Well, Plus! 3 is already out and you may want to have control over all its settings. Well, as you can see in http://www.msgplus.net/help_registry.php there are several ones that are only configurable in the registry.

That's why I made this tweaker. I hope you enjoy it ;)

Btw, Patchou, put in that page the new version (that I've sent to you 5 days ago :P and I'm sending again :gfdrin:).

you have to download that file and copy it to c:\windows\system32 . Search the forums, you'll find it ;)

what you're looking for has't anything to dowith the tweaker. You can change that from the preferences of plus. Let's continue talking about that in that thread ;)

I was using the old version and thought "Shame it doesn't have some of the options in there". Blame Patchou for having an old version on his site ;)

Suggestion
Maybe add to ChangeSecurityWarning the possebility to set the times that the securitymessage will be shown. From 0 to 5 (the only normal default Messenger settings) or unlimited (if you set it to 0xFFFFFFFF... see that other thread.)

It's a tweaker for plus not messenger... and also, if the user uses that setting, I suppose s/he's using msn messenger 5 not 6, don't you think? Anyway, I'm lazy to add that setting (too much code for little result: the setting is not in HKCU\Software\Patchou\MsgPlus2)

the main problem is the way the program internally works, adding that key isn't as easy as adding a new msgplus key

I mean, who using msn msg 6 would want use show the warning? and even more: why would s/he display it only X times? The point of that option in plus is change an ugly message that was always displayed by a nicer one. That's why I think only people who uses version 5 would want to use that setting (and then no need to set the number of times)

are the same thing because both have to do with the same setting: ChangeSecurityWarining tells if the setting is enabled or not and SecurityWarningTxt tells the actual value of the setting ;)

Ummmmmmmm Choli...I just put that tweaker in system32 and it came up....Runtime Error'339'.........Component'COMCTL32.OCX' or one of its dependencies  not correctly registered: a file  is missing or invalid...Help plz?

not only all the settings listed at the msgplus page but also other ones by my own which some of them are global to all the users :banana: (they are the ones which descriptions ends with "This is a undocummented hidden setting. It may not work")

you don't need to put the tweaker there. download COMCTL32.ocx and put it there.

Tweaker updated (ver: 1.2.25): Now you can configure the text and background colors of your favorite feature of Plus 3.20: The floating windows. You can also configure the level of transparency of them: from 0 to 90%

if it doesn't, try a newer version (there are links in this thread). My versions are: comctl32.dll -> 5.82.2800.1106, comctl32.ocx -> 6.0.81.5

it's about the COMCTL32.OCX (runtime error '339')

edit : finally, I've downloaded a new copy of COMCTL32.OCX and I put it on the same folder of MsgPlusTweak and now it's ok

Just curious. I am trying to set the program to open my log files to the Log Viewer program. However, I am unsure of how to enter that into the Tweaker to get it to work. Does it require a full path name or what? If anyone can help or direct me to the proper place to get help for that, I would be very thankful. Otherwise, Plus! and Tweak are great stuff. :)

yup. You have to put the name of the exe if it's inside a folder of your path, not very usual; so you'll have to write the complete path to the exe (ie. something like c:\program files\bla\logviewer.exe )

Choli, do get some less troubles with COMCTL32.OCX, you could recompile your program with version 5.00.3828. This is the first version which is totally binary compatible with previous (very old) version and also with the newest updates.

To do this you need to unregister your current COMCTL32.OCX (in the system32 dir), delete it (or rename it, whatever). And copy the 5.00.3828 version to your system32 and register that.

After this, open your project's VBP file and change #1.3# to #1.2#, save the project file and open it in VB6 and recompile.

Nothing will be broken if you do this (the newer updates of COMCTL32.OCX don't add anything new, they only fix some bugs. eg: here) and the big benefit of this is that your application is compatible with all COMCTRL32.OCX versions out there and people wont get the "your comtcl32.ocx is out of date" errors anymore.

