Virus Through MSN Messenger by joyceawh on 04-20-2005 at 03:00 AM

Does everyone know has a virus will through MSN MESSENGER send to your friends. I just got the virus through my friend's messenge, I thought is my friend send me an URL but actually that's a virus. It'll auto send the virus to your friends after you "run" the installer. I'd forgotten the URL, but i wish everyone becareful of that

We are fully aware but thanks for the friendly reminder.

The url ends in .pif

Also please note that you posted in the wrong forum. This is for Messenger Plus! Help and Support. You would have wanted to post this in MSN/Windows Messenger.

The MSN Messenger should block these although if you have the unblocking patch.. be warned!

Does it block URL Links?
RE: Virus Through MSN Messenger by Messer on 04-20-2005 at 01:07 PM

The block does not block URLs, just files being sent.

There is a fix for this virus:

MSNMessengerattach421.exe is a suspected threat that I am currently analyzing and have sent to another researcher to help with.  I believe that this file is a new virus and will post an update when/if confirmed.

the name jus sounds dodgy.... isn't there a way to send it to symantec or someone instead of risking your computer :|

tru.dat

Don't accept any links from people you don't know, and always make sure that the link has the right extension for the type of file their sending/linking. If they send you a picture and it's a .exe, that should put up a big warning flag. As always, common sense is the best antivirus.
