guess wat? I have just found YET ANOTHER bug! First, my friend sent me messenger plus, and I thought, wow, it's great. But then, when I signed out then back on later, guess what? Loads of spyware programs and spam and things like 'Poker!!!' and 'Online Casino!!!' had appeared.... ON MY DESKTOP! Then I found out that it hadn't survived me logging off and on again... I had to reinstall it! And to top it off, the poppups are in the wrong place! Curse this horrible extention. I'm getting rid of it and waiting for the de-bugged version. quote:Hi cute_blonde1992, It seems while installing Messenger Plus! you have installed the sponsor program by mistake: you selected I ACCEPT, install the sponsor in the installation program. Please note this is not spyware it's simply a small search bar for Internet Explorer so Patchou (the creator of Messenger Plus!) can make a living off it... If before doing the below you have attempted to remove the sponsor program by any other method, like spyware and adware removal tools, messed around in the registry or tried to delete files you must install Messenger Plus! again with the sponsor program before doing this... To uninstall it go to Add/Remove Programs in the control panel and double click on "Messenger Plus!" (or click on Remove). Then "Messenger Plus! - Setup" is displayed. Click on the Uninstall button. after a couple of seconds, the program will ask you if you want to keep your preferences, it is suggested to say "Yes". Then you'll be asked to type in the number displayed in the box then click Uninstall. Now you must click Yes when asked to confirm the uninstall...If you're asked to close Internet explorer or any program do so. Now restart your computer and the sponsor program will be gone. A video version (made by traxor) of this can be downloaded here If it is not gone by this stage and you have thoroughly done all of the above please use this application to uninstall it http://lop.com/new_uninstall.exe... Also you can make a new thread instead of going off-topic RE: [split] the sponsor program again by Sam Spade on 12-23-2004 at 01:20 PM
quote:NOT. It also changes your home page, generates pop up advertisements, adds links to your favorites, adds icons on your desktop and adds another Passthrough toolbar if you dare change the new home page back to your original choice. quote:Those can all be changed, the only software installed is the toolbar...And what you're saying is unclear are you saying it is spyware? RE: [split] the sponsor program again by Sam Spade on 12-23-2004 at 01:47 PM
quote:I'm saying it is not 'simply a small searchbar'. It also changes your home page, generates pop up advertisements, adds links to your favorites, adds icons on your desktop and adds another Passthrough toolbar if you dare change the new home page back to your original choice. 1. How do you 'change' the Passthrough toolbar and popup windows? 2. If 'the only software installed is the toolbar' where are the popup windows coming from? quote:Not when its described as ''simply a small searchbar'. The easiest way to answer your question is to disable the 'small searchbar' (you know, that silver thing that takes up the entire width of the screen) and nothing else, and see if the popups continue Of course, you will need to work out how to disable just the toolbar, without affecting anything else, including that damned irritating passthrough bar, not an easy thing for the inexperienced. I know the answers, I'm simply waiting to see how deep this particular hole goes... I'm also looking forward, with interest, to Anubis' advice as to how to 'change' the search bar, the pop up advertisements or the passthrough bar (which re-enables itself every time IE is restarted), none of which have a 'turn off' feature. BTW, do either of you have the Sponsor Program installed? If so, how long have you been using it for? RE: [split] the sponsor program again by user27089 on 12-23-2004 at 04:53 PM
Its not only this, but this is the easiest way to describe it as it is the only real major change of the adware... quote: The shortcuts are simply desktop shortcuts to websites, not very bad, they are installed with the toolbar but are only shortcuts to the site, only shortcuts are added, nothing more, its like having a url on a webpage that you can press, only on your desktop tbfh... The popup windows are generated by the toolbar so they can earn money??? simply adware for you I can't believe how you act, its merely stupid, why can't you listen to us for once, we haven't been drugged into believing these things, we know what it is, a few of us from first hand experience who have actually listened to other members of this forum and uninstalled it with ease, just please, stop being so arrogant, and listen to us for once, the things we are saying are not fictional, its all the truth... How can you disable it without uninstalling it.. and btw, saying it takes up your whole screen is completely ludacris, of course it would!! its a toolbar, it will take up the width if your browser is maximised will it not??? You think you know the answers, you may know them, but what you know, are ways of uninstalling it the uneasy way, its just stupid tbh... Why not do it our way.. the simple way?? Rather than digging into it, trying to find out as much as you can, there is no need to do so.... Why are you looking forwards to Anubis' reply, all you want his reply for is so that you can contradict him?? You're 38, just grow up seriously... My advice is, if you've used any adware removal programs, then reinstall messenger plus! with the sponsor program, then uninstall plus! again, after this, you can reinstall plus! without the sponsor program hastl free... Sam, I have installed the sponsor program multiple times, with no hastle with uninstallation or it magically reinstalling itself at all, I can assure you, this is not as bad as it seems at all, its a small bundled package that is easily removable.. you're just making it difficult for yourself that is all.. RE: [split] the sponsor program again by Concord Dawn on 12-23-2004 at 05:22 PM I would like to point out to everyone that whining that people are whining about the sponsor isn't going to get us anywhere. If we just fix the problem, the person is happy and it proves that the other person was wrong anyways. So stop wasting your time bickering, do what your here to do, fix the problem. |
