StuffPlug-NG-Window opened notifier by saintgtril on 09-22-2004 at 07:44 AM

Can someone enlighten me on what does the extracts means:

but in some
1. rare cases MSN makes a connection without actually opening a window.
2.This feature is not 100% reliable, and
3. will never be...?????

with regards to "
If you enable this feature, you will get notified when a new connection has been made with your MSN Messenger.
Normally this means that someone opened a conversation with you, but in some rare cases MSN makes a connection without actually opening a window.
This feature is not 100% reliable, and will never be..."

The above extracts is extracted from www.stuffplug.com

Any enlightenments will be appreciated. Thanks a million :)

basically it means that the option is not 100% reliable -_-
As mentioned, it has happened to me that stuffplug said that someone opened a conversation, then i asked my contact if he did and he said no... this is because, as explained there, sometimes MSN makes a connection between 2 contacts without someone opening a conversation... what Stuffplug does is detect such connection, so it will be wrong sometimes when saying that ur contact opened a convo with u... but stuffplug is almost alays right so dont worry at all :)

Thanks chrono, that was a detailed elaboration :)

But i was wondering, why does MSN makes a connection between 2 contacts without someone opening a conversation?? For sure there is a reason behind this *-)

TB, is there a way of telling the difference? I mean, the connection for the DP would be on a different port, or have a different MIME-type (more likely tbh)?

how do you think they get transferred :-/ ?
RE: StuffPlug-NG-Window opened notifier by RaceProUK on 09-22-2004 at 06:12 PM

DP's will be transferred over normal file transfer yes? If so, then that connection is made in the 6000s, instead of over port 1863 like it is for messages.
Then again, if the transfer and messages are both going via HTTP proxy (port 80), then the image would have MIME image/jpeg, and messages MIME text/plain.

Basically, you can always tell the difference.

if the connection is just opening to detect a display picture, isn't there anyway to do it so it won't search for the display picture, because if you open a window, you may aswell just wait for the picture to load, surely when this connection opens.. stuff can get in if you don't have a firewall or anything else.

hahaha lol :gfdrin:

Well, TB, can you tell us, please, how many convo open notification from 100 can be wrong? (there is ofcourse no real number, but can you more or less astimate it?)

I'll tell you where the floor is. When you open a conversation window, then close it without saying anything. It will then come up that the person you opened the conversatyion up with and didn't say anything has opened a conversation with you. That is whne it happens.
