how is it that i only have 18mb of ram, i should at least have more then that. RE: 18mb out of 200mb......... by KeyStorm on 09-18-2004 at 03:31 PM
If you use XP you can know the amount of memory used by every program. using the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and editing the columns. Other than that you should allocate some more space for yous page file (virtual memory). Make a big page file in a HD you hardly ever use and that is in the IDE cable of the CD-ROM (so you don't waste bandwidth of the important HDDs. Why don't you have a look at the task list and see what programs are hogging the memory? Then you can close 'em it if bothers you so much. RE: RE: 18mb out of 200mb......... by irish_king on 09-18-2004 at 03:35 PM

well, get to the task manager and select show > used memory (i'm not sure how it is in English so I won't bother to try to translate it directly) RE: RE: 18mb out of 200mb......... by ZrednaZ on 09-18-2004 at 03:44 PM
quote: Why not too big? All you're losing is a bit of HDD space, right? From http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.php: "... There is no downside in having potential space available." RE: 18mb out of 200mb......... by KeyStorm on 09-18-2004 at 03:56 PM
Well, relatively dangerous. You can't put a page file bigger than your free space and if you allocate all your free space you will have some performance problems, slowing down you PC. If it's too small, it will slow down, too. |
