New public version - here it is! - Printable Version

New public version - here it is! by Patchou on February 18th, 2003 at 01:32 am

Hello!

finally, I release the new public version. Everyone: update your mirrors! there is many many updates in it compared to the last version, everyone wants to benefit from it. I uploaded the new temporary site for Messenger Plus!, soon it will be available at http://msgplus.patchou.com or http://www.msgplus.net .

New version current link: http://pages.infinit.net/patchou8/MsgPlus.exe (version 2.02.23)

Updates done since version 2.01.17:

  • Action messages + emoticon bug fixed (yes, again )
  • Fixed /clear bug with emoticons
  • Fix shortcuts in Plus! menus (yeah, Shine rules lol)
  • Fix error when a (!FC) or (!FG) tag is not properly closed
  • Added /PersoStat command to display the Personalised Status window
  • Deactivate Commands option works properly now
  • Added an option in the Quick Texts to insert a text instead of sending it automatically
  • No more vertical blue line when displaying the Messenger 5 contact window
  • Added an option in the Various window of the Preferences to remove the Share button from the IM windows toolbar
  • You can exit Personalised Status mode by using a command to change your status even if it's the same (for example, to exit
  • Personalised Status in Away mode, you can do /away).
  • Fixed some problems related to Messenger 5 and Windows XP (such as contacts not showing in the Contact Manager).
  • Special Tags are parsed correctly when using a Quick Text alias
  • Popup windows such as the Personalised Status get the focus when they are displayed
  • No, you're not dreaming, it finally happened.... using the (!IP) tag displays all you're IPs... very useful when you have a local network
  • Added a security measure to avoid flooding using Quick Text shortcuts
  • Ctrl+O with Ctrl+K works better now.
  • No more crash when you play with Contact Sound preferences while signed out.
  • You can now associate a sound for when a contact signs out.
  • Messenger shouldn't crash anymore when exiting a chat window. Please let me know if it does.
  • The "Contact has changed his name" event now correctly displays the old name
  • Corrected a bug that prevented some contacts to be recorded by the Contact Manager
  • Added a /run command to execute programs or display web pages.
  • As promised, there is now a new option for archiving logs by creating a different directory for each contact. By default a new file is created every month. However this can be completely customized using the ArchiveFileFormat registry parameter.
  • Chat sessions in log files are always properly separated. Also, there will be no ansi/unicode mix anymore (could completely mess up your log files when changing encoding method).
  • You can now specify MP3 files for your Contact Sounds. In fact, MP2 now supports any kind of file that your sound card drivers natively supports.
  • Emoticons are displayed correctly when using Truncate Contact Name in conjunction with multi-format tags in the name.
  • POP emails are checked only when signed in.
  • Fixed problems related to signing-in with different users without exit Messenger.
  • Contact Name column in Contact Manager is now cut in two columns: name and email.
  • You can now use the Space and Backspace keys in shortcut controls.
  • No more crash when sending a lot of carriage returns.
  • New Easter Egg, find it
  • A lot of several fixes and other improvements.

If you find any important problem in this new version, please let me know before wednesday as auto-update will be available by that time. Again, thank you for your usual support... official shirts and mugs of Messenger Plus! are on their way... start saving $20 right now and be cool for spring hehe

Patchou, I tried both the website links you put in your first post, and the first one asks for a username, password & domain?

Am I to assume that the site isn't running right now then?

RE: New public version - here it is! by Patchou on February 18th, 2003 at 02:24 am

RE: New public version - here it is! by Tandy on February 18th, 2003 at 07:13 am

please im so dumb

i dont know the easter egg
please someone tell me

i have no idea

RE: New public version - here it is! by [white]shark on February 18th, 2003 at 07:40 am

You are not dumb! I dunno if anyone gets the whole "easter egg" thught. An easter egg is a joke, small game or window a programmer puts in his favorite creation that is not meant to be found so easily. In some cases he has to leak the information himself in the end because it is to well hidden. It is not a button you have to press in preferences or something.

maybe it has something to do with the auto-away messages.. You can try to fill in "I'll be back" in the Away msg.. (I haven't tried, i'll leave it all up to you )

Easter Egg revealed by Timothy on www.mess.be

RE: New public version - here it is! by Patchou on February 18th, 2003 at 09:39 am

hahaha... I knwo some people who went editing my program to find the easter egg... too bad for them, there are better hiden than that... so for everyone who already went to mess.be, just for you to know, if you want to deactivate the easter egg, type /sconfig. For the other commands related to the easter egg.... I won't tell you their name or their number, maybe later .

