I think this has more to do with the MSN server than plus!, but this happened to me....right now 
(I think MSN signed but there was an error while in while in BPM, then signed out - leaving the desktop contacts sort of there).

This bug (and similar ones) have been reported for quite sometime and I'm happy to say this: it's been fixed
