Boss protection Bug!? by To1ne on 01-12-2005 at 01:26 PM

Hello,

I don't really know if this is a bug:
When boss-protection is activated, there are no popups anymore when someone signs in, or when i recieve a mail. But the notification sounds still work.

"My boss" can't see someone signs in, but still can hear it!

Maybe you can select this option to choose sounds on/off!?

I'm using:
Msg Plus v3.25.106
MSN Messenger v6.2.0137

Grtz,
To1ne

Nah man this is not a bug it is programmed to be like this you'll just have to turn the volume down man.

Yeah, could be, but actually I don't like it!

Patchou, is it possible to disable this in a option??

Grtz,
To1ne

I would have added it Larry, the problem is that I can't... the only thing I could do is turn off the volume of the whole computer and it would not suit everyone (I know some people use this mode to play games). Sorry!

Damn!

I have an idea (don't want to be the smart guy), and don't know if it works:

In the options of MSN (which are actually standaard in Windows) you can select your sounds for MSN (for login on, someone signs in, mail received...). Well isn't it possible to make a sound-theme (don't realyl know how to say this is propper english) we're all sounds are disabled (with or without all other windows sounds), and select this theme in boss-protection mode. Maybe not the most simple sollution, but it could work!
I hope you understand my idea...?

To make it real clear (I hope), go to "Control Panel" -> "Sounds and audio-devices" (or something like that) -> 2e tab "Sounds" there are several sound-profiles (I think profiles is the word I was looking for) which you can select, add, delete... .

Sorry for the long explanation (I think you're busy enough with this forum)...

Btw, don't laugh at my Larry!!

And I still love your work on Msg Plus!!!

Grtz,
To1ne

Well, I can't change the sound scheme so easily from Messenger Plus!, but it was a good idea. Maybe I'll jsutadd an option to turn off the main volume when going in boss protect mode, I'll add that to my todo list :).

1. Copy out the contents of HKCU\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\MSNMSGR to a key under the HKCU MsgPlus settings.

2. Iteratively set  the default value in HKCU\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\MSNMSGR\<keyname>\.Current  to a blank string.

3. On return from boss mode, or when MsgPlus restarts (in case of a crash), write back the values you copied out in step 1.

I saw you can disable notifications for the folowing events:
Someone signs in, new message received, new mail received..

And it isn't possible to make MsgPlus! disable these functions for me??
Patchou, you're a great man, you can do this...

Unfortunately no, not that easily... I can change the registrys ettings however, Messenger won't use them as long as it's not restarted. As I said, I'll keep your suggestion for future updates :)

There has to be a way to force Messenger to pick up new sound settings, since changes made in the control panel are recognized right away.  What about sending it WM_SETTINGCHANGE?
