on October 1st, 2003 at 02:12 pm

Feature to make keybord leds blink and option to let the pc-speaker make a sound on IM/singon/singoff

RE: What feature do you want? by Tochjo on October 1st, 2003 at 02:27 pm

Patchou will never include things like block checkers and so on, because he doesn't want to include options that could invade someones privacy.

Why would you want either of these functions?  I'd much prefer to use my own speakers and you can do the first one yourself   Patchou would have to press more keys to program this than it would ever save people pressing in pounding the Num Scroll and Caps Lock.

Besides, he wants to add some truly useful features, not just little easter egg-like tricks.
RE: What feature do you want? by chrome_gecko on October 1st, 2003 at 05:18 pm

Yeah i've an idea, clearly the image in msn (the display picture) is a bit like a resized image 'cept its stored somewhere in a hidden file, would there be anyway in which you could setup msn plus! to right click on the picture and either open it or save it? saves the hassle of sending an already sent picture if you know what i mean.  Keep up the good work

RE: What feature do you want? by Choli on October 1st, 2003 at 06:12 pm

I'm just thinking...

  • Show the personalised status window when going into any state, ie: not only when changin to away, but also when to busy, brb, ...
  • Automessage while on-line status. Some times I want to set my status to online, but I want to put automessages.

RE: What feature do you want? by bobhansen2 on October 1st, 2003 at 07:34 pm

i have an idea, add in an option to view/insert all custom emoticons at once, instead of only the first 10.

YEAH great idea (also other commands like Ctrl-t etc.....)

o and how hard would it be to implement in the contact list, when you right click a contact "change Custom Name to..." and when you right click a Group : "Block/unblock Group"

RE: What feature do you want? by Vilkku on October 2nd, 2003 at 12:21 am

Ok I don't know if someone mentioned this already and if it's do able at all. I suggested it a while ago and then someone said that he had talked with Patchou about it, but now I'm mentioning it again. It would be nice if you could see if the ohter user has Plus! like the webcam, with a icon in the IM window. This would help knowing to who you should send sound commands and to who you should sed Plus!

I really would like to see this as much as the next person. But the fact is that its a consern when privacy is invloved. If i may add to that, maybe a privacy box to enable weather you would Like to let other know you have Plus! or not. Then in which case it wouldnt be looked at as an invasion of privacy. well, if its possible i would love to see that.

RE: What feature do you want? by Carlito on October 2nd, 2003 at 04:50 am

Add a feature that automatically sets your nickname to display eg: "Curent Online Stats: 5/14 Friends; 7/8 Co-Workers; 2/9 Others;"

RE: What feature do you want? by Vilkku on October 2nd, 2003 at 04:57 am

Do you mean that ifyou have groups enabeled that the offline ones would be hidden? That would be great, because all the offline contacts are annoying so that's wht I don't use groups.

RE: What feature do you want? by Sk3tch on October 2nd, 2003 at 08:30 am

Not sure it this has been mentioned but i will anyway,
I love the /me feature in plus since i find it comes in handy. but i do have one problem, when i have some random name like for instance a song lyrics. "bla bla bla" In the convosation it will show as "bla bla bla says:" or for the /me it will be "bla bla bla is eating"
However id much prefere it it when i have those strange names that they didnt show up as that in the /me command. So maybe a preference to which you can store a pre-made backup name for the /me so i can have "bla bla bla" as my name but when i type /me is eating it will say: "Sk3tch is eating" Just an idea.

RE: What feature do you want? by Tycoontje on October 2nd, 2003 at 08:56 am

Hi,
I just read about this topic on mess.be, so I wrote down everything I thought of before and some things I just thought of. Here we go..

- Option to get a popup if a contact goes offline (or changes statusl, but that should then definitely be configurable).
- Option to show the time a message came in and/or when you wrote yours in the message window.
- Option to select which tabs you want and which tabs you don’t want. Maybe add your own for fast access to anything (either a website or a program).
- Option to hide the "Go to my e-mail inbox" link when there is no email or when you don't use it. I don’t use it (I'm using an old, invalid emailaddress to sign in), but sometimes I click it accidentally, which is very annoying, because it starts Outlook and I don’t need it.
- Option to remember the status when you exit and login with the same status when you restart the program.
- Fix that you’ll go back online when you “appear offline” and you go into “idle” (preference setting for AutoAwayAlways).
- Possibility to save somebody’s display picture
- Display when a user was last seen online when you hover your cursor over an offline contact. And display when a user came online for online contacts. Maybe also add when they went into their current status (like “Contact has been Away since..”)
- Remembering the folder from which you last added a custom emoticon or display picture and use it next time. Edit: apparently there is a plugin for this one, so nevermind! Thanks scott_5214!

My apologies if something has already been mentioned or if it’s already possible and I overlooked it..

Goodluck implementing all those new features! Some of the suggested ones would be really awesome! Keep up the good work!

These things are already possible. The first by using Plus! (event log window or event log file), the second by editing the .xml-file (search these forums) and the last one by unchecking a check box in the normal MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger options.

There are some programs around to steal someones pics. Search for Display Picture Stealer. With the Contact Manager you can check the last time someone was online.

Hopefully, these tools will help you.

These things are already possible. The first by using Plus! (event log window or event log file), the second by editing the .xml-file (search these forums) and the last one by unchecking a check box in the normal MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger options.

Ok, I know the first is possible through the logs, so that's why I specifically mentioned the message window.
The second I didn't know yet. I'll try that. But still, I think that Plus! could make it easier to do this. I don't think everybody wants to modify their files that way. And ofcourse Plus! is there to make life easier!
Third I didn't know and still can't find. Would you mind helping me out on where to find it?
Edit: apparently I was not clear enough about this. I didn't mean the popups, but the link to the inbox on top of the Contact window.

There are some programs around to steal someones pics. Search for Display Picture Stealer. With the Contact Manager you can check the last time someone was online.

The Contact Manager only shows days. I would specifically like to know times to be able to see when/why I missed somebody and stuff like that. So it's not the same. Besides, quicker access to this information from the Contact List would be appreciated.

Depends. I've got the Dutch version, then it is the menu Extra, then Opties, then the tab Algemeen and then deselect Meldingen weergeven wanneer e-mail wordt ontvangen.

In English that would be Tools > Options > General > deselect Show when new email is being received (or something like that).

ehmm an personalized /me. Sometimes I change my name in something like:

TWDman | blablablabla info etc.

but when I type an action message, you'll see this:

code:
/me thinks MsgPlus! Rocks!

TWDman | blablablabla info etc. thinks MsgPlus! Rocks!

but can you make it like:

code:
/me TWDman thinks MsgPlus Rocks!!

TWDman thinks MsgPlus Rocks

RE: What feature do you want? by jasonsn on October 2nd, 2003 at 12:06 pm

Yeah great ideas.  I like them all.

