NetZero HiSpeed SpeedWeek Trial by Dane on 08-09-2004 at 05:35 AM

Well, I've just began my Week-Long trial. NO banner ad's and GREAT speed for Websites on 56k :D.  I've so far gotten up to 1200% Faster loading these forums, its really cool, and image quality is barely affected (and noticeable, for that matter).

Anywayz, its awsome :D.

1200% Faster on 56k? How fast were you going before then?

I know that people in USA and some other countries still use 56k because it's free. But they are still selling paid 56k accounts to?

I wonder how much that costs you a month, is ADSL like that expensive or just not availible in you region?

To compare it with the Netherlands for example...

  • 56k: Availible in the whole country, no subscription for most providers, but you'll need to pay telephone costs a minute which already becomes expensive if you are on the net more then like a few hours a week. Same kinda counts for ISDN line, except you'll need to pay more when you use more lines to dial in with.
  • ADSL: widely availible, except from some areas where don't live alot of people. Availible in various speeds ranging from 256/128 Kbit down/up to 8192/1025 Kbit down/up. Prices depend on the speed and quality of the ISP, like 7.95 euro (~9.76USD) a month for the slowest speed and about 60 euro (~73.71USD) a month for the fastest speed.
  • Cable: Availabillity depends on what services your local cable provider has. Availible in various speeds ranging from 64/32 Kbit down/up to 6144/512 Kbit down/up. Prices depend on the speed and quality of the ISP, like 14.95 (~18.36USD) euro a month for the slowest speed and about 70 euro (~85.99) a month for the fastest speed.

Other types of internet and faster accounts are mostly only availible for buninesses or on schools/university's (100MBit Dutch FTP server rule:p).

Breakdown of broadband costs for my home town (not exactly a small town by any sense 1.2mil pop)

code:
          down/up
DS-1  @ 1.5mbps/1.5mbps: $550
ADSL  @ 6.0mbps/768kbps: $99
Cable @ 5.0mbps/128kbps: $45
ADSL  @ 1.5mbps/768kbps: $79
ADSL  @ 768kbps/128kbps: $39

Pricing in the UK seems alot cheaper.

one thing I would like to point out.  NetZero HIspeed does not go faster than 56k.   ITS THE EXACT SAME SPEED!   Its just that HiSpeed uses cache on their server (it downloads the images and saves them for later use so when u go back to the site the images are already on their server (netzero) and your computer so the pictures are alreayd downloaded and makes it go faster)  so its not worth getting hispeed.  Its just cached and if u go to a site that changes alot it will take the same time to view.  This info came from netzero itself .. read the fine print.   You are better off going to dsl or cable.  Or stick to regular netzero, just enable cache on your computer and it will go the same speed (cache is usually on by default)
