What exactly are you trying to update your definitions or your antivirus.  Try going thru the symantec support database and see if that helps you at all.

afaik, If you install SP2 then you need to get NAV2005.

NAV2004 had serious issues with it,, update to 2005

* Dane should be a Symantec Certified Professional

Norton AntiVirus 2004 updating issues with Service Pack 2 are most likely caused by Windows Firewall.  I strongly encourage you to update to Norton AntiVirus 2005 which includes better support for Windows XP Service Pack 2.

The other thing yuou can try remove NAV completely including registry entries, Live Update, Folders in the program files and try reinstalling it from scratch.  I did that with Systemworks 2003 and it was fine.  It's just a pain in the ass took me 30min going thru that damn registry.
