i never realli used windows messenger so i never ran into this problem, until a couple of months ago, i asked marissa if she had the same problem, but she didnt (this was after installing the first plus! 3.40 plublic beta), so i just ignored it, now i updated my version of windows messenger, but this problem still persists, an it has got to do with plus! since if i end the process then i can use WM normally 
anyway here is the problem

I've looked at this also and it works fine for me. 
Maybe it has something to do with your windows skin?
