My computer keeps getting stuck at the windows is starting up screen right before the user screen comes up. I think it's due to an extra not used user named administrator I've tried to delete the user but the user does not come up in the list in Control Panel> Users . Thanks for the help RE: Windows Xp Home edition stuck at startup screen by Ezra on 05-24-2004 at 08:45 PM try this: Start>Run and type "control userpasswords2" (without the " ) this is a more advanced users screen . Hope this helps. RE: Windows Xp Home edition stuck at startup screen by WDZ on 05-24-2004 at 08:52 PM
I think it's impossible to delete the "Administrator" user. You might need that account if your computer gets screwed up (or you forget your other passwords) and you can't log on. quote: RE: Windows Xp Home edition stuck at startup screen by Choli on 05-24-2004 at 09:40 PM
quote:wrong. The Administrator account is just one account more. What does it has the powers it has is its beloning to the Administrators group that has a lot of rights (directives) and permissions. User "Guest" can be an admin if you just add it to the Administrators group. With all this I mean that a user who has the needed rights to delete accounts (ie: a user in the administrators group) can delete the administrator account, however that's not recommended in any way. quote:I tried that, except when I go remove to the user named "Administrator" it has an error and says the user cannot be removed RE: Windows Xp Home edition stuck at startup screen by marissa on 05-24-2004 at 10:08 PM
quote: This exact thing happened to me and it was because the partition screwed up, the computer man told me. Anyways, all i had to do was fromat my computer. But i guess you can log in right? SO maybe tahts not it... RE: Windows Xp Home edition stuck at startup screen by Shadows_death69 on 05-24-2004 at 10:27 PM I'm not losing all my stuff just to format over this . The problem also is that when it starts up this administrator log in thing comes up and if it doesn't have an error it don't work if it does it do work... Although I can just leave it at the start up screen and it goes to the screen saver and then when i move the mouse it goes to the user list screen RE: Windows Xp Home edition stuck at startup screen by marissa on 05-24-2004 at 10:33 PM it stays at the welcome screen? RE: RE: Windows Xp Home edition stuck at startup screen by Shadows_death69 on 05-24-2004 at 10:50 PM
quote:No no it stays at the "Windows is starting up" screen RE: Windows Xp Home edition stuck at startup screen by WDZ on 05-25-2004 at 03:07 AM
quote:Uhh... if you say so... quote:Yeah, I know that any user can be given admin permissions, but I thought that the admin with the username "Administrator" was built-in and "special." quote: quote:The 2 quotes above seem to conflict with each other... Hmm... check this out: http://www.winnetmag.com/Windows/Article/ArticleID/40721/40721.html quote: RE: Windows Xp Home edition stuck at startup screen by Choli on 05-25-2004 at 08:32 AM
quote:i think I should shut up sorry quote:The name has nothing to do, 'cause in spanish it's Administrador. It isn't a built-in account. It's created when you install Windows, yes, but the same as any other. Well, now I know what happens: When you install windows it creates a user named <administrator in the language of windows> and creates a SID for it. (SID=internal number that identifies users in windows, like linux' UID). Then I suppose that when you're gonna deleta a user, Windows checks it it's SID is the same as the one that was created for that user and in that case it doesn't let you delete the user. |
