since i have added a router to my comp i can't log into Messenger. how do i open a port so i can log into Messenger?

you don't need to open any port to sign in in messenger, however to do it you have to follow the instructions you'll fin d in its manual. Usually, most routers can be configured by going to a page like this: http://192.168.2.1/

Some routers are also
http://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.100.1

To find out which IP address to enter do this.

Windows 2k,XP,2003
Start > Run > cmd
type ipconfig and hit enter
The Default Gateway is what you enter in your Browser.

Windows 98/ME
Start > Run > winipcfg and hit enter

have you tried to reinstall it?

apart of the router, do you have any other network card/modem/whatever connected to your pc? are all those thing configured properly?

i've tried reinstalling it, and the only thing new to the comp is the router. before the router i had no problems logging into Messenger. don't know if it's related, but having problems getting into my hotmail account too.

since hotmail is "normal" html, i think the problem comes from your ISP. they're giving you a crappy service. Maybe you should contact them and tell them your problems.

ok, but on the same note. i disconnectied the router and was able to access hotmail, messneger and everything that i had problems getting to. so it seems like a problem with the router not my ISP. since figuring that out i've sent a message to the company that makes the router that i have. thanx for the help tho.
