Yes!! That seems to be the error, my brother just changed his screen depth at home to 16bit, and the icon disappeared. As soon as he changed it back to 32bit, it appeared again. I already did that, but no, it's color depth independant. I tried 15 (which I normally use), 16 and 24 bit. No icon.
