apatch does not replace plus!, it is a patch for msn, both can be used
if you have plus! already installed you don't need to uninstall it to use apatch
Edit:
make sure you follow all the rules, and read the directions correctly

No.
Plus! is an add-on, while A-Patch is a patch
Plus! adds functionalities to Messenger, and A-Patch changes how Messenger looks like, ex. removing buttons, etc.
You don't install A-Patch.
It's an application that helps you to remove the buttons.
You can still use Plus!

I asked about it because it has some features in common with Plus! like banner removal.
Another question: I currently have MSN v6.2.0205 installed together with Plus! v3.50.124 (both latest versions).
I'm eager to install the newly released MSN v7.0.0777, but my concern is that I have some cool addons working with my current MSN like a plugin that notifies me when a contact opens a conversation window with me or when a contact deletes me from his list. I installed these long tome ago and I can't remember their names. Can anyone tell me if these plugins exist for the new MSN 7 and where to download?
Thanks.

you can find plugins here:
http://www.msgplus.net/pluginsdb/down/?
so far they all seem compatible with the new msn 7
you can find bug reports and othe things on here, using search - and probably just by putting in the plugin name.
Edit: if you have very old plugins, i'd suggest personally removing them before you upgrade to msn 7.
they should not be a harm, and theoretically they won't cause any problems, but seeing as some things were not compatible with msn 7 beta... and you have not tried it before (with those plugins) i would uninstall the plugins first and add the one's from the link i gave you above.
also, another alternative to see which work.. is upgrading to msn 7, keeping the plugins and getting rid off the ones that cause problems, though if you have many installed.. it may be a problem to detect which one is the cause for errors etc.

FYI, Plus! doesn't remove any banner anymore.
However, Patches do.
The plugin you're talking about is StuffPlug.
But, SPNG 2 (for MSNM 7) doesn't have open convo window notifier anymore.
SPNG does remove ad banners, too.
http://www.stuffplug.com
But, you still have another alternative, which is openConvo.

theKid, thanks for those links...I'll try them.
Joa, how do I uninstall my current plugins? From Control Panel/Add/Remove Program list or within the MSN Plus! or MSN menu?
Thanks.

mmm, it seems that plugins are uninstalled by deleting the corresponding dll's from the program files/messenger plus!/plugins folder

This deletes the plugin so if you want it again you would have to download it again. Another way is to go to preferecnes in plus, then plugins, then uncheck the plugins that you don't want. This way allows you to easily check the plugin again if you want to use it.
