Scripting & Bots by JDawg_0789 on 12-02-2004 at 01:41 AM

Hey...just one quick question.  I work on the msgplus IRC server, and I was wondering if anyone had any decent scripts compatible with a Windows 98SE Operating System and mIRC v6.16.  Also...if anyone is halfway decent at making bots, I need some additional help with that also.  If anyone has any ideas, you can catch me on the IRC server (nick JDawg_0789), reply to this thread, or email me at Josh.JDawg0789@gmail.com

Thnx in advance!

You work on the MsgPlus IRC network? How much do you get paid?

Scripts are compatible with any operating system that mIRC works on if they don't use external DLLs, and as you may or may not know, mIRC has a very powerful built in scripting engine which most scripts find sufficient to do what they're meant to.

Two of the best websites with mIRC scripts available for the general public to download are mIRC.net and mIRCscripts.org.

If you want to make a bot in mIRC script and you can't make it yourself, all I can say is: don't. You can try Windrop (for Windows), or if you have access to a Linux shell, eggdrop. You can maybe even try find one for mIRC on one of those mIRC scripting websites mentioned above.

NoNameScript is scum, the creators should be condemned to the depths of hell.

Thats a well stuctured opinion care to expand on it

I like NNscript although it does have a lot of features you won't use at all.  Modifying  NNscript a little bit to your own needs provides you with a good script for a newbie to the irc world

NoNameScript completely takes over mIRC. You lose all your settings, scripts and any customisations you may have made. Further customisation is only possible using NoNameScript's themes/etc and creating scripts is annoying because of the way NoNameScript works.

Its themes are ugly, it causes mIRC to take an insanely long time to start up, it uses a lot of CPU time due to mIRC parsing the tens of thousands of lines of script contained within it and it stops displaying important info in the status window.

Hence why uber scripters such as Segosa have made much better ones, right?

I have tried NNS, and I must say that there isn't a real need for it. You should be able to just make a script for anything you need as you go along, I find that if I do something quite often, I'll just build a simple script for it. With the exception of my NickServ script (which didn't work for some stupid reason) that I've replaced with someone else's, and Segosa's "Now Playing" script, everything else is mine.

You also feel much prouder when you make stuff yourself. Even if mIRC isn't a real language.

I personally think that all those all-around mIRC "scripts" are just silly. They are created and used just for the sake of having a modified mIRC packed with (mostly) useless/annoying stuff.

(Somehow this reminds me of that thread about car modding...:P)

My "philosophy": Only if you need/want something in particular, find or create the specific code for it. The only use I can find for NNS is learning scripting techniques from it (or stealing a specific piece of code:refuck:).

:/ i think the water theme in NNS looks nice.... seggy, or any of you, make me something that looks identical kthx :P n something that doesnt use so much CPU....
not that i use mirc anymore.... but still :P Jdawg.... its not working, its volunteering... ive been doing so for 2years ;o

I'm sorry, but I'm curious, please tell us why you wrote your own client since there doesn't seem to be anything in this thread complaining about mIRC itself.

because I can add what I want to it, it has infinite possibilites without having to make scripts :P

? This thread is so off topic.

What was the original discussion again? Something about how NNS sucked?

We never said it wasn't possible to add what you want to mIRC. In fact, NNS is an example of what can be done. Anything.
