I have recently reinstalled a clean installation of Windows XP Professional.
Got MSN Messenger 6.2, and the latest version of Plus.
I have never ever had this error before, but I am suddenly getting it now on my first ever attempt.
When I double click someone on my list to start a conversation, i get the following error:

We were unable to start a conversation with <ContactName>. You may want to try again.
<ContactName> being the conacts name I double clicked.
Anyone have any idea why this happens? I get it up when anyone tries sending me a message too... this is really mucked!
I did a search and was surprised to not find any results... sorry if there are any, i'm going to have a look again.

Have you installed the handwritingplugin? It looks like that. You can check it in Plus! --> Preferences --> Plugins. Uncheck the plugin there or delete MsnHandwriting.dll in C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus!3\Plugins

thanks, just tried that but i think MSN just went down...
anyone else confirm MSN has gone offline? I can't connect and their service status page times out.
Everything else is fine

yes, MSN Messenger is down atm.

phew.... thought it was just me for a minute then. very funny that it went down the moment i disabled the plugins - so easily fooled!

ah thanks very much! disabling the plugins worked great!
Thankyou! Hope this issue helps anyone else with the same problem. Wonder why I got it though? I don't think many other people do, or do they?

a lot of people complain about this. Sometimes it works for XP, sometimes not
