Winamp song for nick by lumos on 07-20-2003 at 11:53 AM
I know this has been discussed before but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I'm looking for a plugin that allows you to INSERT current Winamp 2.x song title in your nick. i.e. you get to choose where it's placed and stuff. eg. [nick part 1] [ winamp song] [nick part 2]. If there isn't such a plugin, is there one that even allows the current song to be displayed in your nick. The only ones i've seen allow you to change winamp track and stuff from inside a convo. Also, has a plugin been developed that lets the thing auto update whenever the track changes?
Any help would be appreciated, and if this has already been made, could you please post the link here. Thanks
EDIT: ok problem mostly solved...now someone go make one that auto-updates! im sure some of you brilliant people can somehow figure it out lol
RE: Winamp song for nick by Whacko on 07-20-2003 at 12:09 PM
lumos.. the auto-update thing is not possible with current plugin support
RE: Winamp song for nick by lumos on 07-20-2003 at 02:13 PM
blast...what about just one that can insert song in my nick

You mean a sort of modified (!WAT) command ?
RE: Winamp song for nick by lumos on 07-20-2003 at 03:02 PM
well yeah uh something like that. I mean like I wanna be able to insert the song title into whichever PART of my nick that i want, as in i still get to type the other parts of my nick myself, in addition to the song. But before that...i still need to know whether there's even a plugin that allows the song title in your nick to start with...can't find any ATM.

I just tried it and the (!WAT) in combination with other parts of my name. If you just do this: /nick Bla bla (!WAT) Bla Bla.. That works fine or am I not getting this? I don't know if there is a winamp-plugin in production for these "demands" ( maybe sb else? )
RE: Winamp song for nick by lumos on 07-20-2003 at 03:14 PM
ahhh ok i never knew there was a /nick command lol. Thanks very much however this one isnt that useful cuz it isnt self updating haha...i guess that's the next step

I downloaded a plugin for winamp 3, that'll create a txt file including the information about the currently playing song. Then I just made a simple VB exe file, that with a timer, keep on checking for changes in the text file, and if there is any change, that means the song has changed and then it should change my name to <mynick>^Music: <Title>, very simple... But I ain't got any VB codes for msn 6.0 yet... Hoping they wiil be released soon... But it's still cool this plugin thing.. But i'm waiting for some source codes.... If anybody knows anything about them I would be glad to hear from you....
RE: Winamp song for nick by joon on 07-20-2003 at 06:36 PM
u can update ur nick trough a quicktext with an alias
this is what you put in an quick text:
/nick yournick music: (!WAT) blah blah.
alias: /something
and when you type /something ur nick will be updated
RE: Winamp song for nick by lumos on 07-21-2003 at 08:56 AM
ah thanks that's useful
RE: Winamp song for nick by SYNERGiST on 07-22-2003 at 02:36 PM
What you are looking for could be found here...
not some extra txt file etc.
http://silicon.xs4all.nl/x/messenger
works:
windows messenger 4.7x
not working:
windows messenger 5.0 (5.0.0337)
MSN messenger 6.0
Damn good plugin for winamp... hope that he develops it for the others also or maybe i code my own...
Another plugin i just found out...
http://classic.winamp.com/plugins/detail.jhtml?componentId=108475
first one is better because it stores your name this one does not do that
works:
windows messenger 4.7x
windows messenger 5.0 (5.0.0337)
not working:
MSN messenger 6.0
MSN messenger 6.0 uses a different plugin than the older one's that is why they dont work!!!
RE: Winamp song for nick by Lareamond on 07-22-2003 at 03:52 PM
I've been working on one the last couple days... I think I'll release a beta tonight, since I need testers... So far it only supports Winamp 2.x because I don't have Winamp 3... I'll have separate versions for both builds of Winamp after I get Winamp 3 and study the SDK a little (if there is one...)
RE: Winamp song for nick by SYNERGiST on 07-22-2003 at 07:57 PM
sounds cool...
I be happy to beta test for you
What language are you developing in?

