what is windows messenger needed for? i heard that u are not ment to remove it?

Some programs use parts of the windowsmessenger API, examples of those are remote assistance an some plugins for msg plus.

Not to my knowledge, since it aint required to run whilst using IE.

In fact, WinMsg uses IE for the SLL authentication.
Still, leave WinMsg installed: MSN depends on it, as do a variety of plugins (some of mine included).

I don't think so: it just allows you to launch it.
Microsoft seem to like making all their programs depend on parts of each other.

No, but it could significantly slow down Outlook (Express) (and as said previously, some Windows components depend on Windows Messenger in Windows XP).

i had removed it and my ie was really slow but when installing it again everything was ok 8-)*-):o
