Auto Accept Missing Rename Requester by BlackStar on 09-26-2004 at 07:20 PM

An Autoaccepted friend of mine was sending a Word Document with a long filename and foreign characters.
The transmission failed over and over again with no explanation of why.

I removed him from the Auto Accept list.

In the next try I had a requester telling me to rename the file before accepting it.

This Requester won't show when Auto Accept is on.

This is probably by design, as Auto-Accept is meant to proceed without interaction.

BlackStar, nice find... never encountered such a file. And I assume Patchou or the other beta-testers didn't either, so (Y)...

You will get the same msgbox (msgbox 1 in the picture) when the filename is too long. But since this is a messagebox, I assume not much can be done about it. I mean, a keystroke can be send to close it, or even to close it and then choose "save as", but it still would require the users input. Both messageboxes can even appear one after the other...

The same goes for when you recieved a file for the first time and you didn't set a virusscanner to check it or something. A msgbox will popup to warn you (msgbox 2 in the picture).

But all this said, it shouldn't fail the file upload though...

The virusscan is initiated after the file has been downloaded. The file is send to the scanner, from there on it is in the hands of the scanner. So this doesn't interfair with the autoaccept or anything at all. It just works like it should work (unless it is a the first time that you've received a file and you didn't set a virusscanner, see above)

Well, message boxes are closed by Messenger Plus! automatically when auto-accept is working... as  Cookie said, Messenger Plus! can't unfortunately automate file-saving. I could add a warning (in the even viewer for example) saying the transfer got cancelled though...

Okay, that was what I figured out too, and now it is confirmed.
Coming to Virusscanners I have so far not had anything infected coming in. I use McAfee v8.0.41 and I haven't found in the documentation that it specifically scans Messenger but I think it really is scanning all incoming files. The new McAfee v9.0.10 says that it scans MSN Messenger and other messengers too. I guess I have to wait and see or ask somebody to send me an infected file - NOT.  ^o)

Saw You were in here Patchou.
Many Thanks for a very, very nice Add-on to Messenger. You've done a great job. Keep it going :)

not here though :(

Auto-accept is on, I let me send a file with a very long name (longest possible) the "file cannot be saved"-dialog pops up, nothing seems to happen... msgbox isn't closed (but the filetransfer isn't cancelled either though)

Messenger 6.2.0137 & Plus! 3.20.100
