Hello everybody,

Less than a month has passed since the last version of Messenger Plus! was released but I felt that this update had to be distributed now, for several reasons. First, because it includes several nice improvements to the Contacts on Desktop feature and I'm sure everyone will enjoy that (along with the bug fixes). Secondly, because this is is the last real update (see below) that will be released before the next, major one. With MSN Messenger 7 on its way, a lot of work has to be done to make Messenger Plus! entirely compatible and I want to be sure that you'll not only get compatibility but cool improvements that will give you another reason to upgrade to Messenger 7 when it will be available. The good news is that Microsoft recently granted me with an MSN MVP status which means that I'll be able to test Messenger Plus! on private beta versions, making sure that everything will be ready for the big day (or before).

This version is also a major step toward better user satisfaction. In the past couple of months, the count of Messenger Plus! users has increased dramatically and with it, the number of complains related to the optional sponsor program. Some people tend to think that the agreement is designed to fool people on purpose and, despite the fact that it is entirely untrue (there are so many "better" ways to deceive people, take a look at what you see on the internet nowadays), I've decided that the time had come to redesign the setup a little bit. In that sense, version 3.21 is also a test version. I will be testing several new versions of the sponsor agreement window with the hope of finding a better compromise between user satisfaction and revenues. In case that wouldn't be clear enough for some of the people who like to write pages about how awful I am on some forums/newsgroups , let me rephrase this: with version 3.21, I'll be trying to find ways to earn less money and this, only so that people can focus more about the features included in Messenger Plus! than its sponsor.

Very soon, when the tests will be over, I will release another version that will contain the final new look of the setup. The time has come for some people to remember that Messenger Plus! is not a spyware-filled junk but a full featured Messenger plugin. The optional adware is just here as a complement so that I can live my own life, it has nothing to do with Messenger Plus! itself. I hope this version (and the next) will make thisfact clear for everyone (for more details about this, you can read my recent post on this subject on the forum).

Just the mere fact that you keep releasing updates means that you are really devoted to your users, but now you also look for ways to improve the sponsor agreement screen, you've proven yourself to be a very good man

Hopefully, we will see less complaints and more compliments about the future versions - because compliments is what they more than deserve

hey patchou is it ok if i save msgplus 3.21 onto my comp then upload to my site and put it up for download  there ?

I've just installed the new version, and it came up one of the new sponsor installation screens. To be honest, I don't think there is any way people can mistakenly click the wrong one with the one I saw.

I really hope trying to make a few people happy doesn't impact too much on your income or your means of living

The new screen is certainly very clear and I hope it doesn't cost you too much money Patchou.  Time will tell I suppose.

Don't forget that there are several versions of the setup so many of you have probably seen somethign different . As I said, the final look will be released inversion 3.25, next weekend.Meanwhile, please refrain from mirroring anything (except maybe onr or two mirrors for people who can't access msgplus.net) or posting screenshots... I'll probably make several adjustements during the week to find the best compromise so nothing you see is final .

As for being an MVP, I got this priviledge at the beginning of the week

They only have a different installer with a different sponsor agreement screen. The features are all the same

Great job Patchou! Another fine release, as usual . Remember if you need help testing Plus! with Messenger 7, I (as well as a few others) are MVPs as well, and would be glad to test it with you, as some Messenger 7 features require both contacts to have Messenger 7. I look forward to the next release as well as testing the betas .

good job patchou found a bug tho  if you lock a contact in place then use that contact for the defult settings all contacts dont lock into place

Also from me: Very well done. Keep up the good work. Installed it a few minutes ago. Sponsor message very clear in dutch install set. I'm a newbee for Plus so i'm still trying new settings. Again: Keep on developing the extension and don't waste too much time defending the sponsor program installation... (Very good forum by the way!)

I was eagerly installing in hope that the new floating contacts would blink or change color when a message was received from that contact and the message window is not in focus, or as someone suggested, the buddy lcon would change to a buddy with a letter in his hand.

The reason is that I often have a fullscreen application running, so I don't see the flashing in the start line, but with the always on top icons I was hopeing to be able to see messages arriving.

Patchou, is this feature on your list of comming features?

Very good, all works fine. I like the new sponsor agreement window idea, the one that came with my setup is better than the old.


I hope all goes without problem in the development of the new version 3.25, that screenshot looks really good.

Good stuff! Can't wait until it's compatible with MSN Messenger 7 so I can then install it again on my main PC.

What I want to know is if this newest version is compatible with MSN 7/beta yet.

No. If you have MSN Messenger 7 beta and install it, you'll only see a compatibility information option in the menu, and the auto-update feature will be available. No functions will work.

Thanks for all the hard work patchou. I think this is somthing Id shell out a few $$ for as long I could use any upgrades also

wasn't the new version of msn plus comming out or is it delayed??? i heared and read that version 3.25 was going to be out this weekend so about now but it's till ot out!!!

Well, Stijn, new versions are usually released rather late in the day (GMT) on Sundays. I'm talking 10 or 11pm GMT, since Patchou is at GMT -5. If I ever released any software I'd do it in the evening as well
