Can anyone tell me what does the Transparency feature actually do, and how is it functionalised?

it makes ur contact list and/or IM windows transparent.
the feature only works on windows 2000/XP

If your contacts become transparent, how do YOU yourself see them? Or is that the idea?

Well, it's not 100% transparent, but like 50% transparent or so. You can adjust the rate in preferences window ;)

You can set the level of transparency. It's not "no transparency" and "full tranparency"... You can choose between 0% and 100% transparent ;)
