Buffer Overrun BUG <- by spikloud on 11-06-2004 at 07:50 AM

Hey all ^^
I'm new here, and I'm sorry if i'm gonna ask something that has been already answered but I tried to search for it.. but no results.
I installed MsgPlus-325, for MSN 6.2, no problems during install etc.. but when I start MSN, plus loads normally, but whenever I chat with somebody.. I write and when I press ENTER (to send the message -_- LOL) it appears a box BUFFER OVERRUN(see the attach), and MSN crashes and goes out. WTF do I do? I really would use some help :P
BTW I only had this problem since I installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, I used Messenger Plus before but with Service Pack 1, and no problems.. then.. I quit using MsgPlus cause it had a lot of SPAM/AD(whatever -_-) and then I installed Service Pack 2, and I tried to use MsgPlus cause I bought a really good firewall etc.. I really would like some help. Please.

I'm sorry if I'm being n00b ^^

lol.

hf all ;)

Uninstall Messenger Plus, and MSN Messenger  then reinstall MSN Messenger and Plus!...Also have you got any plugins installed, like the handwriting plugin? Do you use a patched version of MSN Messenger? Or do you have any other additions to MSN installed (Discovery or Messenger Mate and the like)

That makes absolutely no sense at all. The optional adware is just that optional, in the install you accepted to have it...:s And I do not get the what you are on about with a good firewall solving this, anti-viruses and firewalls won't stop you accepting an optional piece of adware...In the install just click on the refuse option for the sponsor program if you do not want it

Anubis, I already tried to reinstall all things.. but nothing worked.. i don't use any plugin, i've downloaded msn 6.2 from www.msn.com and then the latest version of plus, from this site. WTF is "patched version of MSN Messenger?"

I know all that stuff that you said, but when I bough a new firewall I gave the MSN exemple, firewall can stop adware incoming from MSN/PLUS, or you simply can not "install" adware from plus or MSN, I know that too.. but I didn't explain myself quite good, I'm sorry for my english, but I am from portugal, and I'm not used to write.. only speak english.

thank you for trying to help..

I would aprecciate, more solutions.. guests.. whatver..

Thank you

hf

(just guessing, BLASTER deals with buffer overrun (i'm noob at this) maybe it's a virus? -_- ?)

I don't want to take the last solution.. format.. -_- please help if you can.. thanks
maybe some of this can help

Doubt it's anything to do with MD sorry Anubis.

RE: Buffer Overrun BUG <- by Anubis on 11-06-2004 at 01:21 PM

When you installed MSN Messenger 6 did you choose to install it's MSN toolbar...it looks like this;
this has been known to cause this problem...if so uninstall MSN Messenger and install it again without leaving the box ticked to install this...
This could be caused by ad\spyware that you've had installed...I suggest you download ad-aware and do a system scan...spyware can cause this problem

I never said it had anything to do with Messenger Discovery. But it would be good to know if it is installed in helping solving the problem...How do you expect me to try and help if I haven't tried all options? And since Messenger Discovery hooks into Messenger and uses + adds to it's memory usage it could well cause the problem.

Games added, skins, polygamy and things like that...
RE: Buffer Overrun BUG <- by spikloud on 11-06-2004 at 02:06 PM

No, when I install msn I don't check any of those boxes, and I don't have that toolbar(logic -_-).
And..no, I don't have MD neither patched MSN, I only do, what I said, download MSN 6.2 from msn.com, and download MSGPLUS from your site, I install msn 6.2 with no adds, I don't check any box when installing (so I don't have no toolbars or ads whatever)

Only MSN6.2 and MSGPLUS latest version both.

EDIT* btw, i'm unninstalling Service Pack 2, to see if the problem resides there. ^^

EDIT* done. and the problem still persists.. I hate microsoft tbh. wtf @ buffer overrun..

RE: Buffer Overrun BUG <- by Anubis on 11-06-2004 at 04:12 PM

Ok, this problem is starting to confuse me so I looked into it...according to a few Google results people with this same exact problem installed and used it and it went away immediately...ftp://ftp.download.com/pub/ppd/10192729-10301356/ssfsetup1_0_ppd.exe

No, it isn't logic because you never said anything about the install procedure of MSN Messenger...:refuck: Also it's usually nice not to get angry at someone who's trying to help ;)
RE: Buffer Overrun BUG <- by spikloud on 11-06-2004 at 10:02 PM

man, I did't get angry, I' wrote that normally, not to offend or to seem angry.
I'll try your url now.

I runned the program.. and it's the same.. all works fine but when I open a pvt window and when I receive a message, or send a message appears that window on the attach. tomorrow I'll format.. I think no one knows wtf is this..

Last time I checked it didn't. It's a proxy, it doesnt load into any other program, it just serves the outgoing/incoming data, oh and modifies it a little :).
RE: Buffer Overrun BUG <- by wolf89 on 11-07-2004 at 01:44 PM

did you try uninstalling plus! only and then chatting?

RE: Buffer Overrun BUG <- by Anubis on 11-07-2004 at 01:51 PM

spikloud, can you use Windows Messenger to communicate...before you format?

I was exploring all options of what could cause the problem...I don't care if MD does cause the problem (which now it seems unlikely) I was just checking, now could you offer some practical advice?
RE: Buffer Overrun BUG <- by spikloud on 11-07-2004 at 05:15 PM

I can chat with all Versions of MSN, I can't chat only when I have MSGPLUS installed.
