ok i put a cd in my drive and then it goes in and nothing happens... and when i look at My computer under hard disk drives i dont see my drive... only C:
I have Windows Xp Proffesional
Sp 2
(my cdrom always worked)

it sounds like you have to connect your cdrom drive, maybe the IDE CABLE or the POWER CABLE is not connected very well, or maybe your cdrom drive has gone

your cd-rom should be under drives with removable storage

hmm.. i got it fixed.. i love XP...
What i did was go to control pannel then add hardware.. then i looked for my drive but it was with a !. which means its corrupted or missing.. so then i went to troubleshoot which helped me step by step to uninstall and reinstall 
now it works yay
