look at this: RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by bach_m on 02-13-2004 at 10:21 PM its real....... why not click "Microsoft Corporation" and inspect the certificate??? and that IS the WMP 9 series site RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by tomfletcherman on 02-15-2004 at 08:40 AM What site were you on when it told you to download it? RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by KeyStorm on 02-15-2004 at 08:46 AM
MP3 is done by the Fraunhofer Institut, but the codec is distributed by Microsoft (and certified by Microsoft) RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by lylesback2 on 02-15-2004 at 05:23 PM i wasn't on any web site, just popped up when i was listening to music... (yes i use MP9 to listen to music.. maybe thats why ) RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by bach_m on 02-15-2004 at 05:27 PM
ya. thats why so its fine. just remeber: RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by lylesback2 on 02-15-2004 at 05:35 PM i just wasn't to sure.. cause IE6 wasn't even open, so i thought it was a popup RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by KeyStorm on 02-15-2004 at 05:37 PM WMP uses a sort of IE to access the media and download codecs from time to time, when needed. Nothing else. RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by fluffy_lobster on 02-15-2004 at 05:52 PM Unless it's a fake security alert (i wouldn't see why, if the virus can fake the alert it might as well install itself) you know it's real without viewing the certificate because Verisign wouldn't give a certificate to anyone under the name of Microsoft unless it was Microsoft itself... RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by Anubis on 02-15-2004 at 05:58 PM Can your computer play MP3 files? Because if not maybe your comp is begging for the codec RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by lylesback2 on 02-15-2004 at 06:04 PM
quote:LOL!!!! of cource my PC can play MP3's LOL RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by CodeChaos on 02-15-2004 at 06:24 PM
I never got that... I only click yes if I know something about it. RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by CookieRevised on 02-15-2004 at 06:39 PM
quote:It's not such a stupid question. mp3 is a name for a codec which has many subcodecs. If you don't have the right (sub)codec to play a certain file, then WMP will ask you if it can download the codec so you can play the file... RE: Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP by Anubis on 02-15-2004 at 06:49 PM
Yeah I remember when I was having to download a codec to play one file I was sent...WMP9 did it...and my comp usually plays any MP3! |
