hey i have problem on my hands, when ever i open up my DRive E: partition or My documents folder explorer automatically shuts it down and restarts and it wont let me go to my damn folders!!!  i has to do with Dr Watson Debugger, im pretty sure.  i just want to know how to delete files in the folder without actually going into the folder. some one please help me.

RE: deletiong files by RaceProUK on 11-22-2004 at 02:33 PM

Start > Run
Type "cmd" and hit Enter.
Then, use the command line to get to the folder and delete the files.
Useful commands:
<drive>: - Switch to that drive
    cd - change folder
    del - delete file

RE: deletiong files by Purity on 11-23-2004 at 03:24 AM

RE: deletiong files by Caboose on 11-23-2004 at 03:25 AM

RE: deletiong files by gnownoskcid on 11-23-2004 at 04:09 AM

Is your Windows OS installed on Drive e:?

if not try reformating drive e:
if yes, still try to reformat drive e: but you'll need to reinstall window |¬¬|

RE: deletiong files by Purity on 11-23-2004 at 04:23 AM

erg, i dont want my dad to find out tho! :(

AKKK

WAT TO DO??

RE: deletiong files by gnownoskcid on 11-23-2004 at 04:37 AM

do you know how to use command prompt? if you do, try this:

create a windows boot up disk
boot computer from disk
try accessing e: from there
(to find out if it's the drive's problem or something else)

if e: doesn't work, then you know e: is fried and need reformating no way out
if it does work, well it's something else then

I hope that helps, because you should be able to delete it w/o windows preventing it.

that doesn't help if he has a virus on the comp :dodgy:
RE: deletiong files by -dt- on 11-23-2004 at 09:20 AM

yes it does because safe mode dosnt load any startup items so the virus probly wont load

RE: deletiong files by Purity on 11-23-2004 at 01:56 PM

no i knwo it isnti  virus its just a corrupted file, when ever my  computer comes in contat with with like sees it or something while im scrolling it craasshes, and its just not my E drive its Mt docoments and My Music as well.  I had a partiion program and tried formatting hte partition and it said it didi it but it didint.:(

RE: deletiong files by Caboose on 11-23-2004 at 01:59 PM

Maybe you should boot off of the Windows CD then choose to reinstall the OS. It will just replace your system files, not format your HD or anything, and I've used it more then once with damn good results.

RE: deletiong files by Purity on 11-24-2004 at 04:19 AM

really?, hmmm, that would solve everything.
:D

Then why is there programs like reg mechanic when all u can do is reinstall windows or w/e

RE: deletiong files by Caboose on 11-24-2004 at 04:21 AM

I've never heard of Reg Mechanic, so I don't know. But repairing your Windows installation should work.

viruses can inject themselves in system files such as explorer.exe so safe mode can't do $#!+, but since it's not a virus then whatever

reinstalling OS won't solve anything since the hd is corrupted
make sure when you format your harddisk you are formating completely and not doing a quick format
if you did a real format and still doesn't work, you might want to try clearing the partitions and then reformat the hard disk

registry mechanics doesn't help in this situation, all it does is "clean" out the registry of any useless keys such as any useless keys or incorrect shortcut, it doesn't save a corrupted harddisk

EDIT: i shouldn't conclude that the hard disk is corrupted, maybe windows is corrupted, in that case, re-installing windows may work... Have you tried accessing the disk from command prompt yet?

noname22, before you go all format-frenzy, can you first be clear about:

What didn't work after which command? When you type "e:" did you go to the drive? When you type "cd that folder' did you go to that directory? Could you do "dir"? What errors dit you get? etc, etc...

RE: deletiong files by chris on 11-24-2004 at 07:12 AM

Well i would at least scan for viruses by getting a free virus scanner of your choice or u can do a free online scan at a couple places one that i always use is http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php

RE: deletiong files by Mike on 11-24-2004 at 12:57 PM

Try this simple program I made in 2 minutes.
It uses VB's simple Kill function.
I doubt that this will work but you can give it a try.
I know other 2 ways where you are able to delete a file.
If this doesnt work, then I'll program it to use another method to delete a file.

RE: deletiong files by Purity on 11-24-2004 at 11:52 PM

i tried the program but i got run time error 53 i think i need VB runtiemes.... n e wayz...wat it does is delete files without opening the folder??

its a currupted file i know it is!

i fixed it one time but i forget how. :'(

it gets corrupted when i try opening a file through limewire or winmx  drive  E: and my documents folder  are my download destination folders. im positive its not a virus. its a corrupted file.

Noname,

Reboot your PC again,
Press F5 while booting up
Select "Safe Mode with command prompt", login as admin, and...

Then, use the command line to get to the folder and delete the files.
Useful commands:
<drive>: - Switch to that drive
    cd - change folder
    del - delete file
So, you need do type:
e:<enter>
dir abcdefg<enter>
del e:\path_to_file_you_want_to_delete\file_you_want_to_delete<enter>

Example for that last command, if you want to delete the file bogus.txt in the directory "the map", you need to type:
del e:\the map\bogus.txt

After all this take a screenshot and post it... Don't worry if you get an error after some commands, still make the screenshot and post it (or if you don't know how, make a post and type EXACTLY EVERYTHING you've seen on your screen.)

Click Start -> Run and type "cmd" (no quotes)

RE: deletiong files by CookieRevised on 11-30-2004 at 01:22 PM

What is "Skin Ticket"? If it is a program or something, try to uninstall, before you're going to delete it....
