I don't think that there is any way of hiding the administrator, why don't you just change the name of the administrator so that they don't know which one to choose, and add a password to it? It would be easy, just go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts then in there press on the administrator icon,  then press "Change My Name" and change it to what you wish...

It isn't really hiding it as such, but more of putting a "mask" on who is the administrator...

RE: How do you hide a administrator by Nathan on 04-26-2005 at 04:42 PM

how do u put a mask on it then cos i no my mum has hidden a admin account b4 so who do i hide 1

RE: How do you hide a administrator by user27089 on 04-26-2005 at 04:50 PM

I just told you how to put a mask on it, it's not hiding it at all, it's just changing the name to something completely unrelated or whatever, then they won't know...

I really couldn't tell you how you hide it, I didn't know you could, because if you did, then you wouldn't be able to configure anything, and that isn't a good idea :s...

RE: How do you hide a administrator by Nathan on 04-26-2005 at 04:54 PM

no wot i mean is
you can have a account that is hidden from the normal windows screen but when you click Ctrl Alt Del it comes up another windows box which you then enter then name of the account and pass and that is the only way of getting it up you cant even see it in the user accounts

RE: How do you hide a administrator by user27089 on 04-26-2005 at 04:57 PM

Oh, I understand now, go to Control Panel > User Accounts then in there, press "Change the way that users log in" then uncheck "Show the welcome screen".

Cough or you can create a hidden administrator account so that your mom wont get suspicious.

You would want to create a user account with Administrator Access. Then follow the steps on this page to hide it from the welcome screen.

http://www.petri.co.il/hide_a_user_from_the_welco..._in_windows_xp.htm

To access this account all you need to do is at the welcome screen press CTRL+ALt+DEL and type in the username :)/

it was but there is a easyer way

you do this: start > control panel > peformance and maintence > in other icons > administrative tools > computer management > local users and groups (along the side) > users > right click on administrator > change password > once changed > log off totally > click Ctrl Alt Del twice > enter Administrator (with capital A) > then the password you choose

That just changes the administrator accounts password, he want to make another user, make it an administrator and then hide it from the Welcome Screen...

The link that ~INVISION~ gave you will do this perfectly (Y)

Or you can use TweakUI (direct link here) to hide accounts. It's a very handy tool for accessing settings that aren't displayed (Y)

RE: How do you hide a administrator by rav0 on 04-30-2005 at 09:11 AM

RE: How do you hide a administrator by rav0 on 04-30-2005 at 09:16 AM

Try doing this:

quote:
Originally posted by http://www.petri.co.il/hide_a_user_from_the_welcome_screen_in_windows_xp.htm

  1. Open Registry Editor.
  2. In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:
    code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList
  3. Create the following entry:

    Username: REG_DWORD

(Where Username is the username of the user you want to hide from the Welcome Screen).
  4. Assign a value of 0.
  5. Close Registry Editor.
  6. Reboot.
    [/list]
This will prevent the user from showing up on the welcome screen. You will need to press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the logon screen to get the old W2K logon style box to be able to logon to the account you've hidden. Adding a username and setting the value to 1 will cause that user, such as Administrator, to show up on the Welcome screen as well.

wot registry editor
can u guid eme through if u could

  1. Click Start > Run.... Type regedit and hit OK.

  2. Double click the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. The keys are the things in the small left pane that look like folders.

  3. Double click the key SOFTWARE, then Microsoft.

  4. Keep going until you get through HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList. I know you are using Windows XP, but the key is still called Windows NT, because Windows XP is on an NT core, like Windows 2000.

  5. Click Edit > New > DWORD Value. Name the new value the username you want to hide, case-aware. The values look like files in the large right pane.

  6. The value should be 0 by default, but just in case, double click the new value, and make sure that Value data: is set to 0.

  7. Restart. You don't need to save your changes, Registry editing is live.[/list]

nooo cos it hides it from there obviosly

:'(

RE: How do you hide a administrator by rav0 on 05-01-2005 at 07:51 AM

It shouldn't hide it from Control Panel, only the Welcome Screen. If it does though, can you unhide it, set a password, and than hide it again?