RE: What feature do you want? by nuttynat1uk on October 2nd, 2003 at 03:18 pm

1. Sign in as appear offline
2.  Make it so when you get disconnected, computer crashes or something so MSN Messenger signs out suddenly that you get the messages that would wouldn't get when you are signed back in.  Like yahoo messenger does.  Hope you get what I mean.

RE: What feature do you want? by |Rolando| on October 2nd, 2003 at 03:31 pm

RE: What feature do you want? by dosage on October 2nd, 2003 at 04:05 pm

Even with the latest version of MSGPlus my display pictures, emoticons and backgrounds seem to change whenever I restart Messenger or reboot my comp. Is there a way you can make them "stick" and not change everytime Messenger is launched? That would be a very good feature!

RE: What feature do you want? by lizard.boy on October 2nd, 2003 at 04:52 pm

backup with ce/dp maniger

[edit] a way to choose if you can seperate the name and e-mial in the event log windows so that you dont have to open it up all the way to rmember who the person is [/edit]

RE: What feature do you want? by Pai on October 2nd, 2003 at 05:18 pm

show personal emoticons in the box that appears when u type "(", because the "normal" msn smilie box only shows the first 10 ((

RE: What feature do you want? by lizard.boy on October 2nd, 2003 at 05:40 pm

oh wait something that make it so when your contact has not display pic your is hidden un that window and the personalised auto messageand /me name and a personalised "says" instead of like lizard boy auto-message: for the auto messages

RE: What feature do you want? by Roscoe on October 2nd, 2003 at 06:42 pm

Hey,
I haven't checked to see if anyone said this but a Custom Emotion adder, (I know there already exists one) that can add alot of emotions at once. It would be cool to see incorporated into plus.

RE: What feature do you want? by MenthiX on October 2nd, 2003 at 08:32 pm

Hmm... i'm gonna have to think about what would be wanted most...

My persoanl request wolud be more (yes more again) quicktexts, how about somewhere arround 99?? I use those thins sooo much

Popup's for pop3 would be nice too.

RE: What feature do you want? by DarKnight on October 2nd, 2003 at 08:45 pm

I agree. More Quick-texts would be great.

I was wondering if it would be possible to make it so we can set a different font color for each chat window, like some people on my list use a light background, and my light font color doesn't match well, and they have to highlight.

RE: What feature do you want? by optimism_ on October 2nd, 2003 at 08:49 pm

Since theres 19 pages now i cant be bothered to read them all so i dunno if this has been said i know this has been mentioned a lot on the plugins thread

* a method for adding text only to the local chat window for examples bookmarks for the log files (so you add a unique string to the conversation when something important has been said then later you can find it by doing a search in notepad or where-ever)
or also (my use ) a method for sending plugin error messages only to the local user hence only they can see when an error occurs, it is not broadcast to every participant.

hope this one can go in too

RE: What feature do you want? by Greg1979 on October 3rd, 2003 at 02:52 am

Umm for now what about an offline talker, contact list extension, and a nick name extension.

RE: What feature do you want? by st.entienne on October 3rd, 2003 at 06:38 am

Ability to autologin at startup.. and go into boss protection.. or auto lock.. that'd be a GREAT favour on many who need to be on but cant be.

It seems MSN Messenger 6.1 has this feature: check http://messenger.msn-int.com/Feature/Personalize.aspx?mkt=en-gb for more information.
RE: What feature do you want? by Sk3tch on October 3rd, 2003 at 08:38 am

No Tochjo1987, he means  Font Color, Not Conversation window color
And its a good idea. I doubt it would be possible though without having to store some sort of settings for each individual contact.

RE: What feature do you want? by Tochjo on October 3rd, 2003 at 08:40 am

Oh, sorry... I thought he meant the "front" of the window...

Other Idea of feature about blocking contact... by Bull on October 3rd, 2003 at 09:14 am

What about status which blocked predefined contacts?

For instance, when you are at work, you want to block automatically your friends by changing your status to "at work". And the reverse at home...

What do you think about all?

Thx

RE: What feature do you want? by Wouter on October 3rd, 2003 at 09:35 am

i think the nametag that will show how long you are idle is a good thing to add
like i made in my plugin
http://msgplus.mybboard.com/showthread.php?tid=14182&page=2

and mabe a command like (!IDLE) withs will show how long you are idle for away messages.

RE: What feature do you want? by KnightieBoy on October 3rd, 2003 at 09:36 am

what about a feature, that lets only ''personalised'' toasts to come through when you status is busy, what I mean is : Status = busy ( no popup toasts will get through ) and then you can enter an email in Plus! and it lets the popup toasts of that person through...

( sorry for my sucky explaination )

RE: What feature do you want? by fluffy_lobster on October 3rd, 2003 at 09:54 am

Yeah I see what you mean.  I would appreciate a set of advanced toast tools that:

Could automatically disable toast messages when on certain statuses
Re-enable toasts for certain users
Toast for users coming online from another status
Why not notifications like new versions of plus in toast windows while you're at it

RE: What feature do you want? by Whacky Rosie on October 3rd, 2003 at 10:19 am

I want an audible email notification for non hotmail accounts instead of just relying on looking at the screen because that is a bit hit and miss. A pop up notification would be usefull too!

Somebody please make an update! Surely all the techno boffins would be able to do it?

Rosie

RE: RE: What feature do you want? by DarKnight on October 3rd, 2003 at 01:12 pm

Would it be possible to add a feature to Plus! that will let us have an icon in the system tray instead of the default MSN one? ( I already know it can be changed through Resource hacker, but would be cool if it could be changed with a click of the button in Plus! )

RE: What feature do you want? by KingManon on October 3rd, 2003 at 01:34 pm

- the ability to change the key to send a message (eg. change 'return' to linebreak and 'ctrl+return' to send)
- alert via systray and not have window pop-up
- have a minilog available in the window from the last conversation (eg. if you close the window then the next time it is opened, it takes the last 10 lines of the log and displayes it)

- add the ability for OnKeyDown etc. in the SDK (important!)

RE: What feature do you want? by bl1nkr0x on October 3rd, 2003 at 02:35 pm

how about a feature for the automessages so that it can b person/group/word specific

it could b that all ppl in a certain goup cud get 1 automessage, 1 certain person gets another and then andy1 hu send a msg with a specif word of combo of words gets another

this wud b useful as i wud find use for this a lot...

RE: What feature do you want? by riley on October 3rd, 2003 at 02:38 pm

just came up with this..

different display name in IM window than in Main Window..

so in this way you can extend your name in IM window on this way it isn't necessary to have long names in Main window what looks sh*t..( i know about custom names, but here it goes over your own display name.. )maybe your Main window display name could show where it is right now (above) and in talking lines the different name...
damn! this hard to explain.. hope you all understand

so different display name in IM window than in Main window

by Test Zero on October 3rd, 2003 at 02:44 pm

Option to right-click > save custom emoticons.