RE: Winamp song for nick by SYNERGiST on 07-23-2003 at 08:27 AM
@lumos
http://silicon.xs4all.nl/x/messenger only works for winamp 2.x
dont know about the other one...
but you are right winamp 3.x sucks
If i find some code for MSN 6.0 i see what i could do...
RE: Winamp song for nick by LunarCrisis on 09-17-2003 at 02:33 AM

RE: Winamp song for nick by Animedude on 09-17-2003 at 05:31 AM
winamp 3 has alot of function but making computer speed suffer... winamp 2 is simple and easy to use..
i dont mind testing the plugin
RE: Winamp song for nick by Wouter on 09-17-2003 at 07:14 AM
here this will autmaticly chnage your name when you change a song
its winamp2 en winamp3 supported

when i feel likt it im wil translate this into a msgplugin.
RE: Winamp song for nick by Pete_M on 09-20-2003 at 06:16 PM
Wouter, is that file supposed to work with 6.1 ?

RE: Winamp song for nick by chris on 09-20-2003 at 09:04 PM

RE: Winamp song for nick by Snowshelbi on 09-21-2003 at 05:55 PM
working fine with messenger 6.0 with Mgs Plus! on Winxp pro Sp1. would be cool if u could make it as a plugin for msg plus!, hmm, i think there is a typo....it says "name when NOT listening to an sound"....wouldnt it be "any sound" ?
also, when dbl-clicking on the icon next to the clock area the options dont show up (this isnt too important especially if u ar plannng to integrate it as a plugin)
one weird thing though! for some reason when i ran it it turned the num lock off?! why is that!? actually, i aint sure but ithink every time the song is changed it turn off then on again the num lock! (i have a wireless logitech keyboard, so when the num lock is turned off it displays a text on my screen...)
Edit 1: spoke too early.....got some kinda weird "blabla is offline"....think some people had the same problem.....though this only happened when running messenger AFTER winampmsg..
RE: Winamp song for nick by monty_burns_007 on 09-22-2003 at 06:25 PM
nope it doesn't work on my PC.
the nick doesn't change, it stays the same it was.
i've got win2000
MSN 6.1 (6.1.0114)
MSN plus! 2.21.55
and winamp 2.91
anyone know the solution ?

RE: Winamp song for nick by monty_burns_007 on 09-28-2003 at 01:46 PM
Well, i couldn't wait anymore Wouter, so i just made my own automatic winamp nick changer for MSN.
It works fine on my MSN6.1 and winamp 2.x
i didn't had much time to add much of options, maybe later
just make sure you'v got a nick name then start my tool
the rest will follow
Monty
PS: don't change your current winamp song too much, or MSN will see this as too much traffic for your account

RE: Winamp song for nick by Chris.1 on 10-01-2003 at 01:24 PM
Is there a way to add your currently playing song from Windows Media Player 9 into your nick automatically everytime the song changes?
I currently have a plugin that displays my current playing song on my website (it uploads a txt file onto the webserver which is then included via a php include).
I don't use WinAMP as WMP has a better media library.
Anyone know of anyway to get this as my nick? Or does anyone want to write a plugin todo it?
TIA
Chris
UPDATE: Just ignore this.... I didn't realise there was another thread with a plugin todo this.
RE: Winamp song for nick by Wouter on 10-01-2003 at 04:14 PM

