FOR ALL TRANSLATORS quote: This is also been done in other programs (not all). Then in other programs they sometimes use the ampersand only on the OK-button and never on CANCEL. So, what should we do? Are there any rules for this? Netiquette? What about the people who use other methods for typing (like blind people)? PS: this message is also posted to original poster. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- :EDITO: These ampersands should be removed (according to the comments in DefaultLg.dat): Lang_Brazilian.ini [Dialog.Preferences] OkButton=&OK CancelButton=&Cancelar Lang_Danish.ini [Dialog.Preferences] ApplyButton=An&vend DefaultButton=S&tandard Lang_Greek.ini [Dialog.Preferences] OKButton=&ΟΚ CancelButton=Ά&κυρο Lang_Japanese.ini [Dialog.Preferences] OkButton=&OK CancelButton=キャンセル(&C) RE: Ampersands/Shortcut/(&) in OK and CANCEL by Choli on 08-15-2003 at 10:57 AM I think that the & at the OK and Cancel buttons should never be used. We haven't put any at the Spanish (Spain) translation. RE: RE: Ampersands/Shortcut/(&) in OK and CANCEL by Leif on 08-15-2003 at 02:41 PM
quote: I think you are perfectly right in doing that! Regarding the blind: Enter equals the OK button and Esc equals the Cancel button (so the don't have to tab their way to these buttons) On the other hand there really should be ampersands on the Apply and Default buttons. So the Danish .INI is right!! Lang_Danish.ini [Dialog.Preferences] ApplyButton=An&vend DefaultButton=S&tandard Windows standard! Right? RE: Ampersands/Shortcut/(&) in OK and CANCEL by CookieRevised on 08-15-2003 at 02:53 PM
Yeah, but Patchou stated in DefaultLg.dat quote:So, ampersands in APPLY and DEFAULT or not? RE: RE: Ampersands/Shortcut/(&) in OK and CANCEL by Leif on 08-15-2003 at 03:42 PM
quote:See attached pic. This is, I think, Windows standard. OK and Cancel - no ampersand Apply and Default - ampersand Reason: Those who e.g. can't use the mouse must have a way of easily being able to press buttons. And Enter = OK, Esc = Cancel - so we don't need ampersands on those. RE: Ampersands/Shortcut/(&) in OK and CANCEL by CookieRevised on 08-15-2003 at 03:50 PM
Yeah, I knew this already, but thing is, in most language-files there are totaly no ampersand in [Dialog.Preferences] (only the ones state in my first post here have them). So they all have to be changed then.... RE: Ampersands/Shortcut/(&) in OK and CANCEL by Ice Queen on 08-16-2003 at 03:00 AM i knew that i tries it some time back RE: RE: Ampersands/Shortcut/(&) in OK and CANCEL by Chrono on 08-16-2003 at 09:59 PM
quote: Same in the spanish (latin) one RE: Ampersands/Shortcut/(&) in OK and CANCEL by Patchou on 09-05-2003 at 04:25 AM In Messenger Plus!, you can (and you should) put ampersands on every button except the Apply, Default, OK and Cancel buttons at thye bottom of the Preferences window, that's the only rule |
