"Messenger Plus! Tester" or "Messenger Plus! Testers" group for users in the About Box of the latest version of Messenger Plus!.  I do it at my forum, just thought i'd suggest it here.  (Elite members would over-ride this)

I read the suggestions in another thread about special titles or images for testers/translators... maybe I could do something like that, because it's a nice idea...

I don't want to create a whole new usergroup just for a title though, and I don't want to set every user's title separately... I'd have to code a special feature for it.

I dont really see the need, if the user wants can't they have it as their avatar caption or in their signature?

Creating a whole lot of work for nothing really..

I don't really see the need though...Being Plus! 3 tester doesn't mean very much on the forums (for example, after Plus! 3 is released, every one is able to help others, and saying "Oh well, it was me who discovered the bug when I tested the beta" won't be very meaningful), and you have got enough fame when your name is shown in About box :-/

about the title, you'd have to put too many things (tester, elite, translator) or allow a person belong to 2 or more groups and he'd have the titles of all of them.

if finally someone *cough*guido*cough* makes a couple of images for testers and translators, you could add them below the title if they're small, and/or let the person have them in his/her sig... dunno..

Actually, this is a nice idea. A small key at the bottom, or on the hrlp page with hover text letting you know what each image means.

Obviously I have no idea what they would be, but add them above the line that says the time and date of each post. I suppose could work?

Myabe using the reputation & gender images as an example of how big they should be. I dont personally think they should have a particular heading or anything, just linkaged to the key so when someone clicks it they know what it is.

This is the reason i suggested seperating the stuff from the Status, reputation, etc... As trying to give it a heading would be difficult IMO. :P

2. There's no image for "tester/translator" made yet.
3. I don't have a list of which forum members are translators (the testers are OK).

BTW, specifying select options like "tester=Tester" didn't work, so I hacked that in. It just returned <option value="tester=Tester">tester=Tester</option>. :p

I already have the tester list ready (yes, thanks to you :refuck:).

There sure are lots of translators... :( It takes some work to identify them, because the translator list doesn't include forum usernames... :p

I think I have images assigned to all the testers and translators now... identifying the translators was a pain in the ass... :p

The main bug/glitch I'm seeing now is the space between the images if you have both. I had to add spacing around the images to make them look nice alone, but now they don't look so nice together. :p

Oh well, maybe some CSS tweaking in the morning. :p

Edit: Changed my mind... CSS tweak right now! Fixed. :banana:

Already thought of that, but I don't want to do it.

1. The translator list would be quite long (I was able to identify over 60 forum members who are translators).
2. I don't think it's a good idea to just give out lists of the testers and translators. I wasn't able to get the lists from some public source, so... blah. Just wait until they post, and then be surprised. :lol:

LOL, Thats an email from Patchou, I dont remember if I got that one, my email was down for 2 days recently so emails were bounced back.

Anywayz, WDZ, the images look great, as I said before, you can do anything with PHP.

Saying that they arent public isnt really a very good reason IMO, if you've added a tag to their username without even mentioning it to them, then you cant really use privacy as a defence. :P

Maybe a seperate list on another page and no the one Choli suggested? Uhmm... I'd find it useful. :undecided:

A private place is just the thing what is suggested...

BTW: Non-testers shouldn't be able to access it, even not see it, otherwise it wouldn't be usefull to the testers. It is a place where they can freely discuss and ask things to other testers without worrying about revealing new features etc...

If non-tester see this forum, then they would make threads about the things they see in the normal forum anyway, so big no-no ;)

I think the problem is when someone is excluded from the tester-group it's not a nice situation to have him/her trying to access the forum and get a permission denied message althogh having been a former tester.

Agreed, but it would still be easier I think for us to communicate through a forum.

Also, We dont know if Plus! 3 will spawn any sequals (Such as 3.01 or 3.50, etc.) like Messenger Plus! 2 did, and he'd prolly still use the same testers, so :P.

Theres loads of little things i'd have liked to have asked other beta testers on a forum. I wouldnt dare consider e-mailing Patchou about it. They're a total waste of time... I like the idea personally.

Well, Patchou would be able to sort bugs easier (testers would sort them) and if there's something wrong, others could reply.

And Patchou would avoid the double-reported issue (which I can imagine is very annoying).

Next time there's a beta testing period, I guess we can think about having a forum for it. One little problem though: beta testers would have to be in their own usergroup so forum permissions could be set up. There are two options:

1. Any elites/mods/admins who are testers would have to temporarily lose that status to have access to the beta forum.
2. All elites/mods/admins would have access to the beta forum, even if they're not testers.

How many elites/mods are actually not testers? Maybe two or three? That shouldn't be a problem, if people are elite here they are good enough to be trusted not to leak any info. And admins should always be able to access every forum :p.

I think there's no problem with non-tester elites viewing MP!ß-secrets (they are actually trusted members of the community) So there's principally no need to have double usergroups (which is very likely to be complex impov: you don't know which to show, there could be permission conflicts between them, so which is the rpeferred one?... rather difficult).

I personally don't think the same kind of building will happen on Plus 3!  It's more of a cleaner version of Plus 2! 

Perhaps Patchou might make a seperate add-on for Messenger that does more advanced things for the more experienced user, something like Wtbws idea of Freedom :)

eXoenDo doesn't want to be an elite, for example, and others just don't deserve to be forum elites... so there could be problems.

Allowing elites access that testing forum shoud be fair enough, though.

Personally, I do not want to be an elite, but if it alleviates a problem I will (as long as I can keep my Non-Elite title still :D), but I still say it should be like a Dual Forum for Testers to talk on and things like that.