Bypass the "5 different custom emoticons per message" limit.

The option to "ignore" somebody rather than block them. You would appear online to someone who you have "ignored", but you would not receive any messages from them.

"Anti-Flood" - If this is enabled, then you would not receive any void messages (i.e. ones with just a space in and nothing else), and nor would you receive the same message twice in a row.

RE: What feature do you want? by pr0xy_nuk3r on October 3rd, 2003 at 05:49 pm

I'de like to have the option to send a whole group a file, or a messege, or a plus sound.

A LOT! by danve on October 3rd, 2003 at 06:00 pm

- Personalised Status Messages for different contacts would be cool.
  Ex:
Away message for contactx1@hotmail.com - I'm not here.
Away message for contactx2@hotmail.com - You are annoying.

- Schedules for personalised status.
  Ex:
     From 1am-7am - Personalised Status Message = I'm sleeping.
From 10am-6pm - Personalised Status Message = I'm at work.

Thanks Patchou!

POP3 toast window things would be extremely usefull too

What i would really like to see is an automatic plug in installer (if at all possible) what it wud do is check the plugins folder for a new DLL, check what language it is in and install the plug-in, This would make it so much easier for VB plug-in makers who r too lazy (like me) to create installers

RE: What feature do you want? by Paranoid_Android on October 3rd, 2003 at 09:27 pm

What about a spell checker? It would be brilliant for bad spellers or foreign english speakers. What i had in mind is that you can check the spelling of you message with either a click of a button or automatically like microsoft word. words like: LOL,GTG,BRB,U can also be added into the word bank of this spell checker!

RE: What feature do you want? by volkl on October 3rd, 2003 at 09:42 pm

not sure if this has been mentioned but o well
it wud be good if wen u signed in u could make it automatically go into boss protect or lock or sumthin

RE: What feature do you want? by cms on October 3rd, 2003 at 10:50 pm

I have two ideas for new features on msgplus:

1. Have a text formatting bar like every other IM client (font size, bold, text colour, underline, etc.) that can be hidden if you're not using it. This would be useful because its hard to remember those codes.

2. Have a custom emoticons dropdown box that shows all your custom emoticons. This would be useful so you wouldn't have to remember all the codes you made for them.

I made a picture of what I mean by these features which I attached below. If you like my ideas please post a message saying so!

-Alphabetical order for custom names (I heard somewhere you could do it, i think)
-POP3 pop-ups (pop-ups for pop mail accounts)
-customizable pop-ups for the "Event Log Window"'s events

1) If its possible, it would be a great feature!

2) Excellent suggestion, probably doable and with something like Will's fake notification creator module thing...it seems even more doable

3) Excellent! Keep them coming, you have a great imagination, I'd use all of these except maybe 1, as I hardly use Custom Names.

1. Multi-Format and custom emoticon supported Log and a log viewer (yeah, because Plus!'s log has more than MSN Messenger 6's and it's more read-able.)

2. Group-compatible contact manager: Contact manager can group contacts (using Messenger's group settings of course).

3. Most needed Exporting and Importing Preferences

4. Sorting feature in Event Log Window. Also, divide the user nickname and his/her email address into two columns, instead of single "User" column.

5. Built-in permanent color chooser you have the msn messenger id thing code now, it's not hard to complete it

1) I agree, however I still find it interesting to see the actual text, and not the emoticons for several reasons, one includes to make stealing emoticons more effective =p instead of just stealing their emotes, you steal their shortcuts too.

2) hmm, ok, but I believe it would be easier via the default way.

3) Most needed? I've never need this feature..what's it for =\?

4) hmm, good idea, it'll make the event window more legible and much more informative.

5) Shouldn't be too hard..the plugin does it fine atm though..perfect imo

6) Ginge used Will's module.

  2. an option to change your display picture in personalised status window when going away (in this way i can choose with my personalised status a fitting display picture)(think of tv, toilet, etc etc)

Un-needed, the ctrl + k dialog has mIRC's default colours. Then theres the custom colour feature that you can choose any feature that is in either hex or rgb format. IRC can't do that, but I believe its best not to add more colours to that panel as it will confuse the majority of us..

After reading 23 pages of posts and Patchou being very quite in regards to pop3 toasts am I right to assume it's a "No"?

RE: What feature do you want? by AustinM1983 on October 4th, 2003 at 01:19 am

ok i and others have mentioned the quick use of custom emotions before in a scrool bar, along with a similar scrool bar for the D.P.

however i have read on a few posts that this would mean the .exe of msn messenger would have to be changed which is not alowed so it got me thinkin.

what if you used a program similar to the old "drag and drop" program that was used for emotions before there was a pull down menue for them. instead with custom emotions and a scrool bar.

you could even set the program to paste just the text shortcut for the coresponding custom emotion if it was any easier.

now i know having this program sitin in the corner all the time could be a pain in the butt. however allowing it to be docked to the top left of the screen or even to the base or side of msn messenger or a conversation could be a way to overcome this.

attaching a similar "drag and drop" type program for display pics is another possibility. but with this one you could drop it in the convo to send it to a friend  or on top of your current display pic to change it.

P.S. sorry i forgot to use caps.

hope you like the idea don't know if it would work however.

Captain Canada : don't jump to conclusions and let me reserve you some surprises. I'm reading all your posts and, even if 50% of the suggestions are not in the scope of Messenger Plus!, there will be several brand new features in the next release

On event log window, when you double clic on an event, a pop up windows opens with: Event viewer details.
I suggest on this last window two buttons: next and last than follow all the events associated with this contact. When you clic on next button, the Event viewer details shows the next event for that contact.

and i like that idea of having a text box like you use in word, in the messenger box, and the idea of whe ntehy have a plus that it shows you a little icon in the top by where the icon for the web-cam goes

RE: What feature do you want? by Choli on October 4th, 2003 at 02:12 pm

This thread is a bit big to be read by me, so sorry if this has been said before: I'd like animated emoticons in the windows that opens when you type ( . Of course, that'll be with MSN Msg 6 or above.

REMEMBER STUFF by Webmaster Crebezze on October 4th, 2003 at 02:53 pm

!!! :

When I'm chatting with people over MSN, then they
somethimes ask me things that I should remeber.
(Name, question he asked but I wasn't there, ...)

renaming your contacts may help,
but I think it is anoying because you can't see their nick.
Somethimes that is important.

So I have a suggestion:

A special list (.txt?), locally stored and accesible from within MSN,
in witch you can write all kind of things about that contact.
(Real name, thing you still have to do for him, or when he insulted you and you wan't to ask him why and remeber it and...)

