Help me! boot.ini issue! by .blade// on 12-09-2004 at 11:55 PM
I was cleaning up my system (I had 2 OS's registered that no longer existed) and I somehome fuxored up my boot.ini. It only wants to boot the OS on my primary HDD (C:\), which is a no-longer properly working copy of Longhorn 4074 (I can boot in safe mode but I can basically only use task manager and the run command to launch some programs).
I need it to boot my primary OS which is located on the D:\ drive (Windows XP)
Longhorn 4074 is located on C:\ (which is not partitioned with any other OS's)
Windows XP is located on D:\ (which is not partitioned with any other OS's)
Help me!!!!!!
Edit: Nevermind guys, I managed to fix it after 2 hours of TRYING to do something on Longhorn 4074 (which I also fixed ).
A 1 where a 0 should have been was fucking up my boot.ini

For people in the future if you boot off of your Windows XP installation CD you will have an option for R for Repair. If you press R you will be taken to DOS (so to speak.)
It asks what Windows Installation you want to log into. Press the button Corresponding to C:\Windows
type your admin password
then at the prompt you should be able to type fixboot and it should repair the boot.ini for all windows installs.

I did that several times. I did fixboot and fixmbr.

If that didn't work then in safe mode start > run > msconfig > boot.ini tab > check all boot paths.
it will return a good or bad and it should fix the bad.

but you see, that's what happened. I did that in the first place and it deleted XP, leaving only Longhorn
And I couldn't even get into safe mode for XP, I could only get to Longhorn.
