Getting a laptop - Recomendations? by dotNorma on 12-02-2004 at 11:58 PM

My friend , TylerG, is getting a new laptop and would like some opinions. He has been saving up a while and is looking to buy around Christmas time. He is looking for something cheap (Around $1,200 USD).

At first we were leaning towards an iBook , but Mac OS X just isn't for him. Gahh , Its a shame that we can't switch it to Windows XP! Apple is so good at designing hardware.

He has been looking into E-Machine and Sony Vaios.

Please post , And thanks for the opinions ahead of time. :)

How much money are we talking? And for what purpose?

Sony Vaio isn't bad, but their lower end machines aren't great either.
DO NOT let him buy an E-Machines, they suck.
I suggest Dell, they have good machines, a good price and good product support.

IMO he should waituntil he can buy a more high-end machine, otherwise he'll prob. regret it later. Go for a Dell, Toshiba, HP or Sony.

But this isn't for gaming , We don't want a gaming laptop. Thats why we have Gamecube.

Well, its a suggestion. :P

I would go Dell, but upgrade it, don't order the default setup. They always blow.

8-) He just said it's not for gamming

Anyways, Dell does have specific machines for gamming if that's what you're looking for.