I know you can put it in the plus menu,
but perhaps also in the main window?
(By rightclicking on a contact's name)
(I saw a pic of you that showed you could...)

I HOPE YOU WILL HELP ME,
cause I NEED such a function!

Thank you and please let me know wheter you will try to help me...

Ps: Can it be that you stopped with giving a free ?gamecube?
to new members?
Then I will have to remove that notice from my 4 site's in wich I promted Plus!

I believe I gave you at least about 20 new members...

Greetz,
crebezze@tiscali.be

Webmaster Crebezze : be happy, that "keep information" information will be in the next release . As for the gamecube, yep, I wrote about it in my news, the contest has ended.

does anybody know wether my suggestion is doable or not? any comments?

RE: What feature do you want? by NoName on October 4th, 2003 at 05:50 pm

I think it could be done but both people would have to have plus! it would be something like a reshacked /me command

You could Just add Bot2k3@hotmail.com   thats always online and you can do many different features with it
RE: What feature do you want? by stunned_mullet on October 5th, 2003 at 03:52 am

If it hasn't been mentioned already, please please please make it so that you can still receive popups when you're status is away/busy/etc. or if you have someone blocked. Even though i have people blocked I still want to know when they come online!

RE: What feature do you want? by Chrono on October 5th, 2003 at 06:00 am

Something to shortcut ur nickname when u use the /me messages, so if u have a long nickname its chortened to something smaller....

this has been asked for a lot of times, i really hope u add it now !

j/k

RE: What feature do you want? by drv on October 5th, 2003 at 06:22 am

1 a find out who is blocking me option added to the contact manager

2.            a send command with ascii art format (just for fun)

3. in the join conversation action, you could add a random colour changer every time some one joins to distinguish the different chatters

4. the boost to 1100 characters could be bigger for poetry chats (my fav.. topic)

5. beside that, is it possible to add the plus! icons into the messenger, next to the (font/select an emotion/change backgrounds) column bar

thank you for your atention

1.  Patchou won't do that - it invades peoples' privacy. There's plenty of block checkers already on mess.be
4. That isn't possible, as the .NET framework can't take it.  It took a while to make 1100 bug-free so be thankful
5. The plus share button already does this but due to the way it's written, Messenger 6 doesn't display this.
RE: What feature do you want? by itior on October 5th, 2003 at 07:35 am

I really like the idea about the ability to send commands without a conversation window open. I suggested previously a run box for Plus! It would appear in the plus main menu, much like the event log window. Tick the box, up comes the little run box, type your command. It should have transparency and snap to screen capabilities.

Thanks Patchou.

RE: What feature do you want? by Batt|eman on October 5th, 2003 at 07:36 am

-pop3 pop up showing which pop3 email got new mail since we can have more than 1 pop3 mail in msgplus...
-maybe a link to go inside that email and check mail so more convenience...
-more sound commands so more fun

thedarktempler - A feture ive been wanting from any program and it would be great if plus could do it would be docking msn to the side of your screen so you couldnt see it then when you moved your curser to the side of the screen and touched the edge of the screen your contact list would pop out.
(this would be really really good, i dont no if it is possible, but i really really like it)

Sorry these arn't proper quotes, but i didn't no how to do more than one quote.

Thankyou Patchou your doing a great job!

i like these three ideas ^^'

and also ...

• /log (open log window) originally suggested by musicalmidget

• msn screen dock idea suggested by thedarktemplar (actually i can't see how this could be done without modifying the messenger executable )

• display a small plus! icon to let you know when the contact has plus! installed (wrxguy) (cool!)

• tabbed conversation windows (kings) (that would be great, but again, i don't think it is possible)

• custom name when using /me (slim shady)

• block/unblock group context menu (slim shady)

• /command in auto-messages

• file transfer resume (already suggested by someone, i believe)

• nickname normalizer - -'

• better log file (doesn't have to be xml, at least add the emoticons, colors, and multi-format message support ^^')

• notification toast when a contact initiate a chat session (for example when my contact open a chat window with me if you can understand what i mean)

• full name in chat log session title, custom one in the conversation log

etc. etc. etc.
RE: What feature do you want? by Kao on October 5th, 2003 at 09:28 am

how about, instead of typing /blockgrp <group name> etc, whenm you type /blockgrp a dialog pops up asking what group you wish to block. and then, when you type /unblockgrp it comes up with a similar dialog with blocked groups, and if none are blocked it simply says "No groups are blocked"

somwhere in this month (october)

RE: What feature do you want? by EvilSeph on October 5th, 2003 at 04:53 pm

Right..my turn..I will probably be repeating things that have already been posted, but thats because I want Patchou to know my FULL feature request list =).

  1. Custom alias scripting function with an unlimited amount of aliases you can set as it would use /<text> as an alias instead of keys.

  2. Scripting engine like mIRC (Dream on =P)

  3. Anti-Flood protection, to protect against those unwanted emoticon flooding lamers.

  4. Disable popups when a popup flood occurs

  5. Prevent name change floods -- Automatically create a custom name for the contact if they change their name in x minutes

  6. Seperate information links for pop3 mail accounts as I would find it easier than if it were all conjunctioned into one link =)

  7. Different name for each contact -- only used for those contacts that need your name to be censored, when it contains profanity or something along those lines

  8. Different status for each contact -- farfetched request =)

  9. Run command dialog -- like in an FTP client to run custom command line..commands..

  10. Enhance the current MSN Messenger font system to include much more colours as well as a colour picker

  11. Colour names and emoticons viewable in the main contact list window.

  12. Fast block alias -- allows you to set a number of contacts in a block alias, then access it via the contact list Messenger Plus! extended context menu. Once you click it, it will block the set contacts and unblock them when you click the unblock alias..

  13. Restore default settings option in prefrences (for development purposes, this may prove usefull)

  14. Export/Import settings, eg: Custom Names, Custom Emoticons, Contact List etc..

  15. Edit (!VER) Output, but only allow it to use variables instead of ordinary text.

  16. Invisible (!CHECK) sent to the user that determines whether or not to put a Plus! icon on your contact list next to their name, in a conversation windows next to their email, like the webcam icon does and in the add/invite contact dialog.

  17. Custom animated emoticons

  18. Animated Display Pictures

  19. Improved "(" emoticon quick-menu

  20. Improved, yet, secure plugin development urm..coding..

  21. More of everything ^_^

  22. Complete notification of all activities that occur whilst you are online. Eg: Status change, Name change..

  23. Not really encouraged..a bit kiddish, but a nice addition: closed window notification, open window notification

  24. Use of most commands in quick text and personal away messages.

  25. /all excepts list -- When using /all it sends to every conversation window open, BUT any emails in the except list.

