hi
i have lost my encryption password for my chat logs is there still a way of gaining access to these logs??? or resetting my password i have been able to reset the password on the preferences screen but not for the encrypted chat logs

No, there isn't because that would make the password protection prety useless 
Unfortunately, if you don't know your password you're out of luck.

yeah thanks mate....i thought that might be the case.....just got some impoortant info in there that i need and thought it was worth a try to ask

Did you enable chat logging in MSN Messnger's options page? If you did, maybe you can try to access it...But most probably you wont, cause it would be useless to encrypt one, but forget protection for the other one 
...

Having misplaced my password, I can't access the 'preferences screen'. I am resigned to losing all my chat logs, but how do I reset the password? Do I need to uninstall and then reinstall.. ? Thanks

If you are unfamiliar with regedit just uninstall with the option ticked to remove all settings and reinstall.