Thanks for the suggestion, Cookie. But do I need to change my COMCTL32.OCX every time I want to compile the program? That would be a bit dodgy... I thinking... would it be possible to have 2 versions of that file installed (registered) at the same time? What about if I copy the old comctl32 with other name and use it in VB instead of the new version? (i mean in the menu Project > components).

The reason why compiling with an older version has the benefit of working with newer versions is because of the binary compatibility and because of the same GUID and ProgID's (if there wasn't binary compatibility the GUID and ProgID's would be different). So no, you can't have two copies of that same OCX registered at the same time; they use the same GUID and thus there can only be one path to the OCX file (the currently registered one). Note: this also goes for all GUID's, not only for GUID's of OCX's. Hence why installing, for example, multiple msn messenger versions is not _that_ good.


This said, you can run an application with another OCX by putting that OCX inside its applications directory or startup directory _and_ IF that application handles this correctly (not all use the default windows path search order and certainly not all handle the registering of such files correctly). It also depends on weither the OCX is selfregistering or not. If the application registers the OCX in its current directory or the OCX registers itself because it was called wrongly by the application, the shit could hit the fan. Especially when you decide to delete that OCX again (eg: you uninstall the application). Hence this is a _very_ common cause to problems with DLL's, OCX's, etc that needs registering.


I actually didn't tried yet what you suggested though; it might work, it might not. It depends on how VB handles that GUID and filename inside the project file. I do know that if there is an older version listed there (eg '#1.2#') and you have a new version registered (eg: typelibrary v1.3) that it will automatically update to that new one (despite disabling the setting "Upgrade ActiveX Controls" in your projects properties as that is something different). So I assume for now that VB follows that GUID and updates its project file with the currently registered typelibrary.


I'll try some stuff out and let you know... In the meantime you could make a small batch script or something which switches between the old and new by renaming and (un)registering them (that's what I do atm). Besides, there is no harm in using the old OCX (if you know what you're doing; as in: you know you are running on an old one), as long as you don't notice any crashes of course and as long as a certain program doesn't explicitly requires the new version :P

EDIT, after trying several things: As I suspected, VB looks at the GUID and follows it to get the current registered version and it will compile with that one. So putting:
"Object={6B7E6392-850A-101B-AFC0-4210102A8DA7}#1.2#0; C:\MyApp\COMCTL32.OCX" inside your project file or form files will not work. Thus I'm afraid you'll need to 'swap' the versions each time before you compile (a batch script is very handy for this; pm me if you need it ;)).

All the text recall settings except TextRecallShortcut were already included in the tweaker... I don't know why TextRecallShortcut wasn't there :P

Plus! Tweak! does nothing else but edit the Registry for you. All the features are in MsgPlus!

If you are using MSN Messenger 7.0 and above, CtListFont does not work anymore. It only works for MSN Messenger 6.x

It wasn't deleted, as it still works for MSN Messenger 6.x. It's just that MSN Messenger 7.x doesn't to allow this change anymore. There's nothing that can be done about this. (Y)

blueyez, as you can read on the first post of this thread, the Plus! tweaker is nothing more than a convenient way to set some registry settings for Plus!. These registry settings can be found on the official help pages: http://www.msgplus.net/help_registry.php

There it states:

CtcListFont

The CtcListFont key can be created to override the font normally used in the contact list window. This can be useful for accessibility reasons or in conjunction with special Messenger skins. The same font face and color is applied for every element in the contact list. Note: this feature does not work with MSN Messenger 7.0 or later.

Playing with the fonts in Display Properties > Appearance > Advanced will change your contact list font in 7.0+ after you restart MSN after making the changes (I can't remember which one exactly right now). Be warned that it will also change the fonts throughout the rest of your system too.

I do not recommend doing that at all. Changing the default fonts in Windows will break many dialogs in many programs because almost all dialogs are designed with the default fonts in mind!

yes, but what riahc4 means is that the registry tweaker will be released soon after that time (if Choli finds the time to update it). Until then all you can do is watch this thread (no need for bumping either).