  26. Auto accept of files -- limited to the set file types you put and / or email address in the "friends list". Like WDZ said, what can anything do if its not executed? You just recieve it. However, I would highly recommend that you, the users, don't put .exe in the accept list.

  27. Advanced, simple and compact file manager modes. Advanced - allows you to resume, restart, start, stop, pause etc. whilst having a directory for each file type..or something. With possibly, quick, first-run shortcuts, that automatically delete themselves after one use. Simple - allows you to resume, start, pause file transfers whilst having a default directory for the files. Compact - start, stop, resume, pause (or less).

  28. /ame with except list -- Like mIRC it sends a /me command to each open window, unless they are in the except list.

  29. Option to disable the plus plugin .dll so it won't be required to restart MSN to install a plugin.

  30. Built in reload function, to reload the plus plugin .dll

  31. Messenger Plus! context menu when righclicking in a conversation window..that replaces the current one.

  32. More of an appeal enhancing suggestion: Make the installer look nicer =P, add more features to the custom version of it.

  33. Make url's in names clickable

  34. Plus! Profiles =) just a tidbit.. -- add additional information about a user to a Plus! profile eg: their phone number, their favourtie food..etc..

  35. Integration of current popular Plugin's into Plus! with permission from the author.

  36. Block image preview option/custom emoticons per contact

  37. Set an application to be opened when clicking on the default hotmail "xx new emails" link in your contact list and one for pop3 as suggested before.

  38. Improved encryption with a "secret question" feature, so people can reset their password when they forget it. Although chances are everyone will forget their secret answer too...

  39. Some new sounds, easter eggs..just to thank the user for using Plus! =)

  40. Advertise Plus! function just for Plus! popularity purposes...

  41. Just for fun a custom colour for each contact with a default colour for contacts that don't have a custom one (confusing =\)

  42. Your current email in a textbox somewhere on your contact list and on all your conversation windows (handy for the polygamy users)

  43. Built in To-Do, reminder, calendar, schedule thingymathing, because I hate having too many seperate applications open..

  44. A built in Plus! theme..for the major fans out there =)

  45. Include pgp encryption so we can use our own encryption keys to encrypt our logs etc.

  46. Nickcomplete -- more for group convo's -- first letter/first few letters then + tab and it completes the nick or email

  47. auto-complete function. eg: you type msgplus and a drop down box appears listing whatever you set to it.. Say you set http://www.msgplus.net to it. You type msgplus and choose http://www.msgplus.net from the dropdown box, which then pastes that into your send box in your conversation window waiting for you to press enter or click send.

  48. Stop windows from flashing function, settable to be on, off, only on for certain statuses, off for certain statuses..etc..

  49. Option to completely hide MSN Messenger from taskbar, taskbar and systray, systray, or replace the image as it usually does when using boss protection.

  50. More functions for MSN Messenger lock while using the same secret question and answer to recover its password too.

  51. Password protect prefrences and possibly MSN Messenger prefrences.. with the same secret question and answer to recover password if lost.

  52. Ability to remove encryption of files with password. Mainly useful for OLD logs as Messenger Plus! will not detect them and decrypt them if its a new installation and if you didn't decrypt your logs before installing Messenger Plus!

  53. Add more tags...

  54. Ability to ignore all messages from a contact (server-side) before it gets to the client.

  55. A block timer...or just a timer alias/tag/command..

  56. Colour popup on ctrl + k in the name change dialog in MSN Options

  57. Reverse list, Allow List and Block List, in contact manager

  58. Logs with colours and emoticons actually showing. Whilst also have a non-formatted log..which may increase system space use >.<

  59. Mail logs..may be a problem if you get spammed or mail bombed though >.<

  60. New's feeder so Patchou can inform us of the latest news and updates revolving around the MSN Messenger community.

  61. Ability to add timestamps to your chat windows.

  62. Integrated plugin downloader and installer.

  63. Emoticon creator...dream on =P

  64. Auto lock MSN Messenger after x minutes/seconds

  65. Auto hide MSN Messenger after x minutes/seconds (like Boss Protection)

  66. Ping server to ensure response..like MSN Proxy..by mrhuge.

  67. Auto sign in as <status>..

  68. Make Messenger Plus! a proxy as well as an add-on for Messenger.

  69. Preserve most recent MSN Status when disconnected/kicked off server.

  70. Quick switch of accounts

Most of these are probably not doable..but hey..they are great idea's =)

@ Evilseph!

Well, i like some of ur ideas

RE: What feature do you want? by Walker on October 5th, 2003 at 05:28 pm

It maybe would be usefull if remote users could send commands
to messenger and it would autoreply on that command, not
that the current user on messenger executes a command.
Like autoreply but it will send back choosen command
For example if the remote user wants to see what song your
playing, he could just type /xnpsong and it will execute /xnpsong
on the messenger without interaction from user. A form of remote control. If u know what i mean

RE: What feature do you want? by EvilSeph on October 5th, 2003 at 05:48 pm

Not bad, but it would be better if its password protected.

Yea i agree otherwise you could be spamed quite easily without the other person knowing...
maybe it should say in the event log who sent the remote command or something...
or you could set it to come up with a dialog or something saying who sent the command...
that would make it more secure

Its like a double protection feature ...
anyway.. hope it gets added

RE: What feature do you want? by eXoenDo on October 6th, 2003 at 01:31 am

Heres some more features from me :

/msg <groupname> (Text) alias, so everyones email isnt exposed in a group message (Such as when I told everyone I was gonna be out for the night and Will didnt want his email exposed )
Logon Flood Protection -- Restrict Popups for users who log on x times in x minutes.  (Replace x with Optional Variables in Preferences)
Plus! Icon Next to Cam Icon (if Plus! Present) -- I know its impossible, we already discussed this, but heh!!
An Always On Top Conversation Feature -- Keep one conversation on top of all other windows!
A Special "Color Chooser" for the /me Command -- Change the other users ENTIRE /me text color, instead of everything after your name!
Example:
Before>> Dane Smith waves
After >> Dane Smith waves

Thats all for now !

Can you make this?
Like MSN Messenger will save other email account (Not password) and you can choose any email acc and type your password and log in! Just like MSN Messenger at XP... Cuz my sis and other of my family use MSN Messenger so it will be annoying to keep typing your email again and again...

PS: I'm not using XP so I need this functon. Will you do it? Thanks!

Exactly like an html marquee, that can show your incoming messages from different contacts (including smilies?). Heres an example...