This message appears only when the compiled EXE is used. If the client application is run from the Visual Basic IDE, the problem does not manifest itself. The problem may also be detected as a changing App.NonModalAllowed property in the client EXE project.
Solution: Change the Threading Model value to "Single Threaded" on the ActiveX DLL project's Properties form, on the General tab. Recompile the ActiveX DLL and redeploy into the MTS package.
See Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 233997.
Just for the record: I don't have any idea what it says, I just googled for Run-time error 406 and this came up. Maybe it's helpful to you.
Edit: maybe someone with more programming knowledge can explain this?
RE: Winamp song for nick by Wouter on 10-05-2003 at 08:56 PM
ok try this one
RE: Winamp song for nick by Lareamond on 10-05-2003 at 10:28 PM
Unzipped, DLL registered, registry keys added, msn reloaded, doesn't work. What are the commands (as the /xwinampoptions thingy don't work) or is there a submenu item that displays them?
RE: Winamp song for nick by Animedude on 10-08-2003 at 03:29 AM
i didnt get it in the plugin menu too, and teh command didnt work...
RE: Winamp song for nick by monty_burns_007 on 10-08-2003 at 07:06 PM
Well here it is : V.1.1 of my tool :
For ppl having problems with runtime errors etc...
be sure to have the VB6 runtimes and MSCOMCT2.OCX
This isn't a messenger plus! plugin !! It doesn't require the use of messenger plus! Only MSN v.6.x (6.0, 6.1, ...) and it can work with winamp v.2.x and also v.3.x apparently
Some new feature from V.1.0 to V.1.1 :
Some new features :
- Detects winamp "stopped" "paused" or "playing"
- Save original nickname on "START" and restores the original nickname after "STOP"
- Saves settings in windows registry (so no more reentering initial settings)
- Also possible to add custom text behind the songs name
- Some internal changes in the engine to reduce faulty updates on MSN
- When started and winamp is not found, it starts winamp automatically
- Auto minimize after "START"
- some internal bug fixes ppl kept bugging me about
Have phun with it
Monty
PS: the new release with also be on www.mess.be soon !!
RE: Winamp song for nick by Wouter on 10-08-2003 at 07:46 PM
nice plugin dude
but don't change the name true the api that's anoying when you are chatting
RE: Winamp song for nick by monty_burns_007 on 10-08-2003 at 08:26 PM
Well Wouter,
indeed, i change the name through the normal way, the user would :
that is calling the optionpage of MSN
changing the name and entering
I don't know how else i would have to do it, since there is no API available on changing the MSN nick.
Well i can change the nick but that would disconnect my active MSN connection, since this procedure logs in.
Your tool doesn't work on my PC , how do you change the msn nickname ? Via API or ..... ?
if you have some sample source code perhaps....

RE: Winamp song for nick by chris on 10-10-2003 at 01:22 AM
hey monty_burns_007 i had the most success with yours you should mabey make it hook onto the main window and like tags.
Edit: moty burns i updtated to Xp and got error 430
RE: Winamp song for nick by chris on 10-12-2003 at 12:41 AM
[Wouter] Nice lil tip you might wanna update is that in the version posted in the 2 one from the top the register into the registry is still Sample Vb plugin or whatever it is. Also still dint work for me but thats an error thing.
Edit: [Wouter] was talking about on the page before this one...
Monty you might want to include a readme or something that says that they need windows messenger 5 cuz i updated windows messenger and it works now still think ya should hook it! how about so we can chage the playing text so we can customise it all?
like put 3 boxes in the program and so we can edit them a lil example here
Box 1 Box2 Box3
[Chris - Im Listining to: ] [%winamp%] [.mp3]
then show an example of what it would look like
Chris - Im Listining to: 2pac Hit 'Em Up.mp3
RE: Winamp song for nick by steel on 10-14-2003 at 02:18 PM
hi, i am just new at this but,
is it possible to make a pluggin FOR WINAMP which stores the current song that is playing into a text document then updates it every time the song changes, and in this text document you could also have somthing that says what ststus it is in eg. playing, paused, stopped.
then make a pluggin FOR MSN + which automaticly checks the text document at a fixed time interval say 10 seconds for any changes in it,
then if there is a change in it, it will change your name
i was also thinking, is it possible for an image file (jpeg, gif, ....) to run a script, because you could make a with the picure with the script in it and put that into your name, so that it will run the script every time you sent a message
???
these are just thoughts that might help to make this automaticly updating name work!
RE: Winamp song for nick by chris on 10-16-2003 at 03:40 AM
Hey i jus thought of somethign... you shouldent have to open the options to change your nickname.. think about it when you type /nick (ur nickname) it doesnt open it so there shold be a way to do it without opeing prefrences.. it would have to be an external app tho.

i just downloaded your standalone application, and the plugin, i could get the app to work no probs. but i couldn't get the plugin to work, do you think that you could make an installer for the plugin which does all of the stuff that you need to do to get it to work automaticly?
cheers, Steel!

