You don't have to change your laptop. Switching to Windows 7 won't cause more problems and it will enable you to use the new Messenger. Tabbed Chat disables shake to minimise on Windows 7
I use this feature in Windows 7 when i shake a window and all the busy windows minimise, shake again they pop back up.
