Fake E-mail - Virus Alert by Johnny_Mac on 01-08-2003 at 07:16 PM

It's been brought to my attention by dwergs from http://www.mess.be that an e-mail is currently circulating with the Subject: Messenger - Plus! Extension - Version 1.41c

Note: No way would such a file be sent via an e-mail as it larger then 40K. Therefore I recommend you remove it ASAP. Do not open the attachment which is named Readme.dat.scr.

The e-mail will read something like this:

***************************************
Messenger - Plus! Extension ** ** Version 1.41c
***************************************

Thank you for trying this little piece of software. I've worked hard on it and I sincerely hope that you'll enj

Remember it is best to download from a direct site rather then an e-mail, click here for a list of approved links.

Just today i received a virus with a mail message. Though, i don't know if this is the one because Norton antivirus blocked the message immediatly after dling it, and both subject and content, even "From" are blank.

Someone's been busy with developing nasty screensavers so it seems, I had to delete four of them last week.

I always get that mail. sometime subject is
xxx love xxx
???? Ragnarok ???
xxx msn xxxx
and other subject... (Can't remember)
The mail size is about 43-46KB.
If you see it I recommend to delete it quickly. (To make your mailbox free :P)

It's not hard to create a blank 'From' box. In Outlook Express you can either enter nothing or alt+0160 as your name when you set up an email account. I havn't tried it myself but I assume it works.

i know how to do that , what i meant is that norton antivirus deleted the subject and the "from" so, i could not figure if i was receiving the same mail that this thread described.

I believe the attachment contains the Yaha-K virus. At least; that was what i heard.
This virus is not too destructive; but it's very nasty to remove...

I get this garbage all the time and no matter how many times you block it they just change one letter after the @ and it'll get through any filter.  Damn these crappy people.

And you are right.  I've been receiving a bunch of those lately, and just to update you, I've been receiving subjects such as Plus 6 and Plus 2 which both contain the same type of virus
