I just changed my desktop, and the icons got like this(i mean the part of the icon name is not transparent..and it was before)..(OMG THIS IS SO NOOBISH)..how can i change iy to transparent? RE: Dodgy White Square by Joa on 03-15-2005 at 04:37 PM
Go to the 'control panel' click on system, and under the advanced tab click on 'settings' under the performance label --> than scroll down the list and check the box beside "use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" RE: Dodgy White Square by Jhrono on 03-15-2005 at 04:39 PM That's checked...i've loaded another wallpaper and the same happens.. Do you have to enabled it each time you change a background then? There's a tool i saw when i was searching for you that said it can do it for you, so if you want the link just ask RE: Dodgy White Square by Joa on 03-15-2005 at 04:45 PM
is your active desktop on? because if it is, than this will cause the problem.. RE: Dodgy White Square by Zephyr on 03-15-2005 at 04:46 PM
Right click on the desktop and go to arrange icons by and make sure that 'lock items on desktop' is unchecked. RE: Dodgy White Square by Jhrono on 03-15-2005 at 07:50 PM

did you go to the link i gave u? RE: Dodgy White Square by tomfletcherman on 03-15-2005 at 08:29 PM It is definately related to having active desktop items enabled, because I reported the problem a while back, and realised active desktop is the problem. monster.rat was right btw...: quote: If I turn that option on, the 'squares' around the shortcut names appear, and when I turn it off they disappear... RE: Dodgy White Square by Jhrono on 03-15-2005 at 09:41 PM i tried that nothing happened...but the boot really worked RE: Dodgy White Square by CookieRevised on 03-16-2005 at 01:03 AM
quote:no, not entirely.... There are three causes for the 'problem': Cause 1 (as Joa said): You have "Active Desktop" enabled Fix: Disable "Active Desktop": * Uncheck "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" in Control Panel > System Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings Cause 2 (as Joa said): You're using a PNG with a transparancy channel as a background or an animated GIF file. Fix: Make sure the background image doesn't have any transparancy channel or isn't an animated GIF. Note that a PNG without any transparant pixels can still have a transparancy channel though and that a GIF file can appear static, but still contain an animation. Use decent graphic programs to check these things. Cause 3 (as monster.rat said): You have enabled "Lock Web Items on Desktop" feature Fix: Disable "Lock Web Items on Desktop": * Right click on your desktop and choose "Arrange Icons", there uncheck "Lock Web Items on Desktop" --------------- Joa posted the correct link with all the info about it: (edit: updated link) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305117/ |