(My graphics are crap, i'm sure Patchou could make it look a lot better )

The picture of the green msn guy can be used to show your contact list, or whatever, and remember that the messages are the ones people are sending you (could be combined with the event viewer to show events aswell) and will scroll accross the bar at a slow(ish) speed.

i like this idea a lot, it would be very useful to me.. but is it do-able?  also, pop3 toasts would be excellent idea

I'f got ideas too

1: choose your status if you will login

2: see you own creatid smilies in popup

3: a groupblocker

4: an automaticly blockchecker

5: remove things of the menu  en after you can sat back if you want

please make this things in msn plus!

example:

[just ignore the DP ]

RE: What feature do you want? by donCarlos on October 6th, 2003 at 11:36 am

Patchou

What would be really cool would be to add transparency to the notification box that appears above the task tray when someone signs on.  Outlook 2003 supports it - and it's less obtrusive than a solid box.

yeah indeed, that wouldn't harm your privacy if it already didn't in the first place wenn you don't have the option to turn it on/off

btw wenn is the poll comming?
RE: What feature do you want? by Patchou on October 6th, 2003 at 01:30 pm

the "got Plus!" feature could be nice, I just considered it again and sorry but it's still a no. The only good way I would have would be to send a message to my server to say "this user@hotmail.com" has installed (or uninstalled) Plus!. If I do that, the week after you'll see posts saying that I'm collecting the emails of all my users to send spam.

However, as you are insisting a lot about that, I'm going to do something similar for the next version... I'll add a Ping command (a real one, built-in the software, not the plugin demo). If you use it, the other computer will respond automatically so you'll know if the user has Plus!. Plus! will then register this information in the special Contact Profile the new version of Plus! has (just type /info to see it).

That won't work, because there could be several people using the same computer with different accounts (siblings, parents,...) and if one of them (un)installs Plus! you have to update that info for all of them in your server. And also there are people how sign in in several computers, some of them with Plus! and others without it (like me, when I use linux or I'm at the university) so sometimes they have Plus! and sometimes not.

It should be each time a contact signs in, Plus! should sent that message and it'd be a lot of trafic. Also I don't like that idea, people would say Patchou stoles emails.

Thanks but make it be automatic, without the user interaction. Let's say (as an example) when a contact signs in (or better, when he/she opens a window to talk to the user) Plus! will send that "ping" automacically and update the contact profile each time.

Remember what I said before, people can have Plus! one day and the other day don't have it, and that fact should be noted and updated in the contact profile.

RE: What feature do you want? by flopperman on October 6th, 2003 at 05:01 pm

Feature: Computer depended Friendly Name

I'm using the Messenger + MsgPlus both at home and at work. It would be nice that MsgPlus set my friendly name every time I log on from one off these locations:

e.g:
---
Every time I log on from my home computer the Friendly Name is set to:

flopperman (@Home)

and every time I log on at work the Friendly name is set to:

flopperman (@Work)
---

This could be an Advanced Setting (Registry). If the value is set in the Registry the Friendly Name is updated on the Messenger Server at log on. Perhaps with the option to reset to a "default" name (e.g. flopperman) when logging off.

I hope this feature finds it way into a not too distant version of the MsgPlus

I don't know if I'm still at time, but...

Could you make a slight modification to the log's header? Instead of cutting the first part of the participants names (i.e. "...watching John Doe (xxx@hotmail.com)"), could you make MP cut the last part (i.e. "lopardo | watching... (xxx@hotmail.com)")? Because it makes the participant detection more difficult for my log viewer (and to read it too). Thanks.

Hey i also just thought of somethign i had troubles with and one was if i had the same contact on two msn's it would do say my contacs name was 1.@hotmail.com well one log would be 1@hotmail.com.txt and the otehr 1@hotmail(1).txt so mabey a seperate folder for each log also event loging for a certain person so on the chat window it woudl say event log and you coould enable it/disable it

RE: What feature do you want? by epicorn on October 7th, 2003 at 01:15 am

Hey. A feature that i think would be useful is a plug-in that detects if the user has plus or not..as it would be useful as if u might want to use a format that only plus supports. Also maybe a variable name, so that if the person has plus they see the colourful and formatted named and if they dont they would see a reguler nick. Thats all i gotta say and im in favour for the POP3 pop-ups too. Thnkz Patchou and keep up the good work!

RE: What feature do you want? by Patchou on October 7th, 2003 at 02:44 am

lol, are you crazy? so what you want is a feature that sends a "Ping?" to everyone you're talking to everytiem you open a chat? if I do that, you'll be blocked pretty quickly because even if Plus! hides it, people who don't have it would be pretty annoyed about that.

So it's a no. I jsut worked all day on a Ping feature and the associated "Plus! detection" window... it's very easy, you just need to open the info window (/info) and click on the "Check for Plus!" button.. it sends and verify the ping automatically. This window stores the information and display if the user has Plus! or not (along with the date of last check).

People who have different computers and don't have Plus! installed (or not installed) on both are exceptions.

RE: What feature do you want? by AustinM1983 on October 7th, 2003 at 02:51 am

to ping or not to ping that is the question

first i thought making plus itself send a small packet to each user to see if they had plus... then i thought of all thoughs ppl without plus and there firewalls going nuts when they get sent this packet.

so i thought well y not enable a custom emotion to be added onto the end of the plus users nick name or the start of the says:

this need only be on the 1st comment a user makes... and in plus option's you could turn it off if you want.

i.e.

AustinM1983
says:

(edit) ok forget what i just typed hear then

For people who don't have Plus! installed a message telling about Plus! (like "You don't have Plus! installed, you can donload it at www.msgplus.net" (of course in the language of the seleccted translation)) should be displayed. Poeple who have Plus! installed shouldn't notice anything, or at least, shouldn't see any i.message (maybe they can see and event in the event window like "your_contact@hotmail.com has cheched if you had Plus! installed")

Don't agree with that, this would be almost spam.
Maybe if you could edit the message yourself in the prefs?

why not doing it like micro$oft is doing with the webcam thingy?.. don't know how that works, but it has something to with also pinging... and nobody has troubles with it...

RE: What feature do you want? by Wabz on October 7th, 2003 at 08:56 am

Heres my idea excuse me for not reading the whole thread

Right When you hide the window frame in messenger 6.1 you lose the plus tag as well which is inconvienient as you have to show the frame again when you need to use plus feature

what I sugguest is that next to the launch site you add a plus menu

Well, in that case put an option to display:
- the text the other user sends in case of not having plus!
or
- a personal text
or
- nothing, and only notify it at the events window

I agree with that. Once Patchou said he won't never hide the Plus! menu because that could be used to log and spy conversations of people and they didn't notice. Now with msg 6.1 you can hide the menu bar, so that button would be usefull: 1sr you'll notice plus is installed and 2nd it would be like a shortcut to Plus! features.

btw, this is my 666th post
RE: What feature do you want? by j.g.allen on October 7th, 2003 at 11:39 am

Hi, just an idea here.

In msn 6 we can see that there is a webcam icon in the corner of your IM window. It would be good if we could have a plus icon so that we know if the person has plus or not.

