Howdy...i was thinking can i install 2 operative systems in one HD...let's imagine i have a partition does it need to be i installed in the partition?if it's another windows version?would i need to install drivers again?thanks RE: 2 OS by Choli on 01-09-2005 at 08:02 PM
yes, you can install several OSes in the same HD, each one of them in one partition. You can install, for example, Windows 98 and Windows XP, or Windows and Linux, or the three. However that isn't trivial. In the instalation of each OS, you have to tell where you want to install it (in which partition) and you have to do things very carefully. An error would be fatal. The OSes should be installed in some order to avoid (minimize) the problems: MS-DOS then Windows 9x or ME, then Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 and finally Linux. quote:yes. and i also suggest you install all the programs again- RE: 2 OS by Jhrono on 01-09-2005 at 08:12 PM hm..so well lets sugest i'd install...i dont know...longhorn beta...i'd have to install it in a partition and everysingle program again?caint i work with the old ones in the main hd?i know they arent registred but wont they work? I would suggest not to but if u wanna then .... u need 2 os's of different bases like 1 has to be NTFS(Win xp) and the other FAT 32 (win 95,98,me) quote:U need to install everything again in both os's. No other option. U can't / shouldnt run progs installed in one os from another. RE: 2 OS by Choli on 01-09-2005 at 08:27 PM
quote:the problem is that each windows you install, has its own registry, and then if you have in windows xp the office suite, when you try to run ti from longhorn, he programs (word, etc...) will try to access the registry and they won't find the needed entries and won't work. You can try to install again the programs in the same place where they're installed in the other OS, overwritting them, but i highy unrecommend this, because it may not work. On the other hand, if you want to install XP and longhor, you'll have to install them in primary partitions (either with fat32 or ntfs) but when you boot one of them, the partition of the other has to be hidden. It's known that Windows'es can't handle properly 2 visible primary partitions * at the same time. *-> 2 partitions that they can recognice (nfts, fat32). You can have an NTFS and an EXT2 primary partitions and all will go fine. |