Concerning opening your pop mail client instead of hotmail, you have to do the modification in the registry... go in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Patchou\MsgPlus2\your@mail.com\Preferences and create a string value named "PopMailClient" containing the path to the software you want to be opened when you click on the mail link in the contact window.

What the fuck ---  MP2 = MPEG Layer Two

Might I add you if MsgPlus 2 is also labeled as MP2
And if we cant use MP3 - then what the hell are we doing calling Msg Plus 2, MP2.

So by that idea - MsgPlus 2 cant really be called MP2 due to the fact MP2 was taken by MPEG Layer 2...

So why the hell wont be a MsgPlus 3??????
Sorely due to the fact of the nick name MP3 may breach the name of MP3...
RE: New public version - here it is! by Patchou on February 19th, 2003 at 11:05 am

lol, you know, if I had to do a Messenger Plus! 3, I think that the MP3 acronym would be the last of my problems . And, please, as it took me 5 monthes of continuous work to create MP2, I would like you to enjoy it as it is currently and let me play to some games on me PlayStation 2 lol .  The next major update will probably be the final public release with multi-language support.

Sometimes the easteregg sounds aren't played (I think when an other sound is played, like the standard "contact-online" sound).
Isn't it possible that mp2 plays the sound always, also if another sound is played?

nah, I think that's the built in anti flooding feature. you have to wait 10 secs before you can play another easter egg sound...

now i know iv been told off for this before coz i posted a easter egg ages back, well most peps have now, so who cares

    so far i have

    /patchou
    /shello (I think this is number 7)
    /sdoh (I think this is number 4)
    /skiss (I think this is number 13)
    /sbrb (I think this is number 10)
    /sconfig
    /sevillaugh (I think this is number 4)

The reason i think this is this came up in a conversation once:

    $4I'm so stupid!
    #7Hello you!
    %13I love you

RE: New public version - here it is! by beowulf on February 20th, 2003 at 03:42 pm

Don't the numbers refer to font colour?

RE: New public version - here it is! by MenthiX on February 20th, 2003 at 03:46 pm

    Yeah....

... you will see the numbers if you havent got any version of Plus! 2 installed.

Yes, they do. And there are no more Easter eggs.

RE: New public version - here it is! by dlfranks on February 20th, 2003 at 05:36 pm

yes guess ya rite, actually as soon as i posted that other message i relised about the font things, felt a bit stupid really. So your sure there is just 5 sound ones?! mabe you should make an option to make your own and we sent them to patchou or send them to peps so it will sound on there comps.

Must admit MP2 is the best, i flick between MSN Messenger with plus! extension and dmsn messnger (www.dmsn.nl) its 10 times better than MSN Messnger fully customizable with all the plus! features (ALL!!!!!!!!!) but plus! is brill well done.

RE: New public version - here it is! by Patchou on February 20th, 2003 at 05:56 pm

Yes there are only 5 sounds . And no you are not allowed to use the sound IDs yourself. use the sound commands lol... damn spy

RE: New public version - here it is! by TheFes on February 21st, 2003 at 09:12 am

uhm my sounds are also fucked up.. is it maybe because the version on mess.be isn't good?..

    [edit]
i tried some other versions, but still no good sounds, the kiss isn't good (very short) the hello ends too soon en the brb is just some scratching sound.. I am using win2k, but on another winxp systems it does the same

and next time i'll read some topics first

RE: New public version - here it is! by Patchou on February 21st, 2003 at 12:07 pm

It seems that a lot of people have problems listening to the sounds.. in the next version I'll reencode them so you shouldn't have any problem anymore.

El Toro: good suggestions, I'll probably lower the delay to 6 seconds.

RE: New public version - here it is! by JamesB009 on February 21st, 2003 at 02:21 pm

    Thnx patchou.

Does that also mean that in the next version the sounds are no longer mp3? Maybe .wav ore someting?

(sorry fr my bad english...but i'm from holland...and writing english isn't my strongest )

Why did you included that Plus! emoticon ??

    use : plus2 :

RE: New public version - here it is! by chrisbloe on February 22nd, 2003 at 03:08 pm

Can I suggest that in the next version, there will be a way of checking which version on Plus! (if any) the people you are talking to have got?

This would make things a lot easier, as I would then know if I should use the sound commands ect. or not.