Again
Just an idea

RE: What feature do you want? by Tpgn007 on October 7th, 2003 at 11:45 am

Would this ping feature be 'backward compatible'? I.e. also detect a Plus! version lower than the one which has this feature built in?

RE: What feature do you want? by CookieRevised on October 7th, 2003 at 01:00 pm

I think not... unless plus had always some hidden feature like this we didn't know of ... shame on you, Patchou

RE: What feature do you want? by Patchou on October 7th, 2003 at 01:39 pm

na, the Ping feature won't unfortunately be backward compatible. But with the auto-update, a good proportion of my users will update their version in the weeks after the release so it should be ok.

As for the plus icon being displayed in the interface, for now I won'y as I know some people would'nt like it depending on the skin they are using. And typing "/info" doesn't take much time does it? . The Ping/Pong request is visible and not hidden... I don't like doing things people don't see. If the user doesn't have Plus! installed, Messenger Plus! asks you once if you want to send it to him.

Any other concerns about the ping command should be put in a new thread I guess

Yes it works very well, but it woulkd be better if you could manage your messenger accounts and stup them to sign in automatically with no-problem, maybe setup the boss-protection to work without confflicts, and the chat logging sve your logs in more than one folder... one for each msn account.

i have some ideas for patchou about the away messages

  • i think that you should be able to sent different away messages to different people, but still have a general message.

  • i think you should be able to edit the current away message without changing your status to online then back to away.
    [Edit]:not using messagese

  • i think the "expected time of return" part should say somthing more then just [12:00:00], because people without msg plus don't know what that means.

  • i think you should be able to have msg plus sent a message to somone as soon as they come online, insted of just when they send you a message.

  • i think the max number of message should be 40 not 20

I get what you're saying. The icon/button thing won't match the skin theme, but you could make it so you can turn on/off the Plus! icon/button, like in the perferences have, "Show I have Plus!" and you could make it so when the person installs Plus that option is unchecked so it doesn't look like it's recommended.
RE: What feature do you want? by BooGhost on October 7th, 2003 at 10:17 pm

how bout a option like the [ url=http://mess.be]Mess.be[ /url] for plus like http://mess.beMess.be then You'll see in the IM window Mess.be. wich would be a link to http://mess.be

just thinking of this (and chatting a lil bit ) gave me another idea, what bout quick text with (!****) as alias, so you can put them in any part of a message

RE: What feature do you want? by jadev on October 8th, 2003 at 01:03 am

yeah indeed an option to turn off/on the icon, so wenn you don't like it, you can disable it .. in this way everybody is satisfied
RE: What feature do you want? by Choli on October 8th, 2003 at 05:48 am

(about the ping feature) I'm sure you, Patchou, have thought about this:

  • When user1 sends a ping request to user2, user2's Plus! updates the last time user1 was checked if he has Plus!, ie: it's like if user2 had sent a ping to user1, too.
  • Make that feature in a way that, for future releases, Plus! can say what version a contact has, even if it's newer.
I mean: user1 has 2.50, user2 has 2.60 and user3 has 2.70. Then, when user2 sends a ping to user1, he can see that user1 has an older version, and user1 knows that there is a new version.
If user2 sends ping to user3, he sees that user3 has a new version (there is a new version), and user3 updates the contact's information with the version user2 has.

I hope you understand me.

*Custom avatar settings, y'know, like custom avatars depending  on your status and stuff.

*Auto-rotating of avatars (E.G. change avatar every so many mins from a list or folder)

*An avatar/emoticon stealer (Yeah, I know a seperate program exists that does this, but a built in one would be handy)

*User notifications - Sort of, an option to notify you if a particular person changes their status, like say you wanted to talk to someone, but they were away, or busy, you could just select their name and as soon as it changes, Plus! will notify you, even by just opening a chat window ir whatever...

Odin.EXE think that Patchou didn't read his idea

Can you make this?
Like MSN Messenger will save other email account (Not password) and you can choose any email acc and type your password and log in! Just like MSN Messenger at XP... Cuz my sis and other of my family use MSN Messenger so it will be annoying to keep typing your email again and again...

PS: I'm not using XP so I need this functon. Will you do it? Thanks!

I post it again! I really need this function!

Thats a good idea...
Plus should also count all messages starting with '/' as a command and not message it like mirc

Unless you press [SHIFT][ENTER] instead of just [ENTER] (Also, just like in mIRC)
------
As for the copy/paste: Don't copy/paste CR/LF's then, otherwise use notepad for that... (If you copy paste something without CR/LF it will not be send automaticly)

It's Ctrl + Enter in Mirc not Shift + Enter

I have a suggestion that I posted a while back in another thread. I would really like to see a statistics function in Msg+, maybe with some or all of the following stats:

Online time overall:
Online time current:
Longest online session:
Average time online:
Most popular weekday (online time):
Most popular weekday (keystrokes):
Most popular time of day (online time):
Most popular time of day (keystrokes):

Contact most online/ Top 5 contacts online:
Contact largest logfile/ Top 5 largest logfiles:
Contact most keystrokes/ Top 5 keystrokes:

The source of this information could come from the log-files I guess?
In the the far out version of this plug-in one could even imagine an algorithm that could calculate when a contact is most likely to be online from the data collected...

hi,

here's my idea

how about a feature which allows us to change the font color of the contact names or personalized contact names in the contact list?

maybe that seems impossible
but, who knows?

thx

RE: What feature do you want? by axemaster on October 9th, 2003 at 05:39 pm

i dont know how dumb this will sound but what would be very useful (for me at least) would be an msn clipboard (along the lines of the event log floater) which can hold more than one copied/cut text piece at a time... this would be for, if it has ever happened to you where you write something, the other person sends while you are still typing, i.e. a question, you cut what you wrote before, andswer the question, then paste and send back to the original point.

dunno if i explained that right ... s'the best i can manage

Exactly , I use that command to change my nick everyday cuz its convenint , you dont have to open the options panel , and it makes format codes easy to insert (if you've memorized them all like me
That's precisely why there is a /nick command

RE: What feature do you want? by BooGhost on October 9th, 2003 at 06:35 pm

you fucked up everything

yeah it's true but the /nick command adds a (ctrl-o) at the end

another suggestion... when you type use the /msg or /im, do they work with Custom Names?

btw i made it work myself (thanks to StuffPlug and Talkers )

RE: What feature do you want? by lopardo on October 9th, 2003 at 09:54 pm

PATCHOU FIX THIS BUG, PLEASE!!!

And one suggestion too:
Could you make a registry entry (or an option) to set what program to use in order to open logs? So, by default you could leave notepad, and then the user could change it to my log viewer
(it would simplify the process of opening encrypted logs with my program)

RE: What feature do you want? by Patchou on October 9th, 2003 at 10:12 pm

lopardo2003: please do not post three tiem the same message, I read everything, even when I don't reply.

