msbb.exe ??? by ayjay on 05-28-2004 at 08:41 AM

Hi,

I have syware on my system called msbb.exe. It is part of n-case from 180 soloutions inc. I have tried all the adware/spyware removers but none of them get rid of it. I have also tried all the usual ways of deleting it but nothing works. It corrupts internet explorer by underlining and turning certain words into hyperlinks for their advertising. Also, when you search for something in Google, the first page it comes up with is a "fake" google search results page with a page of n-case's advertising.

Thanks in advance,
Dom.

EDIT: When I posted this, the underlining thing happened on the message :D....

since when do you have it? did you installed any program when you got the msbb.exe? Maybe if you reinstall and uninstall that program the spyware would be deleted (the same as with the optional sponsor in plus)... I dunno...

I haven't downloading anything at all that could have had it in (I think), and I don't really want to use a different browser. I've had it for about a week now, and it's really starting to annoy me!
Thanks for your help. :)

Try to use another browser than IE to search... like Firefox It will probably not be affected by the hijacker.

On the other hand try to disable any suspicious entry in the startup configuration. Start > Run > "msconfig" Make sure you restart after any change to verify that it did work.
If you have Windows XP you should also take a look at the "services.msc" to see if there's a suspicious service (hide all Microsoft services to se it clearlier) If there is, disable it and set the start to manual.

Search in your Uninstall list if there's an entry to this program and try to uninstall it. If not search the programfolder and run the unwise.exe / uninstal.exe / remove.exe in the folder if any.

Any other way would envolve Ad-aware or similar, wich are not always the best solution to deleteing spam-/ad-/spy- ware but at least the are effective (some garbage may be left in the registry or in other folders, nevertheless).

Good luck!

lol, it happened on the word spam in your post.
I haven't got XP and tried deleting it in msconfig but when I rebooted it came back again. It isn't in the uninstall list and I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ! :'(

If you have Win98, you should take a look at the autoexec.bat and the config.com in your C: root.

You should also use anothe browser temporally, in order to surf the web correctly and search about msbb.exe.

The last and crappy way is to open the registry, look for all entries containing msbb.exe and deleteing them. Or you can search yourself in your hard disk/s for this file and rename it to msbb.crap, eg.

That should stop it. After rebooting :google: it and try to find a solution to this specific program on the net.

That's because it was still a running process when you deleted it, it detected it and reinstalled itself there. What you need to do is go to task manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc), then go to processes and find any entries of the spyware program ( I'm supposing msbb.exe.. ). Then click the End Process button for this entry/these entries and then try deleteing it again in msconfig... Good luck

Just a couple of notes:

it's config.sys

does Ctrl + Shift + Esc work in Win98? Anyway, you can always use Ctrl + Alt + Del.

Erm... no, they meant task manager in Win98. Ctrl+Alt+Delete is not the task manager in win98, but... Ctrl+Alt+Del is better in this case anyway.