Do you (Patchou) intend to add ne more sounds in the next build?

looks like i'm about a week late, but I have updated my mirror http://www.gillard.plus.com/mp2/ (file name is MP2023.exe to help me keep track of files etc).
damn my school work keeping me from this forum :

RE: New public version - here it is! by JamesB009 on February 22nd, 2003 at 04:48 pm

Is there a way to see what kind of MSN the other user have?
And IF the user has plus!?

RE: New public version - here it is! by Patchou on February 22nd, 2003 at 04:59 pm

Next version will have a (!VER) tag

RE: New public version - here it is! by fluffy_lobster on February 22nd, 2003 at 05:07 pm

But if they don't have Plus won't they see the tag?  What about a button which adds a tag to your name and gets rid of it instantly, so that the Plus event log picks it up?  It could also do it when someone who hasn't been online during one of those comes online, so everyone in you contact list gets it.
    Just a thought

if no, when will it be avaible in french ??

    Thanks

RE: New public version - here it is! by sock on February 22nd, 2003 at 08:04 pm

Hey neophil, currently Messenger Plus! has not been translated into French yet, because it is still in its Beta stage. When the final version is released (in a few weeks?), Messenger Plus! will be available in many languages including French. In the meanwhile, we just have to wait....

thanks but can u put it that there is still some thing showing ur hotmail email and something to show ur pop3 so u can click on that goes to hotmail another one for pop3 (anyone which knows english please put this in english)

First of all I'd like to thank you because of the great version that you made, I read the info about it and it seemed extremly cool. I've only have one question, what shall I do to install it, because when I excecute the installer, it sends me to a page under construction, that, at the same time sends me to this forum. I don't want to boder, but I would like to try your new versión, thanks!!

The installation is very fast, and it sends you to the Plus!2 site once its finished. You probably installed it already and didn't realise, have a look and see if the Plus! menu is there at the top of the Messenger window.

    Very nice easter egg

RE: New public version - here it is! by Sythler on March 4th, 2003 at 08:22 pm

I'm just kidding. I may have found the egg(s) but I have a question to know if I did. Is the "easter egg" an actual egg thing or are they just secrets that you can do in msg plus? Thanks

hey i just noticed a bit slow me but it still says betta but it says public ver on this am a lil confused

RE: New public version - here it is! by WDZ on March 4th, 2003 at 10:47 pm

It's a public beta. When it's not a beta anymore, it'll be called final...

...really, I thought patchou is gonna reselase one more Beta version before the Final version, but cool
RE: New public version - here it is! by Mnjul on March 7th, 2003 at 07:48 am

I think Patchou will release another beta for translators, since he said "Final version will be in multi-languages", not "Multi-languages function will be available after Final version released."

RE: New public version - here it is! by Wabz on March 7th, 2003 at 06:37 pm

I think theres still room for a couple more betas yet I'm sure theres still two bugs in the software ones an issue with windows 98 start up and ones an issue with remote assitance under windows xp

RE: New public version - here it is! by dom. on March 8th, 2003 at 07:26 pm

No Patchou said, he will begin the translation process when the final version is completed, not released completed.

RE: New public version - here it is! by Wabz on March 8th, 2003 at 07:37 pm

Yeha completed seems to be the obvious time to translate although ya could start to translate bits now like

    Patchou is a god

*trying to get into good books*

RE: New public version - here it is! by JoeFri on March 9th, 2003 at 12:21 am

I am new here, this thing is cool.  I already have a few of my friends hooked on it.  This is what Messanger needed.

RE: New public version - here it is! by Mnjul on March 15th, 2003 at 04:22 am

Please, dont ask that.. If Patchou says a release date then he is forced to bring it out on that date.. (or a few days later..) and that no goood for MP!2..

Please, Please.. People do not ask about release-dates anymore.. If you do it might be bad for MP!2.. and for Patchou
RE: New public version - here it is! by t94xr on March 15th, 2003 at 10:31 am

    hey lets not forget Fraisie??
shez the one who has to put with a 'driven crazy from people asking about release dates, and now needs expensive professional help' Patchou...

RE: New public version - here it is! by NameRemoved1 on March 15th, 2003 at 10:35 am

I totally agree with you PlusFan.......
A release date only puts more pressure on Patchou and that is definitely not good for MP2......

For now, we should be grateful for what we already have which is better than what we expected......

RE: New public version - here it is! by Mnjul on March 15th, 2003 at 10:36 am

Fraisie: Patchou, if you're not gonna release MP2 by tomorrow, I'll break up with you!

    wow

don't do that Fraisie we all need a well-designed Messenger add-on.
