Yes, it depends because your motherboard supports a certain type of RAM and if you don't buy THAT type you can't use it

what you need to get from somewhere (best buy, or a small computer store) is (write this down):
128MB of PC100 SDRAM
it might be hard to find PC100, so PC133, or even any number will work, u just won't get the speed, as it drops to the speed of the mother board.
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by RebelSean on 06-07-2004 at 01:56 PM
What about off of ebay? Thats all cheaper thurr!!
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by Wabz on 06-07-2004 at 03:30 PM
SDRAM aint that expensive at the moment.
I picked up a stick of 256MB for £32 for a friend
Wish I had the money . www.ebuyer.com is normally quite good
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by Concord Dawn on 06-08-2004 at 12:52 AM
Generally RAM is cheap. You might want 512mB or RAM, because Winblows XP needs double the RAM for games and stuff. Also more RAM equals better computer.
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by .blade// on 06-08-2004 at 01:06 AM
I vote Microsoft Windows Codename "Longhorn" build 4074
There isn't too much difference between home and pro, so I owuld suggest you save yourself a hundred or so bucks and go with Home Edition...
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by RebelSean on 06-08-2004 at 01:10 AM
Yo, there is that on ebay dudes!!!!!!! I was lookin at it yesterday!!I dunno if its still thurr but it was yesterday ...Btw I would be savin 109.36 if I bought a home edition instead of Pro
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by Concord Dawn on 06-08-2004 at 01:24 AM
And you would be saving somewhere around $200 if you waited until Longhorn is officialy released and used a pre-alpha build dual boot.

did u see what his comp could take? 384 max.
i really don't think you need to upgrade. is there any reason you NEED to upgrade, or u just want to for shits and giggles?
and blade: we know u have longhorn, and we know u like it. good for you. but stop turning everythread into a discussion about ur pre-alpha OS....
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by kao on 06-08-2004 at 01:52 AM
to my understanding, Win XP Pro has better networking, easier to use etc, and a few other things related to user accounts/login things i think. Mostly minor things, but i prefere XP Pro

um....128 won't be enough for it to run smoothly - I would say 256mb +
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by Concord Dawn on 06-08-2004 at 01:04 PM
I'm stuck with a s!@# school laptop, so I can't upgrade anything. I'm looking at buying a desktop computer. I would suggest something more than 192mb of RAM for Winblows XP, since it's not as compact as other versions. Another option would be to go with Windows 2000, which might not look as nice, but runs just as well.
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by RebelSean on 06-08-2004 at 03:20 PM
Well what if I get a 228 MB ram and add it wif my 64 which=292MB of RAM??? BTW: I don't want Longhorn,Windows200,ECT..All I want is Windows XP Pro/Home

i dont think u can ge 228 of ram. u can get 256, tho
longhorn is stupid to get now. blade is just spamming. save urself the money and get Home edition. It shud run fine on 500 MHz. i'm doing it
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by bnevets27 on 06-09-2004 at 01:28 AM
home is just fine unless ur gona b using the extra stuff on pro which is mainly networkin/file sharing and user account stuff
if ur the only one using the comp and not on a network i see no point in gettin pro
LH is good tho but i wouldn't sujest it, and it would not run on ur comp so i doesn't even matter. btw don't knock LH unless you have tryed it
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by RebelSean on 06-14-2004 at 11:06 PM
The home I understand is soposed to be cheaper?? Correct???
Do I get the Windows Xp Upgrade??? Or the full version??
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by user2319 on 06-15-2004 at 06:23 PM
Haven't read everything, only half of it, but I have run XP Pro with a PIII 600 and 128 MB RAM. All graphical shit off. It worked fine. But I suggest you use more than 192 MB RAM.
edit: It ran fine, but it was slow. With 'fine' I mean that it didn't take like 5 minutes from boot to logged in
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by Tochjo on 06-15-2004 at 06:23 PM
WinXP Home is (logically) cheaper, as it's less advanced.
You need to get the full version for a fresh install; if you have a previous Windows version installation, you could upgrade (although a fresh installation is recommended).
RE: Windows Xp Home or Pro by user2319 on 06-15-2004 at 06:39 PM
hey, RebelSean, do you care about the price? If you want to choose between WinXPPro and WinXPHome, Pro is better, Home is cheaper. You said you want to 'get' it. Does that mean that you will pay for it? If you do, then buy Home.

Ya, I'm thinkin about gettin it....I have some other stuff I want to get upgraded [offtopic] Like my motherboard, processor..ECT...But on the other hand i have about 1000 to spend on a new comp...Lol I don't know what im going to do yet [/offtopic] hehehe...
