MSN and Windows Messenger simultaneously by Tassu on 06-03-2004 at 01:33 PM

Situation: Running both MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger at the same time with two different accounts.

Problem: No logs and no event window in Windows Messenger.

Noticed this a while back when I started to use another account with Windows Messenger. When I try to view a log file in a WinM conversation, Plus replies "An internal error occurred. Logging is temporarily disabled for this chat. Try to reinstall Messenger if the problem persists."

Though WinM is kind of an obsolete version already, there's probably no possibilities to fix this?

You could use polygamy or a loader like jrnz. These make it possible to run more than 1 MSN Messenger.

You have to start WIndows Messenger before than MSN Messenger and Plus will work with both, else it will only work with msn messenger ;)

What's the best way to control this? Is configuring both Windows Messenger (5.0) and MSN Messenger (6.0) to start automatically unwise in this scenario?

you can disable the option "Start messenger when Windows starts" in both messengers (or, at least, in msn msg) and then you start them manually in the right order.
RE: MSN and Windows Messenger simultaneously by Vantage on 09-15-2004 at 09:27 PM

or just exit msn messenger(or end its process by task manager) then start windows messenger then MSN Messenger

RE: MSN and Windows Messenger simultaneously by cgwaters on 09-16-2004 at 05:22 PM

So does it go without saying that if both clients are configured to automatically start, Windows Messenger will typically start after MSN Messenger, thereby preventing Messenger Plus from working with both clients?

No. The problem is that when both are configured to start automatically, Windows executes them in a random order. Also, one of them may take less time to start than the other. Both factors make impossible to determine which one will start first therefore sometimes (or in some computers) MSN Msg will start before Win Msg and Plus won't work properly with both.

I guess if you asked really nicely, someone would make you a program that did this for you.

Laughs!, Well that did not go good for me. :-(

I tried a search on google for "polygamy" and I got links for many places if I want more then one wife. LOL

I did search for both "polygamy" & "jrnz" with no luck. I have not a clue what these are.

Might someone give me a direct link to there home pages telling me what they are and how to obtain them? How they work Etc.

Now onto this>>>>

Also, I was a bit confused about "Windows Messenger" VS "MSN Messenger" Now I know. I went and got the new 6.2 MSN Messenger, not knowing that Plus will not work with it.

And I have now installed  "Windows Messenger" version 4.7

Can anyone give me the links for both last versions of the two above that works with plus?

I would love to use both Microsoft Messengers at same time, with same logins. And I want my PLUS back! Coughs, for both.

I go to Microsoft places, and I can only find "MSN Messenger" 6.2 and when I try to get my "Windows Messenger" version 4.7 updated, all it will do is direct me to a new page to DL the new Sp2 for XP..

Oh yah, I run Win. XP Home Sp1 currently as well.

P.S. Any plans to update Plus to work with Sp2, and do you know of any issues as of yet?

I'm planing to some day go to the Sp2, but like many others, I'm kind of waiting and learning about all the new features, bugs, and issues that may creep up before taking it.

Plus! 3.1 works perfectly with MSN Messenger 6.2!!!

But some notes:
  • If you use both Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger (to make sure check your processes by CTRL-ALT-DEL) then Windows Messenger must be started before MSN Messenger in order for Plus! to work properly.
  • Plus! 3.1 will not work with the latest Windows Messenger 4.7.3000, which comes installed with SP2 of XP. This weekend, a new version of Plus! (3.20) will come out that IS compatible with Windows Messenger 4.7.3000.
  • Windows Messenger 4.7.3000 has also other issues, which, for many users, are pain in the but and almost everybody downgrades to Windows Messenger 4.7.2009 again (see links above)

On this, well after I Dled MSN Messenger 6.2, and loaded it. The odd thing is that there was no help, and when I cliked on the plus I got this here:

I'm adding the jpeg of what I got.

How do I place a pict from my computer, in my post?

Anyway, I discovered, after I installed the latesest Plus, it then corrected it self to show me the plus.

It also then showed me I indeed had version 6.2.

I also discovered before I had mentioned having version "Windows Messenger 4.7, and did not include full number as I should had. I do have infact 4.7.2009, I just hope if there is issues with Sp2, how do I avoid getting new one if this one is best to have?

P.S. You all are so super ausome here.. THX :D
RE: MSN and Windows Messenger simultaneously by IAmMeWhoAreYou on 09-18-2004 at 06:01 AM

Now another thing, that is really frustrating me. 8o|

After I Dled the 6.2 MSN Messenger, and installed the current Plus, I also chose the toolbar option in Messenger. Thinking it was the MSN popup thing. As it was installing, it told me had the version or something, I clicked on OK.

Anyway, after I got them both installed. All of a sudden, I discovered like 4 desktop icons, to, casinos, Internet, and Webhosting, one or two others..

Also, I had a crap load of new stuff jamed to my favs list, with simler things.

When I loaded my home page, all sudden, I had this strange toolbar below my MSN toolbar, with links to gambling, and various places, I figured out how I had to get rid of that, asks me to type in a number to rid my self of it.. Also discovered that my home page changed to one of these dam links. I also, started getting pops up while I went to places I wanted to. GRRRRRR

But now, when my home page loads, I get this dam screen on the bottom of my page, and keeps my task bar from coming up for me, untill I either close it or use it.

So, thinking I got this from either Plus or MSN, I now uninstalled Messenger, then checked it, is still there!!!!!

I mean, does this plus have some kind of auto addware or pop up software hidden in it? I cant stand pop up crap!!

Ok, *breaths*, this is a pict of what keeps coming up on me, and have no clue where it is, or how to KILL IT! :@

It could be the Plus sponsor program if you agreed to install it when you installed Plus...

To remove the MsgPlus sponsor, uninstall Plus then re-install. Just read what you're agreeing to this time. :)
