the one you already have, it is at least a 17 inch monitor, isn't it? if it isn't, buy a new one.

In the store i'm buying there are no 1 mb ram...
Dvdrw i don't need it...
then i'll have a dvd reader and a cd reader...maybe the dvd drive will be an offer from my brother...yes the one i have is a 17 " i think and the lcd will also be 17 inches...
Here in prtugal taxes are a "STEAL"...Imagine...when your buying a car you have to pay towo taxes with the same value... IVA (19 % for pcs and for cars [THEY COUNT AS LUXURY IMAGINE] and IA (car tax[20 % i think]...)the country needs money and they steal it from taxes...for example in a salary you've got to pay 10% of what you receive...man i'll change country when i'm 24 :P lol

DVD readers can read CDs.....

RE: New Computer by Jhrono on 09-03-2004 at 02:30 PM

but they're not as fast as cd readers :S

RE: New Computer by bach_m on 09-03-2004 at 02:38 PM

i think they are at reading CDs, just not DVDs.

although someone said that DVDs are like 4x the speed rating, so an 8x DVD reader is like a 32x CD

RE: New Computer by Jhrono on 09-03-2004 at 02:44 PM

hmm...dunno i think i'll stay the same...'cause my brother bought a pc 6 months ago +/-...and he bought dvd reader and cdrw...he's disapointed with the dvd reader and he is going to buy a dvdrw so i'm going to keep his dvdr...about another thing...that "graphic Card" is very good ain't it?i'll use the pc for downloads and games...(i'll have dsl in my room)...

Choli said 1 GB (1024 MB), you could have two 512 MB sticks.

ME, VAT here in Argentina is 21% too.
RE: New Computer by Choli on 09-03-2004 at 06:50 PM

About what has been said about DVD-readers: If they're good, they can read CDs as fast as CD-readers.

About CPU speed: It doesn't care very much because if you have other slow things, the CPU won't be able to go at max speed.

to store more than 700 Mb in a disc. DVD can store many things, not only videos/films. You can have several music CDs inside a DVD. Also, some operating systems are in 4CDs or 1DVD.

What about backing up large amounts of information onto many media? For example, music collections, backed up DVDs to codec compressed files and the added bonus of being able to transfer media onto it...

The demand for a powerful processor for the more average user has increased recently quite a lot, many games now require a 2Ghz processor and just a short while ago that was 800mhz, so a powerful processor is a must now...Especially with the P4 1Q coming out soonish processors will hit the 4ghz mark. Now is a risky time to buy a PC with this leap, mine was bought at Christmas time last year and it is 2.6ghz the norm in a years time could perhaps be double that...

Yeah, I just looked up a few, sweet :p

The nice thing about RAM is if you save up you can upgrade it, wait until the guarantee is up and save up in the meantime and then bring it up to 1GB...

Indeed, don't let the DVD readable speeds confuse you...they use a completely different scale to CD speeds...
And CD readable speeds aren't really a great need, years ago they were up at 52X and the most games they needed were 4X, however it is nice to be able to copy and install information off them quickly, but it's just as fast on the PC you wish to buy.

Bit small imo, I think 120GB is a lot nicer...mine has 40gb and 80gb partition, I store the OS, all programs and games on the 40gb part and on the 80gb part all the personal stuff, so in a restore nothing hard to replace is effected...a lot of people seem to be doing that as well, that's where a 120GB comes in very useful, the size for this is perfect. I'd advise you went up to 120GB...

But they're unrelated, maybe he just put the sentence together screwy and meant he liked both...