406 error... may be u should look at that microsoft kb fixes for it...
RE: Winamp song for nick by hilikus12 on 10-18-2003 at 10:29 PM
well, here is the thing, with wouter's plugin my whole system freezes when i open winamp, a "debug.window" opens from the msn messenger but nothing is displayed there, i think the system is so troubled that it cant even display the debug info
i dont know where is everybody seen that 406 error
and monty's plugin, it works but opening the options window and having to click ENTER is so useless as doing it manually since you have to press enter for every nick change
i belive more in wouter's one, i only hope he fixes the errors or maybe im the one who is doing something wrong, i put the dll on the plugins dir, then i ran the .reg and registered the .dll, then i restarted (just in case) and when when i opened winamp there;s were my system crashed
any ideas???
im using
msn plus 2.21
msn 6
and winamp2.91

same thing, you press it every time a new song starts?? there is no point on displaying a song you were playing ONCE UPON THE TIME, the idea is to display the current song
and to do that you would have to do the shortcut key EVERY TIME a new song starts
RE: Winamp song for nick by itior on 10-21-2003 at 12:50 AM
Why on earth would you want your display name to change every time a new song comes on? In fact, why would you want your display name as what song you're playing at all?
In FACT, why can't you just use your damn name. Custom names are the best invention since sliced bread

Use the Winamp5 beta. Winamp2 stability, speed, and plugins, Winamp3 skins. Problems solved.

thats a good question, you know what else is a good question, why on earth would you read a thread called winamp song for nick if you think its so useless??
RE: Winamp song for nick by itior on 10-21-2003 at 08:58 PM
To comment on how annoying it is when contacts /nick every 3 minutes and always sign in with song long bs display name and you have no idea who it is.

Which is exactly what custom display names (plus, of course) and display-by-email mode are for.

love the work guys,
but is there any way that you can make it so that it donsn't dake the focus of of the current window?
when i am typing in word or anywhere, it changes the focus off of the application, and my typing just stops
so could you make it so that it did the change very wuickly so that the focus was returned to the current widow?
RE: Winamp song for nick by Wouter on 10-27-2003 at 09:43 PM
Yeah i did this but i removed it again
RE: Winamp song for nick by hilikus12 on 10-27-2003 at 10:58 PM

RE: Winamp song for nick by WebRaider on 10-28-2003 at 03:53 PM
Hi [Wouter] , Your plug-in doesn't work with me.
The only thing it does is opening the prefference window of msn.
I've running
Windows Versie: Windows XP, 5.01.2600
Messenger Client Versie: 6.1.0155
Messenger Plus! Versie: 2.50.0065
RE: Winamp song for nick by steel on 10-30-2003 at 12:49 AM
is it possible to also have song lyrics in the name?
like in winamp you put in the lyrics into the ID3 tag or whatever, then your programme displays random lines of lyrics from the current song you are listening to?, coz that would be a coo reature to have!
RE: Winamp song for nick by popaul on 10-31-2003 at 08:59 PM
hummmm I still can't use the commands:
/xwinampoptions - - shows the options page
/xwinampabout - - shows the about dialog
/xwinampon - - enable current song to nick
/xwinampoff - - disable current song to nick
they just appear like text... what am i doing wrong?
i want the optionssss
thx for help!

Wouter you might want to change the readme you forgot the "'s in the registering
1: Go to Start > Run > and type:
2: Type.. regsvr32 "c:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 2\Plugins\winamp.dll" And click OK.
3: DllRegisterServer in c:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 2\Plugins\winamp.dll succeeded appears.
4: Run Install.reg yes/no will appear press yes.
5: restart msn messenger
6: Type.. /xwinampoptions for options and /xwinampon to enable song 2 nick
Edit:Woo hoo this one is working just fune mabey in a futer verson so you can make it so its just one like so you can just type in %winamp% and it would make the song. like im listinint to %winamp% right now. then you would only have to have one line instead of 2 or 3. if not i like the fact that its working

