Polygamy Trouble- Read within by Vazza on 10-03-2004 at 08:27 PM

okay so here's the thing:

I have two accounts, one hotmail and another with another service provider. I also have contacts on both who I want to be able to see together. So Vazza goes and downloads a polygamy patch that she had on Window 98 SE that worked perfectly and installs it onto Windows XP. On first runs i.e. when first installed and then after a reboot, messengers run smoothly together no a problem in the world. Then when Vazza comes back, Mesenger 1 decides to log in and then freeze. Also Windows Messenger doesn't want to play, so Vazza deletes MSN Messenger and reinstalls it but still the same problem.

What I want to know is, is there anything I can do to fix it or am I looking at a System Restore (however I do that). I'm hoping SR can be avoided as need to get disks from home then

Please advise

OS: XP HE version 2002, SP 1
Messenger: 6.2
WM : Don't know coz it won't load

Make sure you have the correct polygamy patch for the version of MSN you using.
If you dont, install the latest patch.
Also what patch is it?

it te Universal Patch that is suppose to work with version 5.X and 6.X. What I can't understand is why it would work and then wouldn't

What do you mean by that? Did you patch Windows Messenger? Are you trying to run that too (in which case: Is Plus! running at that moment?)?

No, I patched MSN messenger and yes plus! is running (the only thing that runs at start up if you understand what I mean). The funny thing is that after I did a restart that MSN and windows messengers both want to play. I guess I not gonna win with the laptop.......

Why not just run 2 MSN Messengers? :-/ I know its really annoying when windows messanger starts same time... There is a way to remove windows messenger tho.

Start->Run->RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

If you have SP1 (Service pack1) You'll get an OCX not registered error. Just click ok and it'll be uninstalled anyway :)

Hope that helped.

that was I was trying to do, but thepolygamy patch that I had/have on was causing the program to freeze or in some cases, opening the window and then when I moved the cursor over it, it dissappeared.

I don't think its wise to remove windows messenger because I'm certain I read somewhere that if a machine has windows messenger that MSN is dependent on some of the files/features. Besides, I didnt say it was annoying . It was that not even WM didn't want to load.

That's a bad way... Vazza is right when she said that MSN Messenger (and other programs like Outlook and even plugins from Plus!) depend on Windows Messenger's API's to function properly... see CookieRevised's reply to I am about to rip my hair out over MS Messanger

Vazza, I don't know what the problem could be other then that you used a bad patch...
