Toolbar above taskbar with IE by jbdamann on 09-25-2004 at 07:08 PM

When i launch a new Internet Explorer page, i get a toolbar with casino n garbage on top of the taskbar. I installed Messenger plus with the sponsers and uninstalled hoping it would remove it, but it didnt

What gives, im very frustrated at this point.

Click here to go to a post by patchou, the creator of plus, on how to remove the sponsor

That post is old, outdated, and does no longer work. It installs LOP.com sh!t and im very upset about it. I reinstalled messenger plus 3 5 times, each time with sponsers and it still cant remove it.

That information in that post should still work. If not go to to http://lop.com/help.html#uninstall. Apparently that has an uninstaller for it

Yea, i was just not thinking. I could have gone and looked myself, but i thought i should blame the developer first. The uninstaller does not work for 3.2 for that toolbar

Thanks, it works

You need to uninstall, reboot, then re-install and DO NOT let the sponser program install...But make sure not to have any browsers  open...

"If you already did damage the setup package, the best thing to do is to reinstall with the sponsor before trying to uninstall everything properly"

As it says to uninstall it, i followed directions and it did not work.

are you sure you're reading it correctly?

if you've tried to uninstall it, uninstall msgplus and you can remove it then too, after that install WITH the sponsor, just so the files can be fixed if they've been altered in any way, uninstall it, adn choose to uninsatll sponser with it, then reinstall without the sponsor.

it works, and what you're saying is leading me to believe that you keep checking the "yes, i agree, install the sponsor program" because anyone would...i did it first too, so its no big deal, just try it step by step, and if that doesnt work, then try the uninstaller program on the site...

U prolly made the most common mistake. That beeing not having ur internet browser fully closed (from systray also) whilst uninstalling, remember u can't uninstall what's in use ;)

The instructions are not outdated and still work 100%.

Patchou,

You may not realise it, but LOP is actually spyware, albeit of the lesser variety. Much more importantly, please make it clear to Plus! users that they must not use the "new_uninstall.exe" program provided at http://lop.com/help.html#uninstall. Not only will it not reliably remove LOP, it will install a trojan called "mp3search" or some such. The people at lop.com (Owned by C2 Media) are spyware vendors, & not to be trusted.

You really should find another sponsor. LOP will be the downfall of your damn good program. It'd be such a pity.

This is a bit tricky to accomplish; WinXP prevents you from shutting down iexplore.exe processes completely - they just respawn. I'm not sure about earlier versions of Windows, but XP is only going to get more widespread, up until Longhorn comes out. So it is very hard to make sure the toolbar isn't in use.

Sincerly, Fred Greg.;)

Hi,

I'm facing this problem too and has followed all the instructions to removal of the toolbar time and time again including closing all internet explorers while uninstalling yet i am still unable to get rid of the toolbar.

While uninstalling, the uninstallation verification window does not pop up.. tried looking for it on the taskbar but there isn't such a window... Could this be the cause of the unsuccessful removal?

Checked out the lop website but am afraid to download the uninstaller, as warned, that it might cause more spyware.

Help!!

There's aboslutely no reason why you shouldn'tgive the LOP unisntaller atry. It will NOT install anything, it's an unisntaller, nota trojan.. please, don't spread this kind of false rumor, there's already enough of those on the web :).