RE: Winamp song for nick by Kalibur on 11-04-2003 at 03:44 PM
Love this plugin, but is it possible that it wouldn't automatically tag at the end? I have the (!WAT) in between the rest of my nick:
quote: |-[(!WAT)]:—— d(-_-)b
but the song name tags along at the end as well:
quote: |-[Pitch Black - It's All Real]:—— d(-_-)b Pitch Black - It's All Real
Can you help me out? Thanks.
RE: Winamp song for nick by chris on 11-04-2003 at 11:12 PM
I just noticed since i dont use this plguin too often but it doesnt change if i double click a song. like say i were listing to song1 and then double clicked song2 it wouldnt change my name
RE: Winamp song for nick by Wouter on 11-05-2003 at 07:23 AM
are you sure you've read the readme?
look at point 1
RE: Winamp song for nick by schaapje on 11-09-2003 at 03:19 PM
Wouter: i have a small suggestion for this plugin. The (!WAT) function even works if you insert that into your name. So you can remove the id3 tag at the end. Everyone can then use (!WAT) in the name wherever they want.
What do you think about that?
RE: Winamp song for nick by Wouter on 11-09-2003 at 09:56 PM

i tried the new version but it didnt work
it didnt update my msn name, and i cant change the value at the /xwinampoptions menu.
btw. it is a bit unclear what happens with the value in /xwinampoptions, now it's only added to end of the name, while I liked the option to choose what name you have when winamp is not playing, and when you are playing.
still the gui looks a bit nicer than before
keep up the good work

Hey dude,
I installed the new plugin, but it isn't working for me,
i can see the new very smooth lookin GUI you have created but when i type in the name which i want to use and press save, it dosn't save it. When i go into the options again, it just says the name which it was before, not the updated one?
What can i do about this?
RE: Winamp song for nick by schaapje on 11-12-2003 at 11:37 PM
I had the same problem but i solved it. You have to use regedit and remove the old values created by the plugin, Just search for Wouter and you'll find in in your registry. Delete all and run installer again. Then it works better
RE: Winamp song for nick by chris on 11-13-2003 at 02:26 AM
Howcome you got to have it set to only people on my contact l ist and view my status and send me messeages? i dont like that and for that reason im not useing it
RE: Winamp song for nick by steel on 11-13-2003 at 02:49 AM
Hey Wouter,
just got it to work by deleating the registry entry and installing it again, i luv the work with the switching thing, i can now type an essay in word and not have to worry about my song changing an me typing and nothing being written on the screen!
Maby you could put a registry check in your installer which checks for old versions of your Fantastic plugin in the registry, then make it delete or update them to the new values...just a thought i dont know how hard it will be
i also think that you should give us back the option of having a name for when we are not listening to winamp and then we are...that shouldn't be too hard for you to re-addin to the program should it?
Keep up the good work
And Thanx again for the plugin!
RE: Winamp song for nick by schaapje on 11-14-2003 at 03:03 PM
Ok, i still found a few bugs. I'll post them here so you can fix them
If you have the plugin running, but winamp isnt. Then if you start winamp it will already automatically change your nick but no song is playing yet so ul see something like, "schaapje (listening to )" instead of just "schaapje". This is not a really big issue because when u press the play button on winamp the problem is already solved.
The second bug i found is that when you do /xwinamptoptions while playing a song, then the new value in /xwinampoptions will be added to your last complete name. So you get something like "schaapje (listening to something) (listening to something)"
So you have to stop winamp before changing your nick, that a bit annoying but still, its not the end of the world .
maybe you're willing to fix it
RE: Winamp song for nick by schaapje on 11-14-2003 at 03:11 PM
Maybe its also usefull idea to clean the old settings in registry when your using the installer, or provide an uninstaller so you can easily remove the old settings in registry. This caused some bugs here.
Keep up the good work

I'm useless I know.
Can someone please write an idiot proof step by step guide for how to do it from start to finish for this poor newbie? I'll be eternally grateful, and I really am sorry for being useless! lol
