Can anyone recommend some good customisable php-based blogging software that's free? RE: Blog by GiantSpider on 04-02-2004 at 03:14 PM I use WordPress. Have a look here RE: Blog by Guido on 04-02-2004 at 11:06 PM Surfi uses Bblog, which seems to be nice. RE: Blog by lizard.boy on 04-03-2004 at 04:06 AM

I use WordPress. It's got everything I need and you can mod / hack it really easily. It also integrates into a site design easy. RE: Blog by Wabz on 04-03-2004 at 12:27 PM
I use something called Boastmachine from http://boastology.com/ RE: Blog by surfichris on 04-03-2004 at 12:45 PM
quote:Guido is apparently a fan of my blog.. not sure why bBlog is really nice, it uses the SMARTY template engine for templates which allow you to change EVERYTHING in the HTML. It also has a plugin type system built in meaning its easy to add your own modifications.. I tried to hook Wabz on it too but he didnt like it.. RE: Blog by Wabz on 04-03-2004 at 12:52 PM
quote: Too much work editing templates and shit I'm tempted to change to Wordpress though RE: Blog by Chris.1 on 04-03-2004 at 12:57 PM
quote: Yeah, I heard the smarty engine was pretty bad. I like the way WordPress does things. You just have to insert the appropriate PHP tags where you want them. RE: Blog by surfichris on 04-03-2004 at 01:00 PM
Well, it is pretty complicated if you are new. RE: Blog by bach_m on 04-03-2004 at 03:50 PM i use blogger. its owned by google, so its always up, and its ridiculously simple, but allows you to do hard things. the template is completely editable, and its all simple HTML-like tags. i higly recomend it RE: Blog by Chris.1 on 04-03-2004 at 03:52 PM
I used to use blogger. But I don't like not having control over everything. Also, WordPress is a lot more dynamic. You can create special archives, categories, etc. RE: Blog by lizard.boy on 04-03-2004 at 05:08 PM i like the smarty engine for bblog but its a pain in the ass to use to create your own website. RE: Blog by fluffy_lobster on 04-03-2004 at 08:44 PM
i'm loving the smarty engine of bblog... the default skin is kinda annoyingly dependent on <divs> but it wasn't too hard to get how i wanted... my blog is now up at http://www.big-blue-fish.com/lobsterpot RE: RE: Blog by Guido on 04-03-2004 at 09:49 PM
quote:Lol, it's just the only blog from somebody here, and one of the things I checked when I first visited is which cms you used, but I'm not a fan of it or anything. I have 47 rss feeds in my aggregator, you are not the only one So is Smarty crappy? I was going to implement it in a project (well, not just me, a real programmer ). Are there any better template engines? RE: Blog by surfichris on 04-03-2004 at 10:10 PM
quote:Blah! Its easy! quote:No, smarty is awesome.. just remember to read the documentation first. RE: Blog by lizard.boy on 04-03-2004 at 10:12 PM