As for your suggestion, that's not a valid one.. I can't do something somply because it simplifies the coding of your software . If names are right aligned it's preceisely to be helpful: that way, you're sure to always get the email of the contacts.

But couldn't you just cut the last part of the name, leaving the e-mail address? (That's an easy thing to do, even for me ). For my program recognition, I don't need the e-mail, I just need a part of the name, starting from the beginning (Remember it processes saved logs files). Even if you don't use my Log Viewer, cutting the last part makes difficult to understand who is who, that's the main reason for my suggestion.

Thanks Patchou

Plus! 3 by crebezze on October 10th, 2003 at 01:04 pm

Hello, Patchou.

I'm wondering:
Couldn't you just better call it Messenger Plus! 3?
Then persons using the older version would be more interessed to download this NEW version...
If you work with 2.XX.XX then users will think:
MMMHHHHH, I still have version number 2, so no update is needed...

I believe you would then get A LOT more NEW users also.
And besides, Plus! 3 doesn't even sound bad

Ps: I mailed you about a Flemish version,no reply recieved yet...
(Short: i can translate it 2 flemish (Vlaams) if you want...
It's not the same as "Nederlands...)

You can forget that; Patchou considers it to be a dialect, and he won't include those. Besides, Flemish people can read Dutch.

Answer:

Flemish is NO Dutch and it is certainly NOT a DIALECT
Patchou: We are a COUNTRY, not just a STUPID dialect of those Hollandisch people!
Belgium=/=Holland

This is realy discrimination, I'm sorry
Ps: Its not because I understand the language somethimes,
that all people do...
We from belgium are good at languages, otherwise you wouldn't have had ANY user from Belgium,
except for the Walonisch part, they can take French

1) /me wonders what Plus 3 would be about
2) Belgium is indeed a country, and there are indeed much diff. between dutch from the netherlands and dutch from belgium (completly other words/sayings/etc..., not just spelling-diff. like UK english en US english), but I don't dare to open that topic again, so I shut up on this... (ps. I'm Belgian)
3) Anyway

Try to sort out your nick-reconition problem with the truncates as it is... Don't count on Patchou to change this, just for your log-viewer. Another possibility is to ask Patchou (I don't know if this is possible, but I think it is)... to ask patchou if he adds an identifier in front of the timestamp (or line, if there are no timestamps):
eg: 01[21:59:43] Cookie: Hello, world
eg: 03[21:59:43] * Cookie is now busy
eg: 07[21:59:43] * Cookie has changed his/her name to CookieBoo
eg: 09[21:59:43] Transfer of "picture.gif" is complete
eg: 15[21:59:43] Princess@hotmail.com is added to the conversation
eg: 04[21:59:43] Cookie auto-message: I'm not here...

So, the type of line is identified by these 2 numbers. Then this can also be used/denied by other log-viewers, etc...

Patchou: if you know what I mean

hmm...something came to mind as i was looking @ the event log...how about options to enable/disable specific notifications such as local user n/name changes? the thought comes as i was looking through 4x addons and there were periodic n/name changers...itd be kinda annoying to see (Current User): Has changed their name to [whatever] every few seconds...
this need not apply to just local user n/name changes, options for...umm..everything would be good ...
i like the event logger logging stuff, and i dont really want to disable it, just in case anyone wanted to suggest that to me

Has anyone tried the latest emule that hosts a web page on ur comp and alows remote users to log in as users or admin and view stats and control certian elements. That would be cool, but i dont think that its suitable for plus. Two things:
Firstly why not drop the log support? xml is far more readable and flexible than txt other than the encryption, which u could try and implement into the default xml logs.
Secondly i agree with everything that patchou has said in the past, until the statment about the plus button next to the cam, it is a good idea and no1 would acuse u of selling on info, u are one of the most respected people on the web i know. but wether its doable or not is a different matter

RE: What feature do you want? by Tycoontje on October 12th, 2003 at 03:57 pm

- Could you have the conversation window dimensions and coords remembered per contact? (Until recently I used Trillian, which remembered this and I'm missing this right now).

- I think the select/copy function needs improving, especially with urls. I just got an url and didn't want to open it directly, as it would be opened in Mediaplayer. I wanted to download it instead. So I thought I would just select and copy. I was wrong
What it did was sometimes open the file anyway, when I was done selecting. Or when I got the chance to chose "copy", it didn't copy it! (Not as text anyway, because I couldn't paste it!)
Besides, selecting seems nearly impossible. You can only start selecting from the line where it says "<contact> says:". Not just before the url. And not afterwards/backwards either. Pretty strange behaviour for a Windows program. Is is fixable?

I'n not really sure but i think that when you install the sponsor, and then uninstall plus! to remove the sponsor you have to restart the PC in order to really remove it.
and i'm almost sure also that Plus!, or the sponsor program, doesn't ask you to restart it, so it would be nice, i think, that MsgPlus! asked you to restart when uninstalling after having the sponsor installed......

yeah i like it also that way (matty's), but patchou said something that it would not look nice if you have a skin and some people don't like it at all and he wants everyody sitisfied so i was thinking... somebody who uses skins can find such a icon ugly, but if we can choose which icon we prefer (just like in boss protection) and an on/off option for show icon yes/no it should be ok with everybody isn't?

RE: What feature do you want? by NoName on October 13th, 2003 at 12:19 pm

Not all of it will be put in but some of the POSSIBLE , USEFUL , and LEGAL things that people suggest might get its way in. Patchou said it should be released in late october

I can't wait until it's out.

This isn't an important feature, but could quick-keys to the shared files option be made? So I could say go "/s1" and it sends the file I have in share slot one.

Find and replace for incoming/outgoing messages.

e.g.
Outgoing:
brb > I'll be right back
Incoming: spam > (nothing)

Also:

/exit command in an instant message window to close MSN Messenger (so it is not in the system tray)

And: Option to sign in with the Appear Offline status (I know that there is already software available that does this).

If you accept to go on cam there are way you could be recored. The way I see it is, if you press accept you agree to be seen, etc. Anyways if we could record video convos that would take quite a bit of space.

That would be sweet!

By the way is this compatible with the MSN 9 Beta Messenger and if it is not compatibility with it would be great I'm in that beta just don't have the CD yet.

MSN 9 is a explorer, not a messenger

i think this two featurs could make msn messenger cooler:
1.- That personals smiles can be put on the nickname and everybudy on the list could see it
2.- That the nicknames could be longer (more words) cause some people put lyrics and it doesnt have enough space to put the lyrics

Thank you for the 420 posts of ideas . The thread is now closed as I've finished the major updates of Messenger Plus! 2.50. I hope you'll all like the result!
