Msn making me/us upgrade?? by Pr0xY on 04-17-2004 at 01:03 AM

I went to log on to msn messenger and the box asking me if I wanted to upgrade came up... and it wouldn't let me sign on unless I updated......so I did... and guess what... its just version 6.1.0211.  so why are they making me/us upgrade this close to the release date of 6.2???

RE: Msn making me/us upgrade?? by MC Inferno on 04-17-2004 at 01:19 AM

I did that too. it might be a liitle late to say but theres a way round that y'know. :$ (Any1 that wants to know, PM me, because I'm not putting it here, its not what the thread is about). I'm skeptical about 6.2 to be honest.

RE: Msn making me/us upgrade?? by Wabz on 04-17-2004 at 11:04 AM

I dont imagine they'll make you upgrade for the sake of upgrading.  You can still use messenger 5 so why would they force you to update 6.1 to 6.2

RE: Msn making me/us upgrade?? by scott_5214 on 04-17-2004 at 12:29 PM

I dont know why they would make us upgrade so close to a new realese. But, they made me upgrade this afternoon as well. I was still using messenger 6.0.602 ( i think thats the number, what hav has a 602 in it - or sumthing like that) so i could use my custom tabs. But now i hav to use msnfanatics tab manager thing. ive found it better anyway - so it doesnt matter. Anyway, went just a little off topic there..

well they didn't and I doubt they will, but for some reason I could not sign online without updating to version 6.1.0211.  I tried 7 times to sign on but that d@mn messege kept coming up.  Ohwell, only down sid eis I dont have a Windows-X skin on my messenger right now.

tbh, if MS wants you to force-upgrade msn messenger, then mostlikely they have a good reason... They don't force people unless they have to (because of protocol-changes, serieus bugs, security leaks, etc... etc...)

IIRC msn messenger 6.1.0207 has a BIG security leak... so it's about time they trigger the force-update...

You just should be more patient in signing in.

BooGhost, when will you update your ClearMSN? :@:mipdodgy::p:|:(:'(

RE: Msn making me/us upgrade?? by KeyStorm on 04-18-2004 at 11:14 AM

Maybe the 6.2 testing group found a bug which appeared already in 6.1 and reported it to the 6.1 developers. If the fix is important enough they couldn't wait to release it with 6.2 they did now... It's always been this way...

more patient?? were you there when I tried to sign in. No you weren't.  It wasn't like the 7 times I tried to sign in was over a 3 minute period.  It was 30 minute period.  Patients had nothing to do with it, it wasn't that there were alot of people signing on and messenger was running slow, the problem was I COULD NOT sign in without updating, so thekid, please dont make accusations, I'm actually way to patient.  (espesially with users like you)
RE: Msn making me/us upgrade?? by user27089 on 04-18-2004 at 08:34 PM

they always leave it for ages until they force you to get an update, not many people get an update until that popup comes up, i'm not sure why they do this, it might take a while to get this popup around to everyone, and i'm pretty sure 6.2 will be out soon :) so you shouldn't be sceptical about it. 6.2 is gonna be the same as 6.1 loadsa people who can't be bothered to look for it will wait for a month to recieve a popup that forces you to wait 10 mins for sumit to download

proxy, ur a bit of a psycho IMO, like sum1 sed (cookie, i think). People like u always complain that microsoft releases software with bugs, but when they release a fix, u complain still :o

Its just one time when u can't sign in, and its not like ur whole life is dependant on signing into msn messenger.

no
saralk, proxy is right
they keep asking users who are using old version of messenger to update
if they don't update, they just keep asking
it's very annoying, so i understand how proxy feels about it

if you are using messenger with version older than .211,  i believe you experience it.
it's not one time, but many :)

First of all, I never complained about either of those things.  All software as bugs some time or another, and I understand that, and when a company releases a fix for it, why would I complain about that???   All I wanted to know was why I was forced to upgrade or not sign in and other people that had the same version were not.  And I now know why thanks to some of the forums users.  So yo can feel free to go and correct your post saralk.

actually it wasn't just one time.  I tried to sign in about 20 over a period of 35 minutes.  Normally I would have had better things to do then go on messenger, but I planned on talking to some people on there and it was important to me. (not that any of this matters but I have to explain it for saralk...)

This version doesn't bother me, I'm fine with the version I have, I dont need an older one.
