hmm... i dont know what to say. thats weird.
i also get a message in - red letters, saying "unsigned" but its allows me to install the extensions..
- are you installing the extensions from the official mozilla website?
here is some info if you are not: i got it from this website
"You may run into problems if you try to install an extension from anything but the official Mozilla site. That's because the security measures built into FireFox don't allow just any site to install programs on your computer. A good thing I think you'll agree.
However you can get around the problem by telling FireFox the site is OK. To do that select Tools/Options/Web features/ and click on the Allowed Sites button. You can then add the address of the extension download site to the list of authorized sites. Remember to click the "Add" button after you type in the web address.
Another little problem you may encounter is that some extension sites don't offer an "install" option but instead offer a download link. In these cases download the file to your PC. Then, from within FireFox select File/Open file and load the installation file you downloaded. This will install the file. Note that FireFox extension installation files have a file type of .xpi."
Edit: sorry, i searched for your type of problem and i'm kind of assuming the info i posted above might not help

thanks for the info: Z_Joanna_ZZZ
1.yeh i'm downloading them from the offfical site
2.and addons.mozilla.org is on the allow list anyway
3. the ones i am trying to download have the direct install option.

were you able to get extensions before? or has this problem been occuring since the first instalation of firefox?
Edit: because i'm thinking this:
if you had pervious extensions, did you update them? - this could be causing the problem
did you uninstall them prior to reinstalling firefox? - maybe one of the previous extensions is screwing something up..
also, this is a long shot but maybe if you have a firewall it is blocking firefox from installing correctly

RE: firefox extensions problem by Joa on 03-04-2005 at 05:49 PM
did you remove it manually? (sorry for asking stupid questions but sometimes stuff like that can cause a big problem)
if you did, try uninstalling it again with "remove/add programs" which u can find in the control panel.. cuz maybe something got left behind and is causing this
also, did you install/uninstall anything around the time when firefox frist started acting up?

It might be a profile problem, possibly. So if you want to try the following:
1. Select Start > Run...
2. Type '%appdata%' (without quotes) and hit Enter.
3. Navigate into Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles.
4. Optional: Go into each folder and copy 'bookmarks.html' (i.e. back up your Favourites).
5. Delete ALL folders in Profiles with Firefox CLOSED.
6. Start up Firefox and make a new profile.
If you backed up a bookmarks.html file, then you can restore it by going to the Profiles folder like above, and placing bookmarks.html in what should be the only folder in there.
Hope this helps

wasn't there a really simple way around the extension problem last update?
like typing about:config then changing a number from 0.10 to 0.9 say
at least thats what i remember

But with that you may mess up other stuff.
