problem with personalized status! by lonelycent on 06-27-2004 at 05:29 PM

hi all
i got a problem with the status presets in the section of personalized status, and i went to the support channel for help, but did not get solution.

os: Win98 se (chinese simplified)
msn: 6.2.0137( chinese simplified)
plus!3(chinese simplified)

well, the problem is like this:

when i change my status to "playing", it shows like this:nickname#playing}(busy)------#here stands for a chinese charactor which can be shown here well i guess-----and the proper one should be nickname{playing}(busy} right?!
in another word, a chinese charactor replaces the "{" and shows on my msn. it makes the "status" sound weird and look bad!
dose anybody else have the same problem?!
hope somebody can help me out!

It should technically be in Translation.

No it shouldn't be in translation. This has nothing todo with the translation itself because the { and }, or the workings of the personalised status don't have anything to do with translating and aren't part of this. Although the problem may have something todo with the language...

however, This should be in "bug reports"...

I think the reason Translation was suggested is because it doesn't happen in other language versions. But I agree, it should really be in Bug Reports.

in fact it should be

nickname%{playing}(busy) (in fact what you should see is nickname (playing) with the icon of busy)

where % is a "special" space. It isn't the usual space, it's the Alt + 0160 space. This space -> <-

IMO, that may not be a problem with plus, because plus just changes that nick. The problem may come from messenger, who it's unable to interpret it correctly and it shows the Unicode (or MCBS) character that has the code 0160 and the code of { . In this case, this thread shouldn't be in BR.

In any case (the problem comes from messenger or it comes from plus) you can't do anything. lonelycent: do you know if other people with the same version of Windows and Messenger have the same problem? When you have that problem , do other contacts see the chinesse character or do they see it correctly?

actually, what i see on msn is nickname#playing}with the icon of busy
it also shows the same to my contacts, even in the chat windows if  i try to talk to them with the stauts presets.

i ever made some attempts on this matter. i updated my msn to the latest version 0137 from 6.2 0133 on which the plus did not show right either. i uninstalled the chinese version and reinstalled the english one on both msn version.
but nothin changed.

P.S.:a friend of mine who uses xp and the same msn and plus version as what i am using can see HIS plus status presets show properly on HIS msn,but HIS status presets show like this to MYmsn:nickname?{playing} with the busy icon-----it shows ok to himself but with an additional "?" behind his nick to ME
