Website problem by rpjenner on 04-18-2005 at 04:18 PM

I can't seem to access the Messenger Plus website.  Everytime I click on the link I get "the page cannot be displayed".  Does anybody know why this is?

Use Mozilla Firefox ;)

It might be something in your HOSTS file, can you please PM me a copy of it so that I can check it over for you? Your HOSTS file is located in C:\Windows\Drivers\Backup\etc\ and is called hosts (no extension).

When using Firefox a box came up saying "the connection was refused" or something along those lines.  However, removing the www. from the address on both IE and Firefox did the trick.  So thank you for your help :).

You may want to check your HOSTS file anyway, as that's probably blocking the www version.

In the "HOSTS" file, this can be found C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/ then open the "HOSTS" file in notepad, and get rid of everything apart from the following:

code:
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
# For example:
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host
127.0.0.1       localhost

thanks a lot!
don't know if you meant that, but it was enough to delete the
www.msgplus.net files from the HOSTS files
:)
