Well...I'm hosting a whole bunch of skins for the latest MSN Messenger Beta build (7.0.0425) , and thought I would share them with people. They're in .rar format, so all you have to do is extract them to the MSN Messenger directory (Generally C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger for most English versions of Windows) and that's MSN skinned. I would suggest using WinRAR to extract them which can be found at http://www.rarlabs.com. Simply click the skin name to download the skin.

1st Note: I have not included any .dll files in the .rar archives, so anyone can use these skins and keep MSN the same language as they have it just now.

2nd Note: If any of the creators of the skins do not want me to host the updated files, I will take them down, simply e-mail me on andrew@jaymach.com and it will be done

3rd Note: Some of the skins will have French tabs instead of the default ones. To solve this problem, simply download the MessPatch which can be found here.

4th Note: For anyone wanting Polygamy (although most of the skins already have it installed), simply download the MessPatch also, which as I said can be found here.

It's possible that the creator of that skin has disabled winks. I've never bothered looking myself. I beleive you would have to edit some Hex values to get them active again though.

Oh and updated the post to include XIX MSN, though I don't have a preview yet.

I've installed the WMP Skin. It's really cool Download It The conv. window ROXXXXX! also

Updated the first post to include Futuristic MSN and Pink MSN. I would also include Fire MSN, Green Skin, and Multicolour MSN, but their installers don't work for me for some odd reason so I can't.

Winks are working fine now ... also buzz' works OK in Pink Skin now

how can you install the skin? i downlaoded the rar file and it has a lvlbak picture file and msngr.exe... i clicked on the msngr.exe but it just opened my msn messenger window? how does it work? do i have to re-install messenger?

You need to extract the 'msnmsgr.exe' file (and lvback.gif if you want a background image in your convo window) into your C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger directory (just make sure you back up your original msnmsgr.exe first )

You're correct...OSXMSN was the beta release...I just haven't gotten round to taking the file down.

I was wondering guys, what do ya'll think about the longhorn skin...I think its great, but I would love to have the inspirat contact windows with the areo contact list, they wud look good together, personally im not a fan or the inspirat contact list

Just to let you know (not sure whether it's the skin or msn, although it was ok before I installed the skin) I have the longhorn inspirat skin and when i move my mouse over a contact, the custom colours disappear till I close and open the contact list again

would'nt it be nice if we could have a msg plus skin, is it possible to make (i know its probably not easy but it would be nice if there was one)

Patchou is not allowing anyone to use Messenger Plus! images in an MSN skin as skinning is technically illegal, and so he does not want Messenger Plus! associated with it in any way in case Microsoft tries to link the two together to shut down MSN is what I heard last time someone mentioned it.

Yes, I'm afraid I've had to stop hosting skins, at least temporarily, as it's eating up too much of my monthly bandwidth allowance. However, almost all of these skins can be found on TheBlasphemers Skin Manager, which can be found at MSNThemes.com, and I will be adding more skins to it as soon as I get access to my PC again.

Is there no skin of iTunes. Are the skins avaible with the last beta (7.0.0604)?

In the WMP's preview, there is a small button near block button. What does it do? Is there this same button in 6.x? (I havn't used 6.x for so long but I remember seeing 3 small buttons.)

Please uninstall any skin or mod you have installed. Make sure you are installing the skin on an original unmodified version of MSN Messenger. To have a clean version simply reinstall/repair the original MSN Messenger. The latest version can always be found at http://messenger.msn.com

What are skins:
Skins are exactly what the word says: 'skins' (aka 'altered looks'). They 'wrap around' a normal program to make it look different. If you wanna know how MSN Messenger skins can look, then take a look at the previews in the first post of this thread (if the bandwidth allows it)


How to make skins:
You must be very experienced in hex editing and resource editing. If you don't know what that means, then don't even bother thinking about skinning MSN Messenger, it isn't easy.

How to install a skin:
First make absolutely sure you have the correct version of the skin. Skins are version dependent. A skin made for 7.0.425 will NOT work on 7.0.605, etc...

Second, make sure you have a clean install of MSN Messenger, thus without any patches (this isn't always needed, but it often is)...

Then follow exactly the instructions given in the installer of the skin or in the 'readme' file that comes with it...


What's the bussiness with those .RAR and .ZIP files:
Those are archives which contain the actual needed files, and you need an archive extractor like WinZip or WinRar to extract the files from it. Also see the first post in this thread.

But tbh, if you don't know what archives are and how to deal with them, then you maybe aren't ready to start fiddling with skins...


I get a "Could not find offset to match!" error
Do as suggested: uninstall any skin or patch you already have installed. Make absolutely sure you are installing the skin on an original unmodified version of MSN Messenger and that you have the correct version of the skin for your MSN Messenger version.

To have a clean unmodified version of MSN Messenger to install your skin on, simply reinstall/repair the original MSN Messenger.


I can't download the skins from the first post in this thread:
JaymachRalTir, the creator of this thread, has already clearly stated several times that his bandwidth on his site, which hosts the skins, is limited and runs out quickly.

You can still try to click on the preview link to see if it will take you to another site. Some listed skins in the first post have screenshots on their own official site and thus are linked to there. In that way you can browse the official site for that skin and find an installer for the skin if available...

Other sources for skins are:

Can anyone download any of the skins listed here? I can't.... it says to just click and when I do a new browser window opens and it sayd page can not be displayed. I tried doing the "save target as" and it says can not find file or w/e. SO, is anyone else having trouble or am I just not savvy with how to download?

Ok I'm having a hard time and need help. I found all your skins for the msn beta version but can't download any of them. Why is it that every one I click on say's page cannot be displayed??? Love msn but hate the look of it and am getting really frustrated!! Please help.
